So I have been oozing over the new Nintendo Switch trailers which is set to come out this Friday, March 3. It is a portable device like that of a portable Gameboy but is dock-able to the television and instantaneously allows you to continue your game the second you dock it to the TV.

I guess I am just curious what kind of gaming consoles you use, your kids may use, which is your favorite and if you are at all enamored by the new release. Super Mario Odyssey and the new Zelda game look absolutely unbelievable. Being in the branding and marketing area of work, I think this system looks awesome. I could also be completely blinded by my nostalgia, especially of Mario and the infusion of ridiculous graphics.

When I was a teenager, all my friends had Atari 2600 units. Money was tight in my household and I'd have to go to their house to play video games. As a young adult my best friend had an NES. My first gaming system of my own was the original Gameboy. I purchased it when I was in the Navy. It would stow away quite nicely and the batteries seem to last a fairly long time. I got a SNES when I got out of the Navy and played with it as a newlywed. I haven't bought a gaming system since I got into PCs. My main rig is a lot more powerful than any dedicated gaming system. If I was younger I would be all over the Switch. It's something I dreamt about when I was in the 7th grade.

Im still on the fence for this. We got burned by the WiiU.

Currently own 2 XB1s, 1 PS4, 2 Xbox360s, 1 WiiU, 2 Nintendo DSs, 1 Wii, and I am sure there is something I am forgetting.

That sounds awesome and all of your sentiments I have felt. The only difference for me is that I grew up more with the SNES. It came out in 1990, seven years after the NES did in 1983. The flip to PC happened to me when my parents hid my N64 in their bedroom because I spent too much time on itLaughing. They "couldn't find it" for a year or two and I slowly phased more into athletics and outdoor activities. But overall, I think the Switch is going to create a cultural movement among teens and young adults especially with the way that the system can be used in a home or with friends in a social setting. Kids can play it indoors and outdoors, weather permitting, within their friend circle. I think this device is going to explode. (Side note: Thank you for your service! *Virtual hand shake*)

Right there with you. I don't regret any of that time wasted. A couple weeks ago I un-dusted my PS2 and had a huge rush of nostalgia come back to me. That led to a segway into reminiscing about playing the Nintendo Gamecube and the Mario games. I just started learning about the Nintendo Switch last night and I might just have to up a paycheck to get it. The nostalgia selling point is being used a lot right now in the leisure, entertainment and music market.

I remember going to the family store and playing some space game on Intellivision. I was pretty good at it. I reaaly wanted a Colecovision. Donkey Kong on that thing was spot on. Today, I have a HTPC in the living room and use an arcade controller and emulator to play all those arcade games I used to pump quarters into as a teen. Just as much as I want to... for free!

I had some knockoff football game. I played that thing until I wore out the buttons.

I had one of these. Was great until I figured out that if you positioned the car right down the middle on the line you would never wreck.

I must have been about 8-9 when my older cousin got his Intellivision and I would watch him play Donkey Kong. Words can't describe how badly I wanted to play, but he was a spoiled a-hole and would NEVER let me play. Still makes me mad.

On a related topic, I can't believe how many PS4 games are "1 Player". Sure, you can get online and play with others, but I have two sons who argue constantly about whose turn it is. I tell my wife, "we spent $400 on this damn thing so we could be miserable?" I miss the old days of local 2-player action only.

I had an NES back in the day. I was (and still am) a HUGE Castlevania junkie. I skipped over the SNES though, as I got to high school and was more into sports. I got a PS1 in college, and became a huge fan of Ridge Racer. Then I got a PS2 long after it came out purely so I could play Castlevania SOTN. It was a good investment. I got a Wii and Xbox 360 later, more for my kids than me however. I keep thinking about getting a PS4 so I can play MLB the show, but at this point I think I'll wait for the PS5. I'm not sure about this Switch. Maybe at some point they'll put out something I like, but I'm thinking I'll pass on this for now.

Hand-held mattel were great. I was football 2 champ. atari 2600. Later on my friend had an atari 400 but i loved my commodore 64. Now we have all three xboxes and a PS3. But I play some steam and love MAME. My kids have nintendo 3ds so they can play all their pokemon games.

Talking smack was and is the best part of that game. I always got boat raced by online dudes who played that game 24/7. I quickly learned I would never, ever be an offensive coordinator in my lifetime. I had no patience and always went for it on 4th down—even when it was 4th and 72 on my own 15-yard line*

I will get the Switch at some point; I always break down and do. :( I have every Nintendo console (and a host of others) and despite its massive faults, my kids love the WiiU. So I'll eventually get it for them. :rolleyes:

I had the opportunity to get it last night but settled for Zelda on the WiiU instead. The Switch is a bit expensive, and to set it up for multi-player with the kids at home is going to run $500+ with accessories and a game.

I still have high hopes, but Nintendo dropped the ball in so many ways. It is underpowered. No online component, no pack in game, and no Virtual console at launch!!? Inexcusable for a company with their back catalog. One admittedly unbelievable launch game, but the rest are weak.

They nickel and dimed it to death. $70 for a pro controller, $80 for another set of joy-cons, $30 for a joy con charger, and you'll likely need to buy another power cord for the tablet if you run the dock's behind the TV stand as the dock and tablet use the same one. And I can almost guarantee they won't allow old Virtual Console games purchased to carry forward to the Switch.

All that being said, it still has a ton of promise. Hopefully they can generate some sales momentum and carry it through Christmas with a pack in and a price drop to move a bunch before year end. We'll see how it goes.

I picked one up with Zelda, 1-2 Switch and Fast RMX. My initial opinion, portable functionality is awesome, but joycon are not practical when not attached for portable mode. Very glad I bought the pro controller. Zelda is amazing, Fast RMX is great, 1-2 Switch should never have been published. I'm not impressed with the HD Rumble at all and can't tell the difference from what has been done in the past. Graphics are about the same as Wii U/Xbox 360. Hoping that third parties give this thing a shake, but have a feeling this is going to be another Nintendo and Independent supported console.

Really really excited about the portability aspect, and didn't think I would use it as a portable until I got him last night.
