Only 16 teams this year. Only three P5's: Mississippi, Mississippi State, and NC State. I assume a bunch of teams declined, including Seton Hall and St John's among others.

Interesting how Dickie V was ranting about Belmont getting snubbed by the NCAA. Well they also got snubbed by the NIT.

Feels good to not have to worry or care about that tournament in March. There have been too many seasons where our teams made it and we made a big deal out of it. Nobody gives a crap about this tournament

I wonder if Belmont rejected the bid. Many teams did. Can’t blame them due to Covid bubble etc. Seton Hall and St Johns rejected bids.

I enjoy the NIT still. It means something to the teams and if you have a younger team that returns they sometimes parlay that into success the next year. Plus it’s more games to wager on.

Any tournament is better than no tournament.

The games are much better in the NIT.

Rutgers making it and not making it probably came down to one game.

NIT teams were inconsistent during the year, but the winning teams have to be very consistent.

And that's what makes tournaments interesting.

Who will play their best when it counts?

The whole fun of the NIT is the final four and finals in MSG. North Texas arena, LAME
They should play the whole tournament at MSG like they used to. I remember going there as a kid to see RU play Minnesota in the first round. Minnesota had some guy named Dave Winfield who went on to play pro in another sport

You could say that playing the entire NCAA tournament in Indianapolis is also lame. But these are trying times, and ya do what ya gotta do. I assume that the final four will be back at MSG next year.

The centralization of location was not the major one-time change this year. The major change was cutting the field from 32 to 16, and eliminating the autobids. Also, for reasons unclear to me, they have re-established the third place game.

That was then, this is now. If they played the whole tournament at MSG, the early round games not involving local teams would be played in front of friends and family. The decision to move the early round games to local sites may have saved the NIT from extinction.

when there's no NCAA games on I watch it. I love college basketball.

I am so the same. Never understand the hate. I love more games, That's not a bad field at all.

The question is always who is most motivated?

ESPN should put some real money into the NIT and try to woo teams with NCAA invites. Competition, baby!
