Please remember that the mid-major conference winner auto bids are gone. Hence, many more high major teams. If Rutgers goes 6-3 and then 1-1 in the tourney, I think a bid is very realistic, but given that Ohio State,Iowa and Indiana are currently NIT teams and Minnesota is on the bubble, Rutgers needs to get in the top 3 of that hierarchy. That can be done and beating Ohio State and Minnesota would help big-time. These teams appear to be in if the selection was tomorrow:SMU,NC State,Iowa,Drake,Washingto,Seton Hall,Butler,Nova,Cuse,Texas A@M,Pitt,Xavier,Oregon,Nevada,LSU,Memphis,Ga,James Madison,Richmond,Cornell,Miami and Bradley. What hurts is that the BIG seems locked at 6 NCAA teams,so there are a bunch of NIT BIG possibilities.

Do major conference 19-14 teams typically get left out of the NIT? I’d think we would have to be close to a lock to make it with that record - especially with what would have to be a clean profile. The worst BIG team has a NET of 104 so picking up a Q4 loss isn’t possible.

Admittedly I don’t follow the NIT that closely normally. And 6-3 would be very tough. Could we get in at 5-4 and 18-15?

If … we somehow get to 19-12…20- 13 it would not be out of the question to watch the Rutgers Screw kick in.

For the NIT? Nah. In that scenario we probably wouldn’t even have a loss outside the NET 100. I doubt anyone with that profile was ever omitted and now they wont be taking the mid-major champs so it will be more.

There are going to be very few B1G Ten teams with less than 10 losses.

Does anyone actually care about getting into the NIT?

Serious question. I don’t think any program claims success or momentum unless they win it. The players last year seemed disinterested . And even then the general population doesn’t really care.

I think the bigger point is that we finish the season looking like a capable team.

18-15 probably get us there but there is a big 10 logjam to be concerned about
There’s no limit to how many they can take from one conference right? Usually the major conferences with less NCAA teams have more NIT teams by default.

there is not limit but they are guaranteeing top 2 non ncaa qualifiers from power 6 as rated by NET ...so right off the bat its 12 spots.

One game at a time …if there is anything k have leaned , in the last couple of years is you play the first 26 -28 regular season games to set yourself for the end game …and you can make or break yourself in the last couple of games

We made our season in 2019-2020 and surviving a massive season ending free fall wirh rhe wins against Maryland and ourdue

The entire 2020-2021 season was a constant catching up for bad losses …and we finished the deal off with wins against Indiana and Penn state when they weee must wins

And , sadly, we had things locked up after coming from 18 behind at state college ..only to blow it against. Minnesota and northwestern

The Maring of error between a ncaa bid and not being in the nit is 3-4 games ….and an entire season , can hinge on those last cookie of gsmes

Next three games …one at a time , have a lot of ground to make up…make it up one at a time and let’s see wheee we are on Presidents’ Day heading out to Purdue …

i dont think so and why would you want to see something like that
Irony the guys who want Duke are afraid of Princeton.

I’m guessing a first round game at the RAC that’s economical, would get a good crowd and tv ratings.

Last year was crazy disappointing after the team fell off a cliff but was still on close to 100% of expert brackets

This year would be a big run to make the NIT. I think this year's team would be motivated to win it

definitely....also look at Wisconsin, they reached the finals last year and now are a projected top 4 seed.

for last years team getting the ncaa snub like they did and with Paul/Caleb and no Mag it was certainly a step down, this year is a different story

Take it one at a time. Win the next two at home then you've got OSU, Michigan and MD at home, two of which we've already beaten at their place, and Minn. and Nebraska on the road - all winnable. Win five of them and that gives you 19 wins. One in the B1G Tournament makes it 20 and you're in. Gotta win the next two at home. It's far from impossible now with JWill. NIT is a lock.

With the way the team is playing with Jeremiah Williams, the only team I fear is Purdue. Everybody else is beatable in the B1G tourney. Just need to avoid the first day games.

Wisconsin game will let us know a lot.

We almost beat Purdue without JWill though and have played them tough for yearsss

I'm drinking the kool-aid with this team now especially if one other player steps their game up

As an eternal optimist, I agree. We always play Wisconsin tough and have them at a soldout NJ Mike's.

I don't think about NIT, until we are officially eliminated from NCAA. As long as there a sliver of hope, I only think about NCAA.

Even when out of NCAA, I barely think about NIT. It's just not the same post season.

Should be path to NCAA thread instead.

IIRC we had close to or perhaps even 5,000+ for the game last year. So I would suggest that me, my son, and about 4,998 people do.

I care about it from perspective it would mean we turned our season around and grabbed some momentum going into next year

I hear re: no one cares about NIT but if we were to turn things around and make it to the NIT then we would have accomplished your goal of “looking like a capable team”

NIT has 32 teams. Last year, there were 11 automatic bids for conference champions that did not dance. That's basically the same as 12 bids guaranteed to teams in the power six conferences at the end of the year. Those 12 teams are also guaranteed to host opening round games.

It’s not the same because far more of those 11 autobids from last year won’t be selected now that it’s not a requirement. Perhaps a few exceptions, but in most cases, the NIT would’ve picked the top 2 NET teams in the major conferences for at large anyway.

Another consideration for me. After watching (min) 21 conference games I always enjoy an OOC different opponent end season to see how we fair.
I wish there were less conf. games and if I were in charge with 18 teams I'd reduce 3 and go with you play every other team 1 time. (IF that is possible). Add more OOC games in there even if mid-Season (Springfield Break :) again IF possible. (whole conference plays the same 1 week non-conf.)

yeah no need to reply. I know, aint gonna happen lol.
