my favorite is bring your own shovel.View attachment 1042937
Pay these people please. Shoveling snow is not an easy task.
Where should this dome be built? How many seats? And who should pay for the dome's construction?Hard to believe Illinois doesn't have a dome ANYWHERE for these kids to use. Snow isn't new... maybe playoff's for Illinois colleges are? Not sure. I hope they get this squared away.
Shovel for the potato salad or snow?Load up on Fried potato salad at Fatty's and bring your shovel.
Potato salad of course. The Catholic schools are going to pray for the snow melt. We're all good.Shovel for the potato salad or snow?
All fantastic points. Just sharing my shock that there isn't a single option.Where should this dome be built? How many seats? And who should pay for the dome's construction?
Yeah, I guess they should have waited until after the holiday weekend to determine their staffing needs and logistics.MC and BR have theirs playable.
God Bless the IHSA.
These games should have been moved to facilities that are interested in having the games played.
Who said they raced to volunteer? The IHSA was scrambling and NIU could have volunteered as a courtesy for lack of any other option. Why is everyone assuming the logistics of all this is so easy?Maybe NIU shouldn't have raced to volunteer to host these games if they don't have a facilities staff capable of removing the snow to prepare the stadium for fans.
I know it's a professional team, but this happens in Buffalo often. They pay $20/hour, provide food and drink and you don't have to bring your own shovel.
I don't see ISU asking for help.
Plus the IHSA likely didn't have a contingency because they didn't cancel the Saturday games, ISU closed the campus.Once the IHSA had to scramble this was never going to be easy, as 4Afan is saying.
I think the contingency plan was to hope the storm wasn't that bad. We had eyes on this a week and a half before the weekend. I have to assume they were in communication with ISU on if/when they would close the campus. They don't just close it on a whim....All in all there wasn't really a good plan to be had and they hoped they could get it in is my assumption.Plus the IHSA likely didn't have a contingency because they didn't cancel the Saturday games, ISU closed the campus.
Agree, but how many times have we seen calls for "the storm of the century" only to get a dusting or maybe an inch or two. The IHSA has been hosting the state finals for 51 years without issue so it's no surprise to me there wasn't another plan in place.I think the contingency plan was to hope the storm wasn't that bad. When we were at ISU it seemed like there was a TON of uncertainty. First, talk of cancelled Saturdays games and post poning. Then there was talk of a change of venue saturday to a campus that would allow it. Ultimately what they decided is what we got.Agree, but how many times have we seen calls for "the storm of the century" only to get a dusting or maybe an inch or two. For sure, there wasn't a good contingency to have in place. And lets be honest 1" of snow coming down an hour and driving on 55/57 ect is not something I want to do.Agree, but how many times have we seen calls for "the storm of the century" only to get a dusting or maybe an inch or two. They will forfeit having a home playoff game. So, what happens next year when ISU has a home first round playoff game that will directly conflict with the State Championship?
Last year they gave up their home playoff game in order to host the state finals. So, what happens next year when ISU has a home first round playoff game that will directly conflict with the State Championship?
$6 billion value buffalo bills hire fans to clear snow from the stadium, and probably aren't paid that much. 10 years ago the whole board would have showed up with a truck full of busch nasties and had it done in a few hours no problem! now just a bunch of negative nancy's here seeking the warmth of the bars on western aveFeels like the negativity on this board is at an all time high. Cmon, fellas, lets just enough the games.
To some people, no matter what happens, the IHSA can't be right.
dont talk about me that way$6 billion value buffalo bills hire fans to clear snow from the stadium, and probably aren't paid that much. 10 years ago the whole board would have showed up with a truck full of busch nasties and had it done in a few hours no problem! now just a bunch of negative nancy's here seeking the warmth of the bars on western ave
This happened to Oswego in 2019 before the first playoff game. We got a snowstorm right before Halloween and they didn't turn the sprinkling system off. Volunteers were called upon to shovel the bleachers and the field itself.$6 billion value buffalo bills hire fans to clear snow from the stadium, and probably aren't paid that much. 10 years ago the whole board would have showed up with a truck full of busch nasties and had it done in a few hours no problem! now just a bunch of negative nancy's here seeking the warmth of the bars on western ave
Ive had this discussion more than a few times. Go look at first round attendance at the FCS playoff games.....with the exception of the usual suspects (NDSU and a few others) finally these host sites are a $$ loss for hosting. ISU isn't missing out on too much and ask them how worth it it was a decade or so ago. One of the biggest mistakes they have made as a school and as a football program...letting the games get away. Also FYI I'm not expecting too much attendance wise the next few days. So, what happens next year when ISU has a home first round playoff game that will directly conflict with the State Championship?
Bingo!! I don't think any of the games got 4000.Ive had this discussion more than a few times. I am assuming they are not the only ones. I have to assume SF and PC did as well aslong with Fenwick, Maybe 7/8a teams did not.EastSide traveled the day before, wasting a trip.
What should have been the contingency? It snowed from central IL to northern IL. I guess they could have had the current plan as a contingency but would that really make you or anyone happy? So let me get this straight. All the schools in the state sends checks every year to an organization that conveniently doesn't have the power to rule on a team getting a 5 downs win. Doesn't have contingency plans in place for bad weather at its events(in Illinois), and also can't cut a check to get a venue ready to host it's event? Somebody make this make sense.
Honestly I think if they had a plan and everyone knew this Friday people would have been happy. What should have been the contingency? It snowed from central IL to northern IL. I guess they could have had the current plan as a contingency but would that really make you or anyone happy?
They don't have the ability to rule on a team getting 5 downs due to an existing by law. By law could be changed, but then you open the can of worms where people would be protesting every outcome with a questionable call. Name a league professional or otherwise who changes outcomes after the fact.So let me get this straight.
