What NIU needs help with is getting their players to stay. What is going on there???

Starting QB for the second year in a row is leaving. Both kids were local kids too.

First, Holst wasn't very productive and the offense doesn't pass much at all, which leads to receivers and QBs transferring out.

Second, they do not have much NIL money to keep players from moving on to bigger things. Last season they lost 20 players to the portal

Hampton may have been forced out. He would have been much better than what they had this season.

Coach seems to not care if players leave. Hammock has said he knows where he's coaching at takes pride when his players go on to bigger schools.

So they moved to a extremely awkward geographic conference fit without a NIL plan to be competetive? Jeez

NIU is taking a big go big or go broke play moving to the MWC. Having all their other sports take a step down and go to the Horizon (away from the MAC) will keep those sports in a spot. Competition in football will be tough and lots of travel for their fans to get out to Wyoming and New Mexico

They will have more NIL money available with this move and more TV revenue money as well.

Right now, the most NIU offers for their top slot NIL is about $100K. They had a DT leave for Texas Tech after 2024 for $850K.

Fans will pick and choose which games they want to travel to. No more MACtion will likely help with travel as well. In terms of competition, I'd put the MAC against MWC head to head right now.

I keep reading the Horizon League is a huge step down from the MAC... they're leaving a one-bid league for a more geographically close one-bid league, so what's the problem?

Football-wise, yes, lots of long road trips but fans might plan a vacation around Vegas or Hawaii. Probably more likely than Buffalo, anyway.

A plan. Any plan. Like literally any plan.
Fair but the plan most likely would have been the same.
I think the plan was to hope it wasn't that bad because they knew the other options were not ideal.
Anyways, I don't care anymore, there are games this afternoon/tonight to worry about.

Everyone has a plan until they get hit in the face.

I don't see any plan that would have allowed the games to be played on Saturday, the entire state got hammered with the storm.

No one attended a rivalry college game between U of I and NW Saturday night and they were confined to sitting on only one side of the stadium.

I looked at the original post that got this thread started. I saw "Volunteers Needed" and that let me out. If I am going to remove snow, I am going to get paid. The only snow I shovel for free is mine, my mother-in-law, a few neighbors or my kids' driveways and sidewalks...when I am needed. :)😅

Maybe NIU shouldn't have raced to volunteer to host these games if they don't have a facilities staff capable of removing the snow to prepare the stadium for fans.

I know it's a professional team, but this happens in Buffalo often. They pay $20/hour, provide food and drink and you don't have to bring your own shovel.

I don't see ISU asking for help.
May be true in Buffalo. And yet when a snowstorm hit they moved two games to Ford Field...a dome in Detroit where the Lions play. Once in 2014 against the Jets and another last season against the Browns. But, when it comes to snow, there is Buffalo snow... and there is Illinois snow and it isn't "equal opportunity" stuff.

With all that has been said I am wondering how many of us here will attend the games tomorrow now that the roads will be clear? I mean besides EdgyTim.

ISU actually did ask for Volunteers.

Three of the four directional schools in Illinois are FBS and northern campus and facilities are in much better shape than the other two.
I wouldn't say NIU's campus is in better shape than SIU. SIU has done some good things over the past half decade to the campus and have things in the works currently. While the football facilities are not DI they are good.

SIU isnt one of the other two schools.
