No additional damage from Lowe injury

Awesome.

I would now make him backup PG. Start using Aberdeen or JJ, and ease Lowe back in. This not only keeps him healthy, but it starts the process of finding our next PG, should we need it. The goal would be to go into the tournament with the option of playing Lowe or keeping with Aberdeen.

And these guys now get paid, so it really shouldnt hurt any feelings if one is on the 2nd unit.

To expand on my previous post: i feel like we are gonna do the exact opposite. Were gonna play him as soon as he can go, we wont get a backup PG primed, and Lowe will inevitably go down again in like February and we will be caught with our pants down.

I want to be wrong, but I worry about the overall decision making of our entire athletics department.

Find a backup PG pecking order behind Aberdeen with Lowe as a role player at best. Personally, I think he's done for the season, and I'd rather us not wonder about him game-to-game.

Time to pivot now while we can. If he's a glass cannon and we continue to lean on him, Lowe could sink us if we become too dependent on him.

It amazes me that an analytics genius like Pope would not have a true backup PG nor hardly any other guard who has handles.

It amazes me that even a dumb *** coach wouldn’t have a true backup PG nor hardly anyone who has handles.
Well, given we had Lowe, Aberdeen, JJ, Chandler, and Oweh already in the fold, maybe there was no one good enough to compete at UK's level who was willing to come here.

I personally think Pope is on the sauce. There has been whispers of folks seeing Pope with a Big Gulp cup of Coke around town.🫤

JJ is gonna play more. You can tell he has talent, a left-handed Dillingham imo, but I'm not sure about being a point guard, he likes to shoot.
He’s got to play like Aberdeen & get to the paint, can’t sit out there launching 3s cause it does not look like that’s the strong part of his game. If JJ will attack the paint and glass when he can, it will further his game and his pt.

That's a little more encouraging than what was being reported earlier, I guess. I was reading last night that some people are doing stem cell therapy for a shoulder dislocation in order to avoid surgery. IDK if that's one of the options being discussed, but from what I read it's about an 8 week process. Maybe try that + rest and possibly work him back in for SEC play 🤷🏻‍♂️.

Regardless, we need to have a definitive decision and definitive plan in place now. It can't be a back and forth, will he play or will he not rollercoaster all season. This is Jasper's chance to step up and prove himself.

Yes, he needs to focus on defense, getting to the rim and distributing the ball. His shots will come and he'll get his minutes, too.

At this point I assume they are assessing what’s best for him. Further injury can worsen the situation. His health and long term result must take precedence.

if we make the assumption he can return, I like the idea of putting him into a backup role. Fewer minutes translated to lower likelihood of reinjury. More time to strengthen our depth.

Tough situation. Congrats to the Pope LOD.

Yeah, once it starts getting dislocated, it will happen repeatedly until surgery can tighten up the ligaments. Doesn't help that the kid is so slight in build and other teams will try to bully ball him.

I agree. Anyone wishing injury aren’t fans of the same team as me. And yes we do need the offense and playmaking that Lowe can provide. If MRI showed no additional damage, let’s play the kid as backup and keep it light with him in practice going forward.

We recruited one. He plays for Nova.

I disagree with this take that Pope failed by not getting a backup PG.

Aberdeen handled the ball at Florida when Clayton was on the bench.

We had recruited Acaden Lewis. He committed. He got scared off by the competition. There aren't quality point guards that wanted to come here and accept the minutes we had.

We couldn't keep a guy that quality of Travis Perry because of the competition. It's not like there are big time PG's that were waiting for Pope to call.
Ultimately, Aberdeen is better than any other backup PG we were going to get.

Uk has the money to pay someone. Money tends to make hurt feelings go away fast....
Not enough for a quality player though. Sure you could pay a decent chunk for a 3rd PG but then that money limits what you have to spend on your other players. No one in the country has 3 starting caliber pure PG's

We can fault him for not planning for Lowe to get injured, but what bigtime pg was going to come here to sit behind Lowe?

When we look at it, Pope had Aberdeen and Johnson rotating as backups and tbh, that's better than what most teams have.

Look at Purdue, they have very little behind Braden Smith. Who does Houston have as a backup?

We were worried all summer about how Pope was going to find playing time for everyone, well, it always works itself out and it just did.

Give JJ a chance, he could be damn good if he focuses his game on assists, rather than scoring. It’s really not that far fetched.

But, I do wish MP found a way to land a star talent in the backcourt over the summer.
