Aberdeen was brought in to be the backup PG when we lost Lewis. It’s just simply another tale of “we don’t have thing so mad”. In reality, there are only 15 roster spots and we can’t satisfy every unfortunate possibility with a reasonable roster addition. Going into the year, we had Lowe as pg, Aberdeen as backup pg, Chandler as a depth pg, Johnson as a depth pg. It seems that Chandler and Johnson haven’t worked out so far as pg, even though Chandler worked on his handle all off-season. It wasn’t like Pope decided we don’t need point guards. We can’t plan for injuries to pile up at every position—good players don’t want to commit to a school to be PG3 or get limited minutes outside of catastrophic injury problems. We can fault him for not planning for Lowe to get injured, but what bigtime pg was going to come here to sit behind Lowe?
When we look at it, Pope had Aberdeen and Johnson rotating as backups and tbh, that's better than what most teams have.
Look at Purdue, they have very little behind Braden Smith. Who does Houston have as a backup?
We were worried all summer about how Pope was going to find playing time for everyone, well, it always works itself out and it just did.
Give JJ a chance, he could be damn good if he focuses his game on assists, rather than scoring. It’s really not that far fetched.
But, I do wish MP found a way to land a star talent in the backcourt over the summer.
