I like the enthusiasm and the optimistic approach. There seems to be a lot of excitement on this board as you read through threads talking about the possibilities this season. However, I've gotten myself excited about the upcoming season so many times in the past few years that I'm trying hard to temper my excitement heading into this season. Yes, I'm hopeful but I'm forcing myself to wait to see how things look on the field to see if there truly is a new attitude and great improvement. Hopefully, we do going bowling this year and, along with the new practice facility, it helps in bringing UK's recruiting up yet another level. But, I'm playing the wait and see role this season.

If he's excited so am I. If he is excited then he must know we are going to be really good. Those predicting 7 wins are pretty safe and those saying 8 wins may be right

The enthusiasm last year was quiet confidence by the staff. I think they thought the schedule looked good to shock people... would be correct.

The confidence I'm hearing this year revolves around work ethic and depth of talent... not just winnable games... if that makes sense.

We'llsee soon enough now.

I don't know if I had the same take.

- I heard how good of a year Flannigan and Forrest were going to have at LBer...Flannigan was a pure bust for 2years and Forrest was his usual self...very good in passing game and very weak at LOS in running game (and he went to combine and put up a bench press that a high school kid would get).

- I heard Towles command of the offense was going to be much better. Initially Towles was solid but as the year wore on...he really unravelled.

- Dorian Baker was getting massize hype...he had two really good games (EKU was his best game) and was a disaster down the stretch.

The one thing that I have to admit...i'd be shocked if Hinshaw/Gran aren't at least a solid upgrade over Dawson and that should really help out Stoops if we have better ownership on that side of ball and allow him to get the D better. Plus our skills positions are way more talented than years past as well as experienced...I'm hoping they can come of age a bit and carry us while we still work to improve in the trenches.

i put nearly 100% of the offensive woes on Dawson. True disaster but I believe those things get corrected this year with a more veteran, and proven offensive staff. Ready to get this season started!

Here is what Stoops said on or about July 31, 2015.

On if he feels more positive feelings this season: “Certainly. Any time you put the amount of work in that we put in, then you expect to be more confident. You expect that to be more confident. You expect it to be more positive because you know you’re better. I always use the adage about being sharper. We’re sharper. We have sharper tools. Guys, the players, have worked hard. Our coaches have worked hard. You’re going into Year Three, we should be better; we expect to be better.

Seriously does anybody Stoops to say we will be worse this year?
Exactly. Both the OP's link and 2015 quote are typical pre-season coach speak statements of coaches trying to rebuild a losing program.

Peace

I'm trying to be optimistic, but have to admit feeling a little beaten down by the poor performances of recent seasons. We can be better and still have the same record.

He more or less has to say this after all the money the school has committed to facilities and assistants' compensation. I mean, what else could he say?
No he doesn't.... Simply not true... Stoops hasn't been this positive since he's been here, including last year, when almost all of our stadium was finished... Stoops isn't stupid enough to say something like that...

This is the year that I've had marked for awhile that we should show a lot of improvement. If we don't, Stoops will be on a short leash.

If you are not excited at this time of year, I don't know what to say. Everyone is 0-0, you can only hope there are suprises among the returners, the redshirts and freshmen help and it is a great season...Now saying that, after the first game it may be a s&^t show and you hit reality fast, but right now I am excited

Then what should he say when asked? If he said nothing wouldn't you and/or others be complaining about that?
He said what he had to say and I'm not saying it's not true but I've heard that song and dance to many times before so I'll believe it when I see it.

Not from Stoops you haven't and especially the way he's currently exuding confidence.

Point taken, but I have heard it for years from just about everyone else, so it makes it hard to believe, even thought I want to.
