Kansas looked pretty determined and played a good game. Too much fire power tonight.

Kansas brought their A game. We brought our pass/fail game. It just seemed like we didn't play good team ball.
The Phog is a very tough venue, but I actually think the refs called a good game tonight. We just got out-hustled and out coached

Any time the shots don't fall...............guess what? You look bad. Any time the shots fall.........guess what? You probably gonna look good and come out with the win. Tonight, even the layups didn't fall.
Usually when you don't rebound or shoot well, the game doesn't end well.
That's like saying that if we could have won a football game if just decided to tackle and score touchdowns.
Trust me, it's OK to critique a bad game. I guarantee you Huggs is as well.
Kansas D that good or another level of effort available to WV? My thoughts watching the game.
I think WV did not hit their top tier of effort as a whole. Not a bad effort, but not what was necessary to beat a very focused and motivated Kansas team on their home court.
Shooting was obviously an issue, but this is the case much more often than not. WV typically overcomes that with their top tier effort by all. Last night they did not.

Big thing I noticed was how Kansas negated our press and avoided turnovers this time. We never were and never will be a good shooting team, so our inability to generate points off turnovers haunted us. And for their half court offense, how they were able to move 4 guys to the perimeter, leaving one-on-one in the paint for an easy basket was almost embarrassing.
1) Our half court defense is not good. That won't fix by March.
2) Holton really is the most important part of our press. I didn't really appreciate that until he was gone. The version we ran without him worked well against Baylor and Iowa State, but we need the full octane version of our press to rattle Kansas.
WV has been going more towards half court sets for a while. The press is being handled more effectively is one reason. Still pressing some, but not nearly as much as in the first half of the season. The Big 12 Teams have seen it 3 times now and are making good adjustments.

The Kansas strategy on the throw-in seemed to be throwing the ball to their guy almost at the half line. I was hoping WVU would see that and intercept those passes, which were in the air a LONG time. Never happened. It's tough to beat an outstanding team with a fantastic record on their home floor. A split with Kansas is something other Big 12 teams would brag about.
Just don't let TCU upset you.
Because Texas and Oklahoma are right behind.
An argument can be made that balf court D is better than the press overall. Timely shifts between the two (And zone) being most effective. Hence, the decrease in time spent on press. Half court D has improved, but agree it is not where it needs to be consistently.
This team has to play at top tier effort for any phase to be good enough to win against the top teams. Huggs has stated as much on several occasions.

If Holton was guarding inbounder, those long passes don't happen much.
We lost by 10 in a game Kansas NEEDED at home. Kansas routinely destroys teams by 30 in that gym, we hung pretty tough with a roster that was not at full strength.
Would love to win the Big XII but lets keep it in perspective, conference success is secondary to NCAA tournament success. Lets just hope we have Holton back soon, the fact that this has dragged into a 4 game suspension with no idea if there will be an immediate resolution coming this week is alarming.

That's where the "outcoached" part comes in. At what point do you have someone essentially play free safety and wait for that pass?
This was a sub-par effort by all involved.
My take on the game from the other side.
WVU played pretty good for the most part in that atmosphere. I don't remember seeing any panic from your players at all. When Kansas got up by 13 your guys always responded and made solid plays.
The final score not really that bad, when you consider the place and Kansas making most of their free throws last night.
Yes, I know WVU is also missing a key player too, so a 10 point loss in Allen,not bad considering.
The biggest surprise of the night from KU side. The two guys that a certain WVU poster calls scrub players.
Landen Lucas had 16 Rbs and 9 points in the game.
That shocked everyone including all the Kansas fans. He had four blocks in the game too. Wow that matched his whole season total in one game.
The guy all other fans make fun off old man Perry Ellis 21 points in the game not too bad for the old guy.

For some anything other than undefeated is a failure. We played okay, I do not believe we played poorly and it was just an "off night". What happened last night is how the conclusion of a 2 game home and home between these two teams should have gone. 1 - 1 split, well see you for the rubber match, should be a good one.
