It's the right call, but, selfishly, I'm disappointed I won't be able to attend the first NU home NCAA Tournament games in 27 years next week.

I am glad to hear this. It will be weird and it won't be the same for the players as they clearly feed off the fan energy, but we are all making sacrifices to help flatten the curve for viral spread. We'll get through it.

Typical NU good fortune. Chance to host for 1st time in years. . and virus keeps fans away

The most Northwestern thing possible would have been for this to have happened three years ago - so we dodged that one.

Don'tcha think it could have the effect of neutralizing officiating...not to mention home court/regional advantage

Collins wouldn't have had to run out onto the court to get the official's attention in an empty arena.

[Sets aside all health-related things for a second]

Yes, the effect on the games themselves - and wagering - will be interesting.

And we thought playing in Allstate Arena was spooky. Maybe they could pipe in some canned fan noise.

They should let each team have one fan in. Each would sit on opposite sides of the court so they can't cough on each other.

Idea for Northwestern band at the Big Ten tourney do the cheer "Hey (opponent), coronavirus cough (cough) coronovirus cough (cough)...." and watch the opposing team and fans scatter.

Some what on that subject, why are they allowing fans at the Conference Tournament?

I mean, can't they give fans the option to sign a waiver saying:
"Yes, I understand there is a risk of catching COVID-19 wherever a crowd gathers, but I choose to take the risk and attend this event."

Such people are not assuming a risk only for themselves, but for those with whom they subsequently come into contact.

Btw Fred Hoiberg was obviously ill and left the court during Nebraska's game tonight. Was taken to the hospital. No idea what he has, but the odds are strongly against him being able to be tested for COVID-19 if that is what is suspected.

He has a history of heart surgeries due to a heart condition. Hopefully it’s not COVID-19 as he would be in the “comprised health” category of those most susceptible to dying of the disease, along with the elderly.

If it is due to the coronavirus, I imagine the rest of the BTT will be cancelled. Perhaps March Madness will be suspended similar to the NBA?
