for the guy that said compare mike leach record to les miles ok pay lets compare where they have been coaching the last 10 years. Its a little bit easier to win games buddy at LSU where you are getting a top 10 recruiting class every year than to win games at schools like UK that have been at the bottom of their conference throughout history. thats like saying hell compare Cals record to bo ryan the wisconsin guy. bo ryan was a damn good coach and won with a bunch of stiffs with the exception of a few people and you can't compare him as a coach to cal hell its way easier to win at UK in basketball than wisconsin. And on top of thatthe gap between uk and wisconsin in basketball is no where near the gap between wash state and LSU football. And for all you people that say you can't win in the sec with a "gimmicky" system before ole hal got in trouble he was getting ready to get it turned around. When you are playing with less talent 7-9 out of your 12 games u have to do something different to win 8 or 9 games. Rich brooks did ok here but he did nothing great. he benefited from being here for the kraigthorp years at louisville when they couldn't beat anybody and he didn't lose to the cupcakes and he beat vandy every year and he had 6 or 8 more decent wins in the 6 or 7 years he was here. He never was above .500 in the sec his best year was 4-4 and only did that once. i don't consider going 4-4 in you conference once in 6 or 7 years a great success. I would consider a coach to have done a very good job here that could consistantly win 7 games and about every 3 years win 8 or 9. mike leach did it twice with worse facilities and not as much talent as us so why couldn't he do it here? And i don't want to hear **** about the strength of schedule go back and look at his 10 and 11 win seasons at texas tech and they were much tougher schedules than we have had the past two years. the sec east is the worst its been in 40 years and we still can't win 3 or 4 conference games. All you people that don't want mike leach just don't want him because he's not the politically correct choice and he drops the F bomb all the time. I got news for you guys 90% of coaches drop the F bomb all the time including our beloved bball coach. Cal wasn't the politically correct hire either blueberry balls barnhart was forced to hire him and look how thats worked out ? pretty damn good in my opinion. You all have a nice day but this football program will never change with blueberry balls as the AD.

This post should be pinned at the top of this board and copies should be taped up all over Mitch's office. Mike Leach IS the answer for UK football. He is a coach that can not only turn it around, but would be here for 10+ seasons and will not only be given enough time to succeed, but will also respect the program and the fans and STAY, even if he's successful (which he would be). He is also a link to one of the most fun times to be a UK football fan (the late 90's) and was instrumental in defeating Alabama and getting us to the Outback bowl. It's no secret that our football team got worse when he left for OU.
The Eastern Washington team that beat wsu is a top notch fcs school. They are 4-1. Only loss was at North Dakota St. by 6. Same ndakota st who beat Iowa. Not that huge of an upset. Once again leach has regrouped his team for conference play. Leach will be playing in a bowl game again this year while we can only hope to. He can beat more talent with less. Been doing it his whole career! That's the kind of coach we gotta have here. With the facility upgrades and his system we would get some good qbs in here. The future is bright with the oline and running game. All we need is a qb and a good offensive mind to put points up.

just beat oregon now have 3-1 stanford team down 14-3 at the half . What does this guy have to do to make you people he is the man for this job????? Besides hiring Art Briles which obviously isn't going to happen this is the only guy out there that can get this football program turned around. They are 2-2 and beating Oregon this year isn't that impressive considering they lost to Washington tonight 70-21.

Leach is a quality coach, but I'm not understanding your need to make a case, or the apparent emotional attachment, right now.
Fun team to watch. Already scored three touchdowns early in the 3rd against one of the better defenses in the nation. Ive noticed the announcers keep talking about how Leach is putting them in mismatches. He is one of the coaches that could win here. Too bad Mitch doesn't think so.
He could probably make Barker look like Tim Couch (numbers wise). He runs a system where average quarterbacks can look very good and above average ones look great. He can do more with less about as good as any coach in the country. I would take him in a heartbeat if I had the choice. Just like I would have taken Petrino instead of Stoops.
Unfortunately we have an AD that expects coaches to be saints without any baggage. We s'posed to be SEC and all the other schools care about is winning. Even if the coach doesn't have a perfect background. We'd rather have the "good guy" with no experience running a program over a proven winner with a little baggage. That is why we likely will never succeed in football in the SEC.

he wouldn't be able to recruit here. he's feasted on the talent hotbeds of west texas and east washington

Leach can be hot and cold at times. It happens when your not working with elite talent.
Don't forget they lost to Portland state and then won 9 games last year including wins over Oregon, UCLA Arizona and Miami.
Leach has been the no.1 man for the job here since he left for the Oklahoma OC job (which lead to the HC job at TTU)

It's INFURIATING to know that we have had several chances to hire the guy and passed on him.

I think the reason he didn't hire him was because after Billy Gillispie treated his players, Barnhart didn't want to risk another.
Mike Leach is a much better coach than Mark Stoops. I'm pretty sure only an idiot would debate otherwise.
That said, Leach is probably never coming to UK so not sure what the point is of bringing him up so much. Great win over an overrated Stanford team, but this is the kind of game he had to have to make up for that bad Eastern Washington loss. He may get his team to a bowl game again.

You aren't going to hear anything from those clueless people. They keep falsely viewing their sorry selves as righteous and we keep watching coaches we could have had succeed at other places.
Against the preseason favorite of a power 5 conference. We can't even win at home against an average at best C-USA team.

They could. That will be a tough one for me though because an undefeated Washington guarantees that U of L is out of the playoff.
