As I said in an earlier post, I doubt very seriously the OC at SC ends up being any of the "legitimate" names that have been mentioned..... Briles, Beck, John David Becker, etc.

History would be on your side on that one. But the TCU boards made an insider announcement about Briles on Friday, then immediately started another thread titled "new OC candidates", or something similar.

I would be shocked if it wasn't Briles.

Here is where I disagree a little. My thought is that it repeatedly takes Beamer a long time to make a hire because he gets turned down a lot. So I do think it is hurting us because I believe he is getting turned down. Now I know many would say he can't control that. And it may be true that it isn't squarely on him. But it falls under the umbrella of the University in general. They aren't doing what they need to do to get a legitimate hire. Again, just speculation but I think that is what is going on. As I said in an earlier post, I doubt very seriously the OC at SC ends up being any of the "legitimate" names that have been mentioned..... Briles, Beck, John David Becker, etc.

There is no way that Dowell Loggains was Shane's first choice. My guess is he was way down the list. I believe that is what will happen this time too.
I have made no secret of my dislike of the Beamer hire in the first place. I believe he is over his head. As I said before: word gets around the coaching circles. We (maybe not you? but certainly others here) are not the only ones who think he is over his head. I suspect that some of the names mentioned decided they did not want to work under him. I certainly understand that. If he has mediocre results next season, he is gone, imho. BTW, if it's Briles, I'm not certain he is a good choice.

He needs to produce a better run game than he has at TCU this season. Surely you don't think 93rd rushing offense in the 134 team FBS level is acceptable? That is poor. When you can't run the ball, you hurt your defense, TCU is a mediocre 70th in defense. We all want a better offense. We need a better offense. We (Beamer) is practically guaranteeing we will make the playoffs next year. Look at the playoff participants. 8 of the 12 are in the Top 20 in defense. Bear Bryant said that offense sells tickets but defense wins national championships. The Bear won 6 national championships. Former Defensive Coordinator Nick Saban won 6 national championships as a Head Coach. Former Defensive Coordinator Kirby Smart won 2 national championships as a Head Coach. TCU fans are disenchanted with Briles and want him out. I'm sensing it's because his offense is poor at rushing the ball. I will be happy to have Briles. He will certainly be a better OC than we have had here before. A midget should be able to clear that bar on one jump (no offense meant to midgets). But, we Carolina fans need to think BIG. The offense MUST develop a running game next season. I love passing the ball. As a former high school defensive back I was thrilled to see the opposing team pass the ball. As a fan, I LOVE the passing game. Can Briles develop a running game to go with the passing game? I think he can. I certainly hope so. A balanced offense is what is best. That's why I was excited about the possibility that Beamer would hire the East Carolina OC. But I learned a long, long time ago when buying stocks, if it sounds to good to be true, it "ain't" true. That's what happened with the East Carolina OC.

From what I've read on their boards, the lack of running game annoyed the fans when they got to the red zone, and struggled there.

To be honest, if he moves the ball up and down the field between the 20', I'd take that over what we've had.

Shurburtt mentioned today that the first year he's been with a program the offense typically vastly improves. Granted it won't take much next year to improve on this year's offensive numbers.

Pretty much cycled thru every cliche in the book there chief; other than that I can’t make enough out of that rant to formulate a response, so I’ll just say ‘ok.’

I would take that too over what we have had before. Even though I'm a begger, I still like to be choosey (wanting a balanced offense). We will have what we have and go from there.

When is the last time we have had even a decent offense? We have had 6 Offensive Coordinators in 10 years. And that does not include Furrey.

It's so funny that you say this. I have thought the exact same thing. When Spurrier was here and we had some of our best defenses, we would play Ruffin McNeill's ECU teams. SC would end up winning the game, but ECU would have 400 yards of offense and move the ball between the 20s. This was during the Clowney years. They did it based off a quick passing attack where the defense didn't have time to get a sack. I would take that all day long over what we have been putting out their on offense.

Just like you mentioned, ECU would stall when they would get inside the 20s. I get it. But at the point, I would much rather see that than what SC has been doing which is going 3 and out from their own 20 yard line over and over.

Missouri is similar except that they can score inside the 20. But same style. You aren't going to get a lot of sacks on an Eli coached team.

Spurrier also had red zone sputter tendencies; fans complained bitterly about it. Why are you running the ball?!? We got all the way down here passing!

I think the encouraging thing is that, based on the leaked information (if assumed to be true), Beamer is shooting for a legit OC hire.

At this point, there's no real rush. I could see trying to have one in place by the early signing period, but it doesn't appear to have hurt us there. Now we just want to have someone locked up before the portal opens.

If he's taking his time to make sure he gets a qualified OC, I'm fine with it. If we end up with some random NFL journeyman, that will not be so good.
If that was the case then yes. But it’s more likely that he can’t find anyone.

Wes, JC, Chris and others have said it is "likely" to be Briles and that it is just the process. Whatever. Here is what is going to happen. It is going to end up being a name that none of them have discussed. It is going to be a completely underwhelming name. Then, they are going to try and sell everyone on how it is a good choice. Just like Beamer will do.
100% on this paragraph. Not interested at all in the what’s likely, maybe, probably going to happen. It almost always, in any coaching search here reads as wishful thinking. Would be nice if Beamer proved me wrong but got no expectation the result will make sense.
