Yep half empty stadiums don't effect game. From this point forward all games will be played at Nutter. Fans...who needs em.

I wish there was a better turnout too. I thought the crowd was disappointing. I haven't been able to go all year, but I made it a point to show up to say goodbye to the seniors. I wish more had done the same.

That being said.....the quality of the opponent was such that it shouldn't have mattered how many were in the stands.

Look, I understand quality of opponent, weather(kind of weak excuse really, games everywhere yesterday were played in cold and eeeeek SNOOOOWWWWW), but football schools with fans that have passion for football don't have half empty stadiums, ever. Especially on Senior Day, with chance to go to bowl game for first time in years, on week before game against biggest rival. It effects 18-23 year olds emotion and energy, and it certainly effects high school recruits thinking about UK. Last nights attendance gives opposition ammo in recruiting, that UK doesn't care about football.

When you run out of tunnel to half empty stadium on Senior Day for chance to play in 1st bowl game in years it's deflating to team.
Our flat 1st-half performance wasn't a surprise. I disagree with blaming our fans. At the end of the day, we live in a free society. If people want to come to the game, they can buy a ticket. If they would rather stay home in front of a TV on a cold day, or if they would rather DVR the game and watch later, that's fine too. This is supply and demand. UK football tickets are among the cheapest in the SEC. Mark Stoops got our program to the bowl threshold this year, and (as I have explained on many threads) should return a much better team in 2017 with 19 starters, both kickers, and a long list of redshirt freshmen coming back. Some obviously cannot stomach the gradual, grinding pace of improvement, so those people should find another activity and give the rest of us a break. In the long run, people will buy UK football tickets as long as the product keeps improving. I believe it will. As for the flat 1st half, we were playing a team that hasn't won a game in 3 years. Stoops started our 3rd string quarterback and our 3rd string running back. It was obvious that our team did not come out of the locker room with energy and enthusiasm. That means it was not a great week of preparation. But at the end of the day, we won the game by 36 points and we will get a bowl invitation. Despite losing its starting quarterback and having to break in a new front 7, our team is a little better than last year. The bowl will give us 15 extra December practices, great for a young team. Next year will be better than this year. The thing to watch now is our 2017 recruiting class, which is critical to continuing the program's rise.

^Yeah it's fine for fans to stay home, America and all that.

But it leads to lack of energy and enthusiasm from players who feed off of crowd. And it leads to rival recruiters hammering home the point that football is second at UK.

When a bowl game is on the line after a loooonnnng drought, it shouldn't matter who is in the stands or on the other sideline. Home Team had plenty to fire them up.....but they weren't fired up. In the end.....just glad we won. On to UL....let's get seven! GBB!

Well, just maybe the fan's are flat and down after the last two games too. A win over GA would have went a long way into getting more at the game. They were pumped and ready for that one. Bad endings give bad results.

Blaming fans is lame excuse. Play defense and win games against prime time teams and the fans will show up. Give up over 40 points most seasons to Florida and Tennessee and you will be lucky to have 15,000 fans in the stands. Heck you will be lucky to have their parents in the stands.

Agree, fans or no fans, the players had something to play for but the came out sleepwalking.I had mixed emotions about some of the reaction on the sidelines,on one hand I was glad to see some cared enough to get pissed but on the other if it takes stinking up the joint to get you motivated in that situation maybe you don't care enough about playing to your potential in the first place.

Best thing I saw was Johnson's reaction to Badet's dropped pass, the kid is invested in what he is doing,he may not be all world but he is giving us what he has got.I want kids like that on the field,if I were a player that is a teammate I want to play with.

Some of you are clearly too old or too robotic to remember what being a teenager/young adult is like. At that age is all about what is right in front of you at that very second that determines your actions.

I was a bit surprised by the turnout. I think we just live in a society where it is the nature of the beast that most would rather stay at home, save money, stay warm and watch a ton of games instead of committing most of their college football Saturday to going to one game.

It's like me with MTSU. I went to MTSU and like to root for their athletic teams, especially football, and I always say "I want to go to a game" but then I always say "Oh it's at this time and these big games are on at this time" blah blah, and I end up just staying home and watching Bama vs. LSU, OSU vs. Michigan, and games like that as I love college football as a whole.

I will say if I lived near Lexington I would go to as many football and b-ball games as I could financially. I live in Nashville area and it is just hard to make the trip more than once or twice a year with what I make at present.

And some are too young to understand the concept of taking care of the business at hand and doing something just because it is the right thing to do no matter if anyone is around to see it or not.

Look I'm a long time season ticket holder and attend road games as well... The UK administration stiffed loyal UK fb fans for 50+ years from basketball only (are you listening Hagan and get in his name off the field CM Newton) for not hiring Schnellenburger to be the coach to a total lack of $$$$$$$$$ support for facilities, but thru all this the fans continued to come until they stiffed Brooks on building facilities and the Joker debacle... For those of you who don't think UK fans want to be sec competitive in fb I give you the spring games MS first two years...UK HAS THE BEST FANS IN THE COUNTRY , but many have become tired of the BS from the admin... The money has now started flowing and now it is time to get a leader to take us to the next level... Don't Settle For Less!!! Build it and the fans will come!

Learn sports, doc. It ain't life or death. Teens/young adults are immature and effected by their environment. Does Cal's basketball team put everybody away in 1st five minutes every time out???

Hey Danny, bottom line, did UK fans help the cause last night or not? Money has been put into it, the facilities are better than ever. True football fans, not casual fairweathered ones, would've showed up last night to support the players and program.

I was there until the final horn , but I did have the luxury of the field level pass and got to warm up at halftime a little. Watching the game at the end and seeing so few people in the stands made me feel sorry for those kids especially the seniors and the program. Just my two cents :(

BS if you think it is the fans especially last night! The HC sent a message to the players that all they had to do was show up and AP would lay down... Dosent work that way unless you are Ala.... Tell me something, how much did it help that a bunch of fans were booing last night? Stoops should have had HIS team come out and slap AP in the mouth and put them away in the first quarter and then he could have rested everybody. Had nothing to do with the fans last night... That one was ALL ON THE HC

I had to miss the game last night for the first time in a long time... Does that make me a bad fan? Sometimes life gets in the way

After Stoops 4th and goal from the 1 yard line field goal call last week at UT, that was it for me. When you are a big underdog, on the road, against a team you have beaten one time in thirty tries and he pulls some chicken$hit like that. That pissed a lot of people off. I like Stoops but he plays wayyyyy too conservative to ever do anything special here. 6-6 or 7-5 is his max on a good year.

So how does your theory explain half *** effort and piss poor coaching during the Southern Miss disaster that happenned to have had the highest attendance in a home opener since 2011?

Too many fans maybe? Too much excitement? Too much support? GTFO

If I'm not mistaken UK won the game last night.

Anybody that thinks crowd doesn't effect game is nuts, really out of touch. UK fans had a poor showing, there's no arguing that.

My god..give me a break..the fan's fault? Really? It was obvious from the opening snap when Stoops decided to sit Johnson (because he thought we could coast by and win just by showing up) that he didn't have the team ready to go
Bingo...all that coachspeak about respecting every opponent goes right out the window.

So a small crowd made a difference last night, but a large boisterous one didn't vs So Miss...o.k. Just so we got it straight...how about the coach screwed up both games and it had nothing to do with the fans

UK football fans have shown over the years ,that they are as supportive as any in the SEC! No other fan base would endure what UK's have and have the support and almost Quiouxtic obsession with hopefully a winning football team! Fans ain't the problem, search elsewhere !!

It seemed the Alabama against Chattanooga wasn't a sold out by any means. Maybe something was wrong with my tv but there were a lot of empty seats.

I believe Stoops made a rookie mistake in signaling to the team that they could sleep walk through the game by leaving out the starters. If he feels the same way I'd bet he won't do it again. He's still learning just like the rest of us.

Embarrassingly small crowd.

49-13 isn't a screw up.

The place wasn't full for So. Miss. either (thousands boycotting Mitch in home opener I guess) but yes that was a screw up. So UK fans decided 10 game slater to stay home in even more droves. Awesome.

That first half was ALL on Stoops and shame on you for starting a thread trying to put that on the fans.

You're right, we won and we weren't losing that game but the first half was an embarrassment. UK has an awful stigma but deserved in many respects of being a joke of a fball program. Did that first half make that better or worse? Analysts, twitter, posts etc we're snickering at us and rightfully so and this isn't the same as Bama. Everyone knows Bama wasnt losing, but with us, it's UK just being UK again.

Stoops should have treated that game like any other (coaching 101) and came out and kicked the ish out of them from the get go and then rested who he wanted.

I know a little about sports, played all of them in high school, officiated football for several years, been a fan since I can remember, players know when something is on the line, they don't need a crowd to point it out,if the coaches and players couldn't get motivated to get to a bowl game a crowd isn't going to change that.

If you are a kid playing at this level it is pretty much life and death, your identity is tied to being a college football player, right or wrong your status is defined by how you play.

Not sure how anybody could justify that crowd last night. Or argue that running out of tunnel into that embarrassment would not have an effect on the players. Own it, we only fill the place when the team is good AND the weather is good AND the opponent is good.

Actually, you're right.

The crowd was there at the beginning and before we knew it we were down 13-0. By the time the place was half empty we were up 49-13. I see a correlation.

Heres the problem with the crowd thing, they asked for it at the GA game and blew it, then got kicked around in Knoxville and expect everyone to just show up. Its starts like that that keep people away. It's not on the fans, they don't ever take a snap.

At kickoff lower bowl was probably 60% full. Upper was maybe 1/3 full.

By the time we left about half of that was gone.

Well said man. The hardcores will be in the stands regardless. For everyone else, various reasons that they are, to steal something from WLAP this morning...you've got to put a product on the field so compelling that nothing else matters to folks and they'll be there.

The crap show we started off with 0-2.5 (we'll count part of NMS)...look at what Commonwealth was for the Georgia game just a few short weeks later. To question the fans is horseshit. It obviously doesnt take much to get us there. But when we're there in full force you better win the damn game and not break our hearts again and again and again and again and again. Follow that up with a manhandling at Tennessee and then a horrible weather day against a team that hasnt won in two seasons...

Just a garbage home schedule this season. That doesn't help matters.

Next year will be better ... last three home games against Ole Miss, Tennessee and Louisville.
