We stayed 3 days. Explored the downtown area. I really liked it. My wife, who given her preference would just go out to camp and stay, wasn't a huge fan. She enjoyed the heck out of the 6 hour plus concert, but wasn't nearly as curious as I was about experiencing the downtown.
She likes Charleston, New Orleans and Austin.
I definitely prefer Charleston and NOLA. Charleston is my favorite city in America.

This is probably a crazy idea, but does anyone think it is feasible to leave the lot after session one to go get something to eat? Would we get shut out of parking spaces when we came back for session two?

Even though Spring Break is next week, CATA is running their Full Service schedule so the Blue & White Loops will be running Saturday and Sunday. They’re paid for by student fees so there is no fare. Just be sure to thank a student for covering your tab.

In Philly last year, and I understand the parking complex is different than PSU, there were a lot of people just hanging out between sessions. Bring a small cooler and walk around the lots. Bring a koozie or cup if that makes you feel better. No way they'll be able to enforce anything, especially if you're not stationary at your car. I can't imagine they're clearing the lots between sessions right?
I bought a ticket for basketball a few weeks ago and it was good from hour before event until 11 that night which was over 10 hours. I can't imagine they sell tickets for each session

This was a post about tailgating at PSU for Big Tens. For those who decided to change the subject of the original post, who gives a rats a** that you went to a concert in NC or Philly and the parking at that venue. It has nothing to do with the topic. Stay on topic to better assist the group on solutions. Damn, self indulged a little?

Talk about disparity of treatment. PSU won’t allow 18,000 fan tailgate for day for wrestling and 1/2 are PSU fans when their home team is looking to run away with the title and repeat again as national champs. Yet they will let over 100,000 tailgate for a night and a day for a football team who is barely mediocre at this time no offense to football. And over 30,000 of those at a game are from the opposing team. And include all th students that tailgate and half of them are underage. That is disparity of treatment. And this is not to offend football or that underage drinking happens everywhere. Just pointing out some facts.
If you look at some of the parking lot signs for football weekends it also says “No tailgating”. We all see how that works out. I wouldn’t get too worked up about it.

I’m probably not going to thank my two kids attending Penn State right now for whom I am paying their tuition for covering “my” CATA tab. :)

PSU, with regards to parking, is absolutely stupid.
You would think that with the experience of having 100k 6 times a year for decades would give us some efficiency. But I swear it keeps getting worse, despite no real increase in attendance.

My hope is Tikk is already working on our behalf on the Class Action suit or better yet an injunction to stop this clearly arbitrary and capricious discrimination again Penn State Wrestling fans and their gastronomic/ libation activities near combustion or EV machinery.

My first time attending an event at BJC. Maybe a silly question but will there be Job Johnies in the parking lots? I’ll probably have a bladder full of coffee when I arrive and at my age I have to think about such things lol

Good question and prob not if they are saying no tailgating. (They put locks on them.). But the bathroom situation in BJC isn’t bad.

Best idea is drink at the bars in town. Many very good bars with good food. Then go over to the BJC before and between sessions. It’s a great time

Just a hunch, this is A reaction to the problems caused by tailgating on the paved lots at the Hockey game in Beaver Stadium.

The tailgates made passage to park impossible and many spots went unfilled and cause lots of bottlenecks. The grass lots will not be open and one can expect parking enforcement will be out in numbers. They park facing in rule is being policed at every event with a drive by system recognizing your license plate as being attached to a paid parking receipt.

Hockey fans can **** up anything.

also, for those ponying up the $ 125.00 for between sessions hospitality in the Club at the stadium, don’t expect much and there are only like 10 urinals.

If they truly want the fans to have a great experience, yes.... So I 100% expect there to be none. It really seems like PSU goes out of their way to p!ss off fans wherever they can. Even on FB weekends with their stupid traffic rules.

Cmon. This is apples and Chryslers. No comparison. And not “facts” (there are nowhere near 30,000 away fans for football games - half that at best for big games).

The biggest difference with football is that the parking is not enforced by license plate. It is enforced by getting a hang tag for your car months in advance or paying/scanning on your way in, depending on the lot. The system they are using for these events is different. I don’t know why they just don’t have people at entrances collecting $10, but they don’t. It has absolutely no comparison to the football process so the comparison is petty.

All that said, I am guessing this is a lot of hand wringing about nothing. PSU (and most venues) have rules that are selectively enforced for a reason. PSU has rules for football that you can’t tailgate during the game. But it happens all the time and no one cares. Why? They want to be able to shut down a 200 person student rager that goes on from 8am to 8pm without let up. Five guys and a cooler who decide to sit in the parking lot after halftime? No problem.

I would absolutely not hesitate to have a small group, cooler, small grill, table out of the way of traffic and not sweat it. Maybe it will get shut down. But the reason IMHO for the “no tailgate” rule is likely because they don’t want tables and people blocking license plates. Even during the game people leave tailgate supplies up all the time in back of their car.

The license plate enforcement is also why they have (and strictly enforce) the no backing in rule.

I guess we will see. I will be drinking beers in the parking lot guaranteed.

It does sometimes get a little out of hand, however not nearly as bad as when kegs were permitted in the parking lots. They would drink the beer and then have keg throwing competitions.

This is the best idea. I do it at concerts all the time when out of town. Get a room, then get an Uber to the concert. They always get right to the front door. No D&D to worry about, and it saves a lot of time.
My wife and I did that when we went to Nashville. Wonderful experience. No worries about drinking, directions, parking... worth every penny.

Will regular parking be available this weekend? For the Nebraska match, we parked at the East Deck, no prepaid pass.

There were quite a few Job Johnie’s throughout the parking lot for the Nebraska match. They were gone for the Ohio State match. The hockey game at Beaver Stadium was the day after the Nebraska match and I assume that was the reason they had them.

the problem at hockey wasn't the tailgating, it was how they parked people. They should have filled the lots from the top to the bottom, but instead they let people park randomly so then when they set up their tailgate stuff, you couldn't access the open spaces.

A friend of mine called the BJC to ask about tailgating (socialize , have a drink or a snack, not a big party) in the morning after parking and in the afternoon, between sessions. The transportation supervisor who is in charge of parking said. Absolutely no tailgating of any kind. If that's the case, there are going to be alot of unhappy fans from all over the country.
PSU could f-up a wet dream! Sooner or later they will run off 50% of their fan base. A friend of mine went to the Nebraska FB game and pulled into the parking line where the guy says, “That will be $145.”
My friend replies how do I turn around?
PSU is all $$$$$$ and no customer service.
exactly why we will never again go to a FB game.

Fair criticism and I have a love/hate relationship w many things PSU. But for a devils advocate perspective:

1) You’d have to try pretty hard to avoid the myriad of communications about parking at PSU football that do everything short of demand you buy in advance. They practically beg you to. In advance is probably $20-30 for the outer lots that are even available to pay as you enter.

2) The parking for wrestling this weekend is about $10, and people are complaining about the process and tailgating.

3) To park in the main lot that 90% of us will park in this weekend, for a football season requires a $2,500 donation. That’s over $300 per game. And those spots are very much in demand. While people here try to complain that PSU should have the same rules for wrestling parking as football… as long as they charge $10.

That about sums up the human perspective. And I say that as someone who will be watching the tourney from my sofa even though I live in State College.

As for tailgating, I believe that Penn State has to get approval from College Township for every tailgating date. At least that was the case when the Spikes first started and ruffled some feathers on both sides.
