I have some already in mind but always want to hear your suggestions.

EDGY Dozen team?

Kids who didn't make All State....kids who are simply damn good to great high school players. Make sure you make a good case for anyone....need to be a hard nosed all out balls to the wall blood and guts kinda guy.

Recruiting profile/winning team doesn't matter here.

Fire away.

I am going to be a homer because I saw these players play every week. I think Hindale South's
Destin Talbert...2018 Was a threat every time he touched the ball and under the radar talent. Watch his film top 5 WR next year.
Aaron Woods speedy d-lineman with great upside causes big issues for the online.
Deontae Curry not sure if honorable mention counts but if not hands down one of the best defensive players in the state I truly believe if he was 3 inches taller would be a top national player. 20,TFLs , 3sacks numerous qb hits and I am sure every team game planned for him. Leader on and off the field.

Palatine had many... but I'll say WR Johnny O'Shea... Just a great athlete making incredible catches. And when he didn't come down with one he thought he should have - look out after that! Looking forward to his senior year next season. And I guess he's damn good basketball player too.

I'll nominate MLB Brett Moorman of Fenwick. I only saw him play once (against PFN), but I was very impressed. At first, I thought he was a big run-stuffing LB, which he could do. However, he also made plays sideline-to-sideline. Great speed and agility. Didn't miss a tackle in space. Ultra intense....and was the heart and soul of the Fenwick defense. He reminded of a younger, bigger Chris Jeske of JCA (circa '01-'04) and Northwestern fame.

No doubt Moorman. Since I've been around the program, I have to nominate OG Joe Calcagno also of Fenwick. Ive seen him on varsity the past three years and he is simply a Catholic League ballplayer. 3x All Conference in the Catholic league should say something. One of the toughest kids I've seen always playing through the whistle. Doesn't get much notice because of his size. Not to mention he's the #4 long snapper in the country.

Tyler Ward and Izzy Adeoti of Plano. Have worked harder than anyone to get their names out there and on to recruiting boards. Always competing their tails off, and always in the top tier of kids at camps.

You know I could go on and on about all the guys from GW but Eric Samuta was a kid who was the difference between GW being ok (he suffered a dislocated elbow in 1st QTR vs LT and missed LT, HC, OPRF and PW) and great (D player of the game vs Brook, HS, York, AT, NV, H-F) all while playing through excruciating pain. Against H-F he injured his hip (bursa sac) yet stayed on the field making plays all the way through Edwardsville & LA. Look at the scores and you see the difference in GW between him playing and not. LA game he tried to stop those monsters but the hip restricted his movement while LA exploited the other side where injuries left undersized subs.

Samuta is an outstanding leader and great kid. Had he not been injured against LT, I guaranty that his stats would have put him in range of all-state. You know I love Goleash and Moorehead and Mattson and Langan and believe they did a stellar job all season especially holding HC to 24 points in regulation without Samuta. But GW doesn't beat NV, H-F or Edwardsville without Samuta on the field.

DB Cameron Weems Nazareth 3 year starter. Quietly shut down plenty of top receivers over both title runs and this year.

Ivory Kelly-Martin OE, SWP offensive player of the year. Over 1700 total yards and 28 TD's while averaging 2.5 quarters a game.

Elijah James OE, 99 total tackles, 7 sacks, 21 TFL's. All while being double and triple teamed.

Both were critical parts to an OE team that posted a 9-2 record, beat 7a runner-up PFN (with their starting qb), and held 8a runner-up Loyola to their second lowest point total of the year.

Mike Pusateri MLB Maine South finished the year with 147 total tackles. Not bad for someone playing one of the most physical positions in the game. He is 5'8 maybe 5'9 on a good day 190 pounds. The shot caller baller and team leader of a defense that improved every week. If a big play was needed he was there. If a goal line stop was needed #42 was there. If someone wasn't playing up to their potential he let them know. If a call didn't get in on time he improvised. Easily fits the mold of the Edgy Dozen. Might even be the captain of that team. Hard nosed, nasty, fierce and someone you want on your team! Did I mention played with a broken thumb and took a hit against E-town that could have ended most players season.

I would put Jack Grochowski. Average 16.6 YPC from what I could find. Was wearing a full cast for 3 post season games as a receiver, and continued to punt and kick with it on. Not one fumble during that period of time either. Kid just made highlight catch after highlight catch.

Fenwick:

RB Conner Lillig
MLB Brett Moorman
DL Ellis Taylor
WR Jack Henige

The entire offensive line.

No one gave this group of young men a snowball's chance in Hades (preseason NR in every poll I've seen) and the rest is history.

Happy Holidays,

Elijah Teague - Marist H.S. - Best D. Tackle we saw all year. Really big, Really strong and fast. Occupies space and disrupts. Allowed those Marist LB s to run around free.

Isaiah Hill-Minooka
The best punt/kick returner that I have seen since Tommy Zibikowski from Buffalo Grove.
As a receiver he could make something out of nothing. Speedy-going to play at North Dakota State.

Which All State Teams are we talking about? The IHSFCA all state teams in 8A, 7A etc? Well don't get me started on those teams....The 8A All state team has 5 QB's and 2 O Linemen. How the heck does that work? I would say that team would struggle against other all state teams if they played a friendly match because three QB's would have to be playing on the Line!!

Also - No Jarvis? No AJ? No Thomas? Guess that means they are eligible for Edgy's Dirty Dozen?;)

Ok I am now getting off my bully pulpit:.....How about Trevor Campbell OL from Naperville Central?

Kid is a grinder in the Run game
* two time All Conference DVC
* Unanimous selection this year
* Outstanding Offensive Lineman of the year in DVC

Zach Oles, Palatine - in 9 games and 1 quarter before he broke his collarbone, he threw for 1,886 yards and 18 touchdowns while running for 487 yards and 18 touchdowns. If he doesn't get hurt....

Cole Kmet, St. Viator - Missed 1st 3 games with an injury. Still had 48 receptions for 773 yards. Headed to Notre Dame.

Johnny O'Shea, Palatine - Caught everything and anything thrown his way, even with defenders hanging on him. had 71 catches for 850 yards and 12 TD's.

Nick Bart, Barrington - 3-year starter that anchored an offensive line that had over 3,500 yards rushing this season.

IHFCA teams have always been a joke. That team is a beauty pageant voted on by an oftentimes thin-skinned knitting circle of coaches holding grudges. Not every voter is so infantile, but some coaches are just disinterested in securing personal glory for sometimes immature 17 yr olds the coaches have pampered and prodded for six months if not years.

Not gonna go back and verify, but some schools/coaches care so little, you see omissions year in year out that make you wonder whether the coach even bother to submit the f'ing form ( I'm looking at you OPRF.).

That is why Edgy calls his The Only All-State Team That Matters. Edgy takes the time to build a roster that can actually get on the field and play as a team while building his knowledge through the year at combines Summer practices and sidelines during games to enhance the Coach's feedback.

That was gonna be my pick from Palatine too. Grochowski played full out beast mode all season and did everything asked of him and more. Biggest overlook I think was him taking on punting duties after Oles got hurt...Held off St Charles East because he pinned them inside their own 10 yard line numerous times in the 4th quarter.

From Quags DH All-Area synopsis:

Grochowski did it all for the Pirates, playing wide receiver, fullback, defensive back, kicker and punter. He had 625 receiving yards and 9 touchdowns, even playing with a broken hand. He also converted 53 of 57 extra points and 8 field goals.

And if you're looking for hard nosed...he could make a tackle when needed too. Go to the 3:25 mark of these highlights and enjoy..

Owen Weaver, Wilmington WB/LB...small school guy so he won't make the all state teams.

Broke Damien Anderson's school rushing record for yards and TDs, also was an all state caliber LB.
2016: over 2000 yds rushing, 38 TDs, 24 TFLs, 11 sacks.

I think this list has to include two running back types - one under 5-9 and one over 230 lbs.

I have to agree with Joe Calcagno. The family is tough. My nominee is Nick Calcagno. Transferred to Naperville North into one of the toughest conferences and was first team DVC wide receiver as a junior, not an easy task. Had 38 catches, 450+ yards, 7 TDs on a team with two 1000 yard rushers. I watched him 3-4x, he is the real deal.

Jackson Bruscianello - Soph - Defensive MLB
Rian O'Connor - Junior - Defensive back
Nick Orlando - Junior- Offensive QB and defensive back

I forgot to put in as Edgy requested what these players did during the season.

Slater didn't start right away but when he did he was a force on the defensive line and special teams. Had 6 or 7 sacks and a ton of tackles. If he were 20 pounds heavier few offense lines wold stop him getting to the QB

Quaglia played WR and had just two or three TDs mainly running after the catch. Fast with good moves and hands but for whatever reason wasn't targeted. When he was he caught the ball. Solid tackler and defender on defense.

Karczewski was used at the start of the season at LB and up to the Mt. Carmel game was the leading tackler. on the team. Switched to primary RB 3/4 of the way thru the season. Very good blocking back at the start of the season. Had a 7 yard per carry average, 7-8 touchdowns and was the workhorse for Montini in its last 4 regular season games. Terrific athletic ability.

Bruscianelli, a sophmore started at MLB from the second game of the season. Sure tackler and very good speed. Good against the run and got better against the pass. Tough kid with great size for MLB. Future all state player IMO

Rian O'Connor altho small in stature was our best defensive back and had 4-5 interceptions. Great leaping ability and sure tackler. Has great hands and was used on punt returns because he won't muff the ball.

Orlando played solid defense at the start of the season and after injury to our #1 QB was an alternating QB for the rest of the season. Very good option QB with good speed and has the moves to make tacklers miss.

Jim Kenneally - IC Catholic Prep

3 Year Starter on both sides of the ball with 33 career sacks. Had 90 tackles this year in a scheme that had him devoted to swallowing blockers for the linebackers to run and make tackles. Teams could not run the edge due to extreme physicality, quickness, and technique as a defensive end. he would cut off the ball and force it back inside, where the LBs would clean up.

On the Offensive side - had over 35 pancakes and moved to an undersized front-side tackle after two years as a starting center.

Stats aside, he was the heart and sole and unquestioned leader of the Knights. Matt Bowen only refers to him as "a warrior".

only thing i will disagree with is that the DVC was not one of the toughest conferences last year.
