I joined this board to engage in football chat, but found out it is a board to vent frustrations and argue with other posters. That is a necessary function and fun in its own way, but nothing really to do with football. What boards actually talk recruiting and the games? RSS? HuskerMax? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

this one used to, but many great posters have been chased off in recent year. I’ve been posting for over 10 years and only recognize a handful of posters these days. I’m sure some more are here but under different names, but this place is intolerable at times
The ones that have been kicked off needed to be. People vent here because many are from out of state where people don’t give a rats @ss about Neb and they have to connect with those who know our team. And ultimately people are passionate and care about our program and want to see a good winning product. Losing 10 in a row, going back to back years without a bowl game will bring out the frustration in many. I will say this, the demise of the program is due to the administration, not the fans. Nebraska fans are as good and classy as it gets.
I have been here since the start and it used to be the best free board to talk Husker football, obviously it is a cesspool, over run with trolls now. But honestly, with the current state of the program there is going to be a lot of venting and fighting on all the boards. I know there is on the other two you mentioned.
For the most part, all NU boards work the same way. Frustrations and arguments are pretty typical. I have never subscribed here so I can't comment on RSS. This free board used to be better in the past, but I think once Frost turns things around, the atmosphere will change. However, I will say that huskermax is slightly less drama than here. But, to post at all you need to subscribe.
Message board rioting and looting is a well-known phenomenon during a sports team implosion. Message boards reflect the state of a program. It is what it is. You suck it up and take the bad with the good. Either the OP is inexperienced with this type of forum or a troll playing naive.
The problem with HuskerMax is most of the posts start with some really good discussion, but virtually every one degenerates into two or three of the same guys jabbing at each other as they have for the last 10 years. That gets old.
You can't control what others do. So, stop trying.
If someone is an obvious troll or posts something that crosses the line, then by all means click on that Report button in the lower left of their posts and inform a moderator and let them take care of it.
If a poster only posts stuff that you find of no value (trolling, bullying, injects political crap into every post, etc.) you can place them on ignore. Click on their username. A box pops up with basic info on their posting history. Click ignore and never see their posts again. I don't use this very often, but it's helped me maintain my sanity when confronted with others that just enjoy getting a rise out of you.
There's good and bad people in this life. You have to figure out who you want to associate with. You can use your own internal "ignore" feature to handle those.
As far as game talk, that should always start with you. You create the thread and setup the parameters for discussion.
Finally, we have a bad product that dresses up in red each Saturday this fall. So, there will be talk about who's responsible for this mess. If you feel you are overwhelmed as you try to defend the coaching staff or players just back out of the thread. You can't change everyone's mind. When we return to winning then you'll see a lot more positive posts and this board will be funner.

Husker fans bicker and in-fight like almost no other fanbase. HuskerMax is full of crotchety old dudes who get their panties bunched up and sit atop their “nicest fans in the country” ivory tower and thus take it upon themselves to police the rest of the fans.

Part of the problem is time. There are instances when people will dissect and analyze games, schemes, play calling, positions, recruiting, etc. The other part of the problem (imo) is just how bad our performance has been versus the super lofty expectations.
