North Iredell HC in Andy Howell Resigned This past week. Interim HC Kent Millsaps (former SI HC).

The next guy that North Iredell Football should hire is Jeremy Funderburk. He is a Alum and He has coach at 2 school similar in way to North Iredell. That MAKE THE MOST SENSE TO ME unless there another candidate that has better creds. Last time there were 50 applicates for the Job before Andy Howell was hired 6 years ago.

What a mess. I'm not sure who would want that job. AD is also retiring.

Until the northern end of the county decides to reestablish their youth football programs and build from down up, that is a dead end situation.

I have heard they have their next AD in line but idk

They will have a new principal as well as their old one got a promotion

also as stated above - Jeremy Funderburk is the #1 guy Unless someone else who has a a good resume. I think they need to hire someone who know NI from insides n out bc North is a Hard hard place to win but with the right guy 5-7 wins every yr is Realistic and do able.

North Iredell is a tough place to coach. North Iredell is just so rural and some area its just so far away from the School. That could cause transportation problems. Area like Cool Springs is about 20 to 25 minutes away from the School. Others like Harmony, Union Grove, Love Valley, Turnersburg. I would personally like to see North Iredell do better coming from a Statesville Greyhound fan. When they redistrict the School Zones about 25 years ago, that killed North Iredell football program. I have 1 candiate. I would try Monty Chipman on Starmount Staff. He turned East Wilkes and North Wilkes into solid programs.

They don't need someone that's in his retirement era. I don't think Funderburk is the answer either. They need to get out of Iredell County imo. That's what hinders Iredell athletics in many ways. The Iredell way isn't getting it done.

Monty is home here at Starmount and stated that this is the last place he will ever coach.

North had very competitive games in the 70s and 80s with Starmount under Coach Love.

What redistricting happened?

They lost most of their talented athlete that lived on East Statesville on King Street . Right accross from Twin Oaks Golf course and the Animal Shelter on Greenbrier Road. Most of the kids that lived on Greenbrier went to North Iredell back in the old school days. Just right outside the City limits. Thats about 30 to 35 from North High especially riding the School bus. Now all of Greenbrier is in the Statesville High District. Good athletes that lived their that went to North like Carl Jones, David Chambers, Jerry Hayden Rhine Rankin. Etc. Losing that neighborhood to Statesville High killed North Iredell football program

There is a Data Center that they are trying to push in up in Statesville as I’m sure most everyone knows by now. Which locals are totally against. More jobs could bring in more people moving in which could be beneficial to schools like Stateville, West Iredell and possibly North Iredell concerning sports. That I don’t know. Just a thought. Personally I’m against the Data Center myself. I’m glad the one they try to push in down in Mooresville got shot down.

Data centers dont bring jobs. Most of these huge data centers employ less than 30 people. We have several in Kings Mountain, including the data center for Disney and they have i think 8-10 people working there. Massive buildings, full of computers and cooling stations.

Thanks for shedding light on that. I didn’t realize that.

Bringing jobs and more people to Iredell is just going to continue to cause more over crowding in the schools as long as the county commissioners refuse to do anything about growth. They think ignoring the issue will fix it. By the time the new high school gets built it will be at capacity and South will remain at capacity.

I hate it for North Iredell Seniors like Kaleb Sales. Maybe, he can try to transfer out of North Iredell to another program. Its still early in the season.

North has part of that section of East Middle but mostly soccer kids are primary that go to North but if they had that same % that went up in 80s n 90s half of statesville O line would be at North Iredell

If you go young idk who they would hire and personally I think they need a season vet to atleast reestablish a hard nose working man mentality and also weight room is a must in which is a major overhaul. Also North Middle has to produce more but doesn’t! You need have better development at NIMS

I think what you do is Bring in a Veteran coach like Tom Harper or Russell Stone or whoever (Not say these guys will come) but then u bring another guy with the veterans guy so let them work together for 2-3 years then Younger cat takes over once there a foundation built n they learn under the season veteran

North Middle doesn't produce more because they don't have youth football to feed into the middle school! This certainly isn't the middle schools problem and the guy running things there now is doing the best he can do with what he has. Whoever is the head coach at the high school has to help fix that problem but the community also has to step up.

Wasn't Harper at North once before?

Until the community is ready for change from the bottom up and willing to step up, it's going to be a struggle. I looked at their roster tonight. They have 19 kids.

East Wilkes is not solid program because of Chipman. They was mediocre at best. Adkins is the one that righted the ship at EW

East Wilkes was a doormat for years before Chipman was HC. When Chipman took over at East Wilkes around 2003. He did improve East Wilkes football program. The year before East Wilkes players and fans were having issues with the HC Wescott. A number of players walk out and quit. I don't know the story, but several of them transfered over to Elkin. I do agree about JK Adkins. It took Adkins a few years to build East Wilkes into a winner. I believe 2015 was the best East Wilkes team in School History.

I agree there more to it then North Middle but what im saying when you are at the HS level and you still have teach the BASICS OF THE BASICS its kill the program big time bc your so behind the 8 ball and makes its 10x tougher

TBH i wouldnt be shocked if NI just goes to JV ONLY for 2 yrs maybe 3 to help improve there program like others have

No way they go jv only. I'm not sure what it takes to even do that but usually places that are jv only are new schools. Does the state even allow that?

How could that even help the program? JV only then what happens to the sophomores when they become juniors? What about the kids that would be current juniors and seniors?

Patton did it last year. East Rutherford did it a few years ago.

Believe it or not, there was a point many years ago when Statesville, South Iredell and North Iredell were all 3 ranked in the Top 5 of 3A.
I believe it was in the Charlie Love time and it was early part of season.

But that was about the only time period North Iredell was really good for any stretch of time.
