I predicted this, but I am amazed that no one is giving them a hard time for losing to a bad East Rowan team. I apologize but I have been an AHS bulldog my whole life and I know the kind of ridicule we would have taken for all the transfers and still losing to a team like ER. All the NS pride and youth league stuff is a nice laugh as I look in retrospect. They have the best player from Montgomery county and still lost. The key is they lost their offensive and defensive line and they have a QB who is a huge drop-off from the NS QB from last year. This will be a disappointing year for NS. #KARMA is a female puppy dog.

You were dead on. Was told they looked young in the secondary. ER threw 3 or 4 TD passes. No depth on line. Needed all those lineman they lost from last year.

Something ain't adding up. I thought NS only lost 2 players from their D last year? And you know Rhone is playing on D. So that's 10 very esperienced on the D. Why 27 points? And how 3 or 4 passing TD's?

I read where Rhone had a TD reception and nothing else. Davis was held to under 100 yards. The formula NS has doesn't equate to success. Bring in players for a year or two from surrounding counties and hope for the best. Rhone ISN'T the best player in Montgomery County by no means. He was a speedy player. That honor belongs to Peyton Coble and many would have said that last year as well. The fight NS had in the gym should tell everyone on here all they need to know about the leadership and discipline that team has. All the talent in the world will not overcome that when you are faced with a real TEAM and coaching staff.

Rhone scored and gave up a passing TD. Got hurt but came back in from what I was told. Long season for North to figure it out. Don't want to stir them up before conference play. They still loaded regardless of coaching. Can win Yadkin on talent alone.

Agree with winning the YVC with the talent on that team. Rhone joined a team loaded at the RB position. After last night and the performance from Coble and Little (FR) he may have seen the writing on the wall. He's a heck of a talent but with that came a lot of issues. On and off the field. I think that NS recruiting him to the super team was best for both parties involved. Best of luck to him and Comets. They have the talent to make it to State. Definitely win the YVC.

Is anything less than a state championship acceptable for a team that has loaded up on talent like this?

I would think not. You have players from all over Stanly County, two from Montgomery County and at least two from Cabarrus County. For a 1AA team in the playoffs that in itself would be strong. Add two D1 signees already with the potential for a possible three more what more could they do to stack the deck in their favor? Maybe less time sparring in practice and more work on the team concept and execution on the field? I'm not sure. But they've had talent the last four or five years but it's amounted to squat. They went all in with the efforts dating back to last season to get players to come there for this season. I believe their staff knows this is it. They have ONE shot at ever doing anything there other than watching Homecoming Ceremonies and it's this season.

lost to ER and still think you'll be NR. I need whatever you drinking

Unless NR really improved from last season they are very beatable. NS has more talent than any two teams in the YVC on paper. Paper doesn't win football games. I see a dog fight between NS, NR and WM for the top three. NS will be gunning hard for WM because of all the bad blood that has existed for years when WM was whipping them by 40-50 points on a regular basis. Add Rhone to the mix and I can promise you that's going to be a penalty plagued game.

NS will be fine and could easily win the league. They don't have the history of success and big-game experience (yet) needed to "reload" and dominate the regular season. This loss was not a huge surprise. Openers are usually tough. First time up for everybody and anything can happen.

Will pull for all Stanly Cty teams (except when playing AHS), though agree with susan that this should temporarily shut up the few really annoying Comets fans on here.

Agree with that, but I think they'll get plenty of wins and should have a decent playoff run to build some experience.

Experience for what? Their window is this season and anybody saying any different is drinking more than vodka. They are senior heavy team at the skill positions and judging from Friday night the coaching staff relies a hell of a lot on the talent of the players as opposed to strategy and technique. Yeah, they'll win some games but let's face it, the YVC gives you 3-4 easy wins every year. After this season you can say 4-5 because the Comets run in the top three will be over. A collection of players from surrounding areas isn't a way to build a program. It's a way to sell tickets for a season or two and possibly boost a coaching resume'. The gymnasium brawl and the sideline bickering is evident that this group is lacking in chemistry and that's not something that is built in two weeks prior to a season in which that talent is there to go to State but the obvious lacking ingredient is at the top.

Albemarle has never gathered talent the way NS has. I’ll admit to a kicker and a DB, but that’s it... if Gaster had that type of talent rolling from other counties, he’d won at least 9 state titles with his philosophy and the coaching staff at the time lol....ol well...

North Rowan will win the YVC.

Looks like NS needs to see what's available on the waiver wire on the defensive side of the ball. I'm sure they have their scouts out looking at practices this week to see who they can get to lovely New London for a few months to play! Aside from that I agree with you on NR the favorite. WM is young and NS is overhyped as usual. All that talent and zero chemistry.

Hard to believe they lost Friday night. Not sure why though. They aren’t Albemarle, they are North Stanly

North Stanly is perhaps the most overrated team in the history of the 1A poll in the last four years. They've had numbers, size and D1 talent. Even when they had Williams they did not win a playoff game. Hard to argue that this year with all the recruiting they did the last two years this should be the year they make it to the Tarboro Invitational. Lack of discipline and lack of leadership will doom this group of All Stars. That starts at the top.

I still think North Stanly will win the YVC despite losing to East Rowan. That loss might have been the best thing to happen to North this year. All they have been hearing and reading is how good they are and young kids will often buy into the hype and feel like all they have to do is show up and the other teams will just lay down against them. They have a week off to get ready for West Stanly and they should get their confidence back against the Colts.

I had thought this North Stanly team may actually make it to the title game. Now I have my doubts.

They have to give Cam Davis more than 11 carries like he at against East Rowan to be successful.

Salisbury Post and Stanly News and Press has him with 11 carries. Haven’t heard anything about him being injured.

Well, not sure why he wouldn't get 20 carries a game. But I guess they found the recipe to lose.

Come on Griddie..... you know what the deal is with Davis only getting a certain number of carries. You have a QB that was recruited and the top RB from WM. You think they weren't promised X amount of exposure in order to come to North Stanly? Last time I checked there is only one football in play. You have Rhone at WR now and the QB from WS slinging it to him. Davis would have 30 carries a game if I had that team. But I also wouldn't have recruited players from all over three counties in order to win either.

Agreed no reason at all in Davis getting 11 carries. He is a great player.

Imagine Davis playing in the App St or Wake offense.... Just saying. A coach that knew how to use him at the 1A level would walk to the West Championship. With that line size and a little coaching jeez...... Nobody, and I mean NOBODY will beat Tarboro this year or next. Write it down.

He’s a special RB. The type to get you to a state title game. I saw where Clark was playing a stand up end. He should have his hand down collapsing the edge every play. WTH is going on over there

When you have more coaches outside the fence than inside and you promise the players that come in "x" amount of playing time you have to hold that or else you risk getting exposed. They are not making State. It's North Stanly. The coaching staff there can't get out of their own way.

Having more coaches outside the fence than inside the fence is pretty much the norm in high school football. The difference is the good coaches don’t pay any attention to the ones in the stands.

It's only an issue when the players look there first instead of the sidelines. Case in point. Has been the issue there since Williams was running the ball.
