Buzz didn't apply! SC got a man for the job he will do good things.
SC football has had very little in the way of "good things" over the years. Almost no one has had much success there. Seems a bit like a football black hole where one goes to coach and sort of disappears.
Kelly Holder, Adrian Snow, Monty Southern! Pretty sure they didn't disappear coaching at SC!
Holder and Snow never win state championships or have the careet they do if they stay at Surry Central.
But that is not what he said. He said "black hole" where one goes to disappear. Some schools are more challenging to coach at but I believe the late great Jimmy Duggan said "the hard is what makes it great" - some coaches don't run from hard challenges. And in doing so teach their kids the same. And how do you know that Holder and Snow would have had the success they did if not for their time at SC?
Idk where to even begin as far as who gets the look for North Stokes. One of the toughest jobs in the state to take on just because you have very little to work with talent wise. I know at one point rumor was they may close the school a year or two ago. Is Stokes County still talking about that? Or has that been put on ice for now?

The main point being that SC football has had very scattered success in football, if even that. I don't recall any decent playoff runs from the Golden Eagles ever. If Snow and Holder had stayed for the long term at SC, I doubt they see the success they had later in the careers at different schools. Just doesn't seem to be the talent, depth and athleticism in Dobson to produce a consistent winner.
Yeah, NS is a place where it would take a football magician, wizard and sorcerer all rolled into one to see success. I think former coach Frank Sessoms had some decent teams and made the post season a time or two. I think lack of numbers is what hurts this school the most. I believe they have had a few instances of needing to cut their season short due to low numbers/excessive injuries.
The new league they are in should make them more competitive. All of the schools in that league are generally not good in football except for Bishop whom is not typically good in football but are pretty decent now. Building a program from the JV up is hard when you have 25-40 kids total that play football. Small rural schools like N Stokes, S Davidson, C Central and others with small enrollments pose a tremendous challenge to build like a bigger school. Lack of tradition, injuries, and scheduling often keep them on the down side and make it very hard to flip to the winning mentality. Hopefully, some of those schools will find more success now that they are playing schools their size and athletically a much better matchup for them all.
