McDowell 60
South Caldwell 42 Final.

Never seen so many penalties. McDowell players had to run suicides after the game for their poor discipline. The game should have never been that close.

The fact that South scored 40 speaks volumes. Must have been a rough cutting for the Titans defense.

The defense is a work in progress. We just dont have the bodies up front. But they definitely let South back in the game. It all started with a 100 yard INT return when McDowell could have easily ran the ball in instead. That would have made it 48-13 instead of 41-20. They have to learn how to play with a lead and how to play with composure.

If the defense plays like this against any team left on the schedule they will need a perfect offensive output to win.

Either way. Pretty sure lots of offensive school records were broken though by McDowell. Most passing TDs in a game one of them. I cant remember the last time McDowell scored 60 either.

AC Reynolds - 14
Erwin - 10
Final
I noticed Reynolds has quite a few underclassmen listed on their roster. Are these kids playing significant time or just 8 quarter kids?

I know some are/will be really good varsity ball players in the future but if Reynolds is having to use them as freshmen their depth must really be suffering.

This is McDowell football. Kind of like Watauga football before Habich. Not much history to be proud of.
The McDowell i remember was good though. Late 1990s early 2000s, they at least made the playoffs a few times. I remember a coach telling us after losing to McDowell he was gonna send the beanies he got us to McDowell and they can just wear the damn things upside down lol.

We had some OK teams back in those days but our best teams were late 80s. The past 20 years have had 1 or 2 winning seasons. It's been rough. The new coach is really building something if we can find enough athletes. Next season could be good if we can find another QB..most of our skill players are underclassmen.

I expect Watauga and Freedom to beat us easily. AC will be close and Saint will be a slight favorite over us. Either way it's been a good first year for Coach Clark.

I believe McDowell has won one playoff game in its entire history. For this coach to come in and make a strong playoff run in his first year is a huge accomplishment.
I'm not disinterested in the success of MHS-if McDowell and Freedom both take care of business, we could see a 7-2 Titans' squad travelling to Morganton on Halloween to face the 8-1 Patriots with playoff implications on the line. That would be a great way to reignite this long-time rivalry.
