It seems like this board is way busier when things are negative. There were new threads popping up all the time when S. Miss and Fla happened. How about Miss State, is that a winnable game in your opinion? I think a win tomorrow puts UK in driver's seat to go to a bowl, no I am not settling for mediocre, I just want to go to a damn post season game. After that we can win the East...

Well there hasn't been a game in 13 days. In terms of the "state of the program" stuff, pretty much everything that can be said has been. Finally another game tomorrow, at home against a 2-4 team. This is definitely a game we should win at this point in Year 4. Let's hope for the best and see what we can do.

Of course it is "winnable". It is just as winnable now as it was before the season started. Maybe a tad more winnable due to some key MSU injuries. However, based on past 300 similar games, I was surprised to learn a 3 point home 'dawg wins only about 37% of the time. A little bit of statistical scariness there.

I don't follow MSU so I can't get all footbally about their chances. But regarding a few "intangibles"...

> Cats (3-3) coming off a bye and MSU (2-4) coming off a big loss. Despite extra time to heal and prepare sometimes teams simply do not play well coming off a bye

> MSU will bring everything they got to this one since they are more up against the wall than the Cats.

Peace

I think it had more to do with the bye week. Everything has been discussed for the most part and we are just ready to see if the team we think we've grown into the last 3 weeks can string these next 2 big ones together

Not really in the driver's seat for a bowl when one looks at the rest of the schedule. That said, a loss eliminates us from a bowl game IMO. I still just think @missouri and UGA will be tough challenges for this staff, but perhaps they can steal one of those.

I think they already hit the wall and bounced off of it. Look at their schedule and I don't see more than 2 wins and that's if they beat UK which I doubt. I think they pretty much know they are cooked.

yet we are not the favorite...it is a must win; but, should we honestly expect a win?
I agree that at year four we should be above that, however, we can't discount not having Barker and an athletic backup with a sore wrist and poor accuracy...if our defense can pull this game out; put me back on the Stoops bus!

In year 4 we should be looking at no worse than 8-4. To strive for 6-6 is a failure any way you look at it. I would be ok with 7-5 and a bowl win 8-5 finish.

Good post. I've also noticed a drop-off in the activity on the board. It's still considerably more active than the other UK boards I sometimes post to.

I think we have a good chance at winning today's game. Unfortunately if we don't, the naysayers and the trolls will be crawling out of the woodwork with threads about Petrino, Miles, Briles, Brohm, and (insert your desired coach's name here).

I've been in a self imposed hiatus (nice)... MSU will be great opportunity for us to see if our perceived improvement is for-real. Well coached team, MSU.

MBB has kicked off and some of the noise might have faded to the Rafters.

Still here..

..dont get the "when things were negative"

I would get that if this was after the next 2 games and we had won both, truly putting a bowl within grasp.

Things are not negative or positive. Hopefully they will take a 2nd step towards positivity this evening. And another a week from now.

You are exactly right on all counts. Others have pointed out how no game in 13 days leaves little new to post about the team that hasn't already been said over and over. But, you are correct about the naysayers and trolls slamming this board again if we should lose today. And, for all the names to start being thrown around out there as possible replacements for Stoops. I'll admit that I've not been in Stoops' corner much with the poor showings in a 4th year but I haven't been blasting the guy and get very tired of all the negative people that come on here and just rip on players, coaches, etc. I do understand the frustration of the fans. Heck, I've been as frustrated as most of them too. But, it just gets a bit pathetic sometimes.

You aren't from around here are you? You don't remember when things were negative? I am not bashing either, I was as negative as anyone. Like another poster said, I am cautiously optomistic

The buy week, combined with the overall lack of belief Stoops being the answer, has contributed to the lack of activity. Going into the year, this was the year we were supposed to take the next step. Then we lose to SMU, completely roll over vs. UF and barely beat one of the worst team in D1. That was a dagger in the heart to a lot of us who had believed and supported Stoops for the past 3 years.

Stoops is now trying to get us back and, trust me, I want to be back on the bus. However, a lot of us are still skeptical due to the past 3 years and horrendous start to year 4. Beat MSU today and it will turn a bit more in his favor.

There's only so many "we should've hired Petrino" or "we should get Briles" or "would Saban give us a look" threads you can read before you get tired of it.

As far as the MSU game, I think we can win this game. If we want to go bowling this game is almost a must win. No margin for error if we don't get this one.

I agree that some posters are overly negative but after today we will have a pretty good idea if we have really made progress since game 2 this year. We are positioned about as well as we can be to get a win today,at some point we just have to go out and do it.The first step in moving forward is to win the games that you have a chance to win,we failed to do that in the Sou Miss game,we can to a great extent make up for that today. A conference win trumps a non conference loss (even if it one we should have won) This is a big game I hope we are ready for it.

Ruppsrevenge and dorkmeister will be back filling the board with their stupid sarcastic trolling posts if we lose tonight. If you notice, they haven't posted much, if at all, since the Bama game.

so, it seems like people are bitching that the board is slow; then someone else is saying the "speed" of the board was due to the negative crowd...
WTH, do you people want?

I really don't know how good a chance we have with a banged up, inaccurate, backup QB...I am NOT making excuses for a loss, but I did not see a MSt play sooo bad against BYU, that this is a good chance to win game. I think Stoops and Gran will have to do an excellent coaching job to pull out a W

Home game, coming off bye week,Miss St has to be a little down coming off two losses. I don't think Miss St is all that bad,it is a game that will tell us where we are in the process of gaining some respectability in the SEC

Human nature. People will complain quicker, louder, and to the masses about something they don't like vs praising something they do like.

I'll give it a shot....

I certainly don't follow State that closely but this game will tell us a lot about them as well. After playing us, they have a cupcake game against Samford (and they blew a cupcake game in their opener). They're 2-4 and they still have to play Bama, A&M, Arky, and Ole Miss after Samford.

Have the players for State already checked out on the season? While you have to assume that we'll get their best effort, their path to a bowl game is almost non-existent. OTOH, our guys have a tremendous opportunity to flip the script from the past few seasons, but can they capitalize on it?

We have to find a way beat them tonight and put an end to yet another embarrassing streak.

I like it. I agree with you but I am hoping that MSU have hung up this season as a lost cause. if we can buy 1 here, we have Peay as a win and only have to steal one against Mizzo or Ga. The 15 extra practices for a bowl game would be huge. I think it would help set us up for a huge season in 17. S Johnson should be healed and hopefully confidence restored. Banged up players healed and ready to go GBB
