Not the greatest of wins, but...

Rutgers was really, really targeting this game as their best opportunity for a win remaining. (they do have Penn State at home in March, but PSU is a far better size matchup). Geo Baker was practically in tears in the postgame, they just needed this victory so much. So there's that.

Need to figure out this offense thing to make any hay down the stretch. Playing solid D and relying on the other team to miss FTs won't cut it if we don't push our point totals at least into the low 70s...

Yup. Doubt Law would have even played if it wasn't must win time. And another positive is that we snapped our conference road losing streak (think it was at least 6 games)....
Oddly, whether football or basketball, it seems to me, that our teams arent bad on the road.
As far as today, credit to Collins. This was a big team win, especially with Law playing at 70% and not a big part of the offense.
Look, our bench stepped up and that will put us in some interesting games if it gets more consistent.
If we just find ways to win, then we may have a chance to dance.
Yes, i know we are only 2-5 but we are only 3 buckets from 4-3, and we are done with Michigan, MSU, and Assembly Hall, and dont play Purdue away. We have hope.

Agreed, but I try not to overreact to wins or losses. I think we clearly need to improve our play from tonight's effort (on offense in particular) if we are to start making some noise the next few games. I think about how we dominated a similar quad 3 team (Utah) earlier in the season and I don't see improvement from that outing in our current play We do have tremendous opportunity here as the schedule sets up favorably for us as you indicate, so if we can steadily improve it can pay dividends...

Good comments. Except for the end... no sense in replaying games from the past. We can’t get 3 baskets back.

We are 2-5, it’s a huge hill to climb, quite unlikely. But the best way to do it is to win games one at a time. Three of those “baskets” gets us to 5-5. Very unlikely. But we have Indiana at home next. In the words of Fitz, let’s do our best to go 1-0. Every win helps, every loss hurts.

True.
I watched Rutgers beat OSU (I think it was OSU) not long ago, and they actually looked pretty good, but we made them look pretty bad.
Not that we were overpowering but if our opposition doesnt shut down Pardon, we got a great chance.

They beat OSU by playing their game, and OSU couldn’t match them in that style of basketball. They played their game against us. And we beat them at their own game. Which... doesn’t mean we can beat the rest of the B1G, but it was still satisfying to get the W tonight.

why dont we set screens for taylor?
We normally do, but last night we were running double screens wher he eould run from on wing to another and rwo people would screen for him. I like that better since you have the opportunity for multiple defensders to have ti make decisions, increasinfg the odds thar one will make a bad choice. Worked last might for 3 easy 3s (one missed) and an easy post to Pardon when the second man screened made the correct choice, I believe (fight through to stay with Taylor), but the first man did not -- he didn't switch or fight through and got caught in no man's land-- should hsve had an easier look than even the Pardon look, but I'll take it).

Other teams will see it on tape, but I like the action because you can still screw up the D even if you see it on tape. We can also run variamts of this that will confuse the D as well.

Not the greatest, but a damn good W and hard fought.

Makes an NU fan think this team is still improving.

Except that they tend to show how close we are.
