for several years I got to spill beer with the 'real' Red Dawson. He never talked much about that whole thing, but he is a really good person. So incredibly sad.
I was in utero for exactly one week beyond this event. I have long known the general details around this tragedy, but it was only a few years ago that I watched We Are Marshall and read up more about it. Hell of a story![]()
for the most part the movie is very accurate. According to Reggie Oliver, whatever beer Joe Hood told him to get, was not the one in real life!! Plus when they left the Keith Albee movie theater they ran the wrong way!! Perhaps one of the biggest misses though was the students rally outside the Presidents office, cheering 'We are Marshall'. That didnt happen, and the 'We are are Marshall' chant really didnt take hold to years later.I would have been 3. The weird thing is I have some early memory of hearing about this when I was younger. My family and those close to my family were into football so maybe all the older folks talking. Plus the newspapers and magazines that used to be our only news info back then laying around the house. My dad would sit down every night and read the newspaper front to back and sometimes I would be on his lap while he was. Anyway, incredibly sad event. Never looked up how true the movie was to real life and certain people not being on the plane for one reason or the other but incredible events.
