And in February of 1980 we lost to a Jim Valvano coached Iona team by 17 and never lost another game that season on our way to our first NCAA title. It ain’t time to panic just yet. WHAT it is time for is a teaching and learning moment. CCM and staff will use last night for that purpose.

I was going to mention the Iona game as well because they really made us look bad that game. They had Jeff Rutland ( I think that was his name) he was a beast inside 6’11” 245 pounds. Number 1 is nice but when you are there you get everyone else’s best game. The years we won the titles we were in the top 10 just not number1.

I never, NEVER said that they were. But my post deals with “not giving up too soon” and I think some of our fans think that our loss last night was the end of our season when nothing could be further from the truth. And let us remember that Iona “schooled” Griff and Eaves that night and they took that lesson to heart along with Coach Crum. Plus I believe that UofL team lost seven games and I’m sure that either, or both, of them had bad games during those losses. It’s never too late.

What I can't tolerate is supposed UofL fans trolling our players on twitter calling them out. That infuriates me. Some folks suck as human beings behind a keyboard.

That's going over board. These players are college students, not professional athletes. Too many fanatics on social media.

No rebounding, no urgency on offense or defense, jacking up forced jump shots all night...definitely a formula for an upset. The veterans on this team should know better but some lessons need reminding.

That win over Louisville got Valvano the job at NC State.

The worst loss that year [85] was getting beat by a bad Cincy team in FH when Roger McClendon dropped 30+ on us. That was also our last loss.

Last loss was a beatdown against NC State.

Chuck, last name escapes me was ballin'

Man I was so ticked about the Cincy loss I forgot about NC State, lol.

I was pulling for Kansas to beat Duke, since Kansas had beat UofL twice that season.

At time, Louisville was a better program than duke.

Some bad luck in 74, 77, 83 and other years kept the Cards from so many Titles.

I still think the 77 team was one of the 5 best Cards teams in my lifetime until the late Larry Williams broke his foot.

Our last loss in the 85-86 season was at NC State. We never lost again.

The common link between the 1980 and 1986 Championship teams? Our final losses both years were to a Jim Valvano coached Iona and NC State teams.

Go Cards.
