Now middling players are opting out.

I feel sorry for the people who race to bet bowl games trying to get the best jump on a line. Learned my lesson several years ago when this stuff started happening. Upper-SEC teams who don’t make the *CFP are usually gutted from opt-outs and “injuries”. It’s working its way to the UKs of the world.

I felt very good about Iowa from the jump. A point or two won’t make a difference. We are TOAST. Iowa + OVER.

Over?
Man if you're betting the over, just give me the money. I'll make better use of it.

middling? Valentine is rated as the number 14 corner for this draft just off his tape. He could rise a lot higher via testing and the combine. There is a very good chance he's a better pro than C-Rod
Ok. CRod is middling too. Feel better?

The fact fans derided this kid on here his entire career says a lot. Barely anyone appreciated him until they found out he was actually a very good NFL prospect.

Now they're shocked he's opting out to pursue the NFL and it's back to the same criticisms. Winning sure brings out the bandwagon fans, that's for sure.

Opting out, etc is where the world is today. In a bigger bowl, these kids would've played but given the situation I see no issue.

Finally a mostly forgotten factoid is valentine got his chance for PT after bossman opted out. So ya they suck but it's also an opportunity to let some talented depth have their time as well.

How many CBs are normally drafted?

If he is the no. 13 rated CB, he probably should go, unless he thinks he could be a top 5 CB next year.
yeah I made that point in another thread, but I think round 1 and 2 corners are more lock down corner types which we play more zones and brackets in our scheme. So, if he thinks he has a shot at a round 3 grade, I can see why he is going. Last year, Seattle took a corner in round 4 and 5 and both start and are doing well.

Most bowls are just there for everyone but the players to make money off of, the only real benefit is extra practice time for returning players. If a player plans on going to the draft then he is better served getting ready for it - unless we make the playoff I will never have an issue with any player sitting the bowl game out.

opting out is not new really and honestly, the NIL money could actually result in players coming back for another year. If you are day 3 draft pick, you are probably gonna get more money via NIL than your contract would guarantee

We’ll punch a couple in. Two Iowa caucasian defensive players will be responsible for two TDs (either short-fields or defensive scores). Now we just need to dig four points out of someone’s butt. OVER!!!

I like your optimism.

Its kinda comical , our QB is a NFL 1st rounder , we had a highly rated CB .... we had Crod .. on and on .. but have a crappy season . None will play in the bowl game . Just have to laugh and wonder how long it can last
Wrong. These three players were a big part of the reason we weren't 4-8.

What are you talking about. Fans mostly cheer him. There are always somebody on crod fumbling or Levi’s int. But vast majority are behind them

Why should anyone play the bowl. Game. Hecht why even play it all

Not gonna go that far just yet. Iowa will be without their own fair share of players. Anyway, I feel like it would be a different situation had we finished 10-2 and been playing in a NYD6 bowl. This is really the first year the opting out has been an issue. By and large our better players have played the games.

You can go back the last two years and fans were always saying he was getting burnt etc. They even said it early this season.

Everyone blamed him every time his "man" caught a ball because they didn't recognize we ran mostly zone

Maybe you reqs it differently. I see a fanbase loving the D and seeing how the offense line and Levi’s had a bad year. Cosch white is praised by many

A few get on him at the vsndy game we got beat a bit in a bad loss

But to opt out bowl game for a guy who might not get drafted is goofy to many But this is the new world.

You may be good with the new way players look at bowls. But don’t be shocked wjtb fans that lose interest and reciprocate

Bowl games in reality mean little. They have nothing to do with crowning a champ, conference standings, or anything else. Have always thought there were too many bowl games. If you have a shot to get life changing money and one meaningless game injury prevents that, then that would suck. Don’t blame players not playing in the bowls, and think it’s nice to see some of the guys that will be with the team next year. Sorry a player doesn’t want to get hurt for our enjoyment

They're not fans of the program or the players if they're going to be so derisive of their abilities, and be dicks just because they're opting out. I'm no a fan of quitting on your teammates, but they're neither alone nor rejected by their teammates from what I'm hearing. It's time for the backups to step and take command of their positions.

We don't have to like it, but we could lead with maturity by example and not say they suck BECAUSE they opted out.

Cool.

So the logical question is I get the bowl game isn’t a big deal. So was last year citrus bowl really a game that mattered….it wasn’t for title

Does the UL game matter to end the season. Is 6-6 vs 7-5 matter?

Did the UGA game matter the game before that?

I guess my point is when so games matter vs not matters?

After the expansion of the CFP to 12 teams, I would imagine other bowls will quickly cease to exist. Just not enough player interest, which then lowers fan interest.
