Talented players have fled Brown since he arrived. Who thought they would want to stay on a losing program when there are options to play in programs where the expectation is winning?

We used to develop WR's pretty well. Under Neal, we havent developed much at WR or many other positions except RB. They have been one of the weakest links on the team since the former WR arrived as HC. I dont remember our WR's having the drops as bad under any other coach ever. Prather is talented and its a big loss considering Wheaton and James are also leaving. Cant say I blame them though. I wouldnt want to play for Neal either. He's one of the most boring coaches in the nation, imo.

We are essentially rebuilding as if we fired a head coach but we didn’t fire a head coach. This one is detrimental
Truly sad that we cannot rely on do msny of those recruited to have a reasonable sense of ethical loyalty and recognize that there IS more to life snd living than just THEMSELVES. Seems to me that many of these kids suffer from a total breakdown in parenting (guidance snd leadership) from those so ill equipped for the job.
And to think, we have several on this site who will find a way to twist the disorientation of the compass within the player(s) to, somehow, be the fault of the Head Coach. The NCAA decision makers also shoulder a significant amount of responsibility through their rulings that have allowed the current chaos. One cannot expect a staff to build/develop a team when the concept of TEAM does not universally reside within those brought to the school for that purpose. College athletics has deteriorated to a play for pay avocation where some are are much better equipped to meet the annual pay out than others. I do not watch Pro Football or Basketball for a number if reasons. Now that College sports is becoming indistinguishable from its Pro relatives , but without certain necessary safeguards built into the Pro version, I find watching these performances far less enjoyable. College athletics is rapidly becoming a dinosaur destined to soon be recognized only through the awards accumulated decades in the past.
Maybe we are reaching the point where the monies k to supporting the various tesms might be better used to fund a variety of academic endeavors currently underfunded or nonexistent.
Back when I first entered WVU there was a “welcoming” gathering at shich s Professor, whom I would have for a class later in my journey, made mention of classes, if not majors, that some in the audience might choose when/ if they became available. Maybe the time is now and opportunity to introduce some of what he referenced—-‘hike directing for left handed people’,
‘early morning bird calls’, and the ever popular ‘ underwater basket weaving’. All these might be better use of funds than college sports in the future.

And you think they stay if they are developed. You would be wrong. You think they stay if a new coach is hired. You would be wrong.

Did you know Prather had just signed a big NIL deal to stay at WVU? Now has turned around stabbed the school and teammates in the back. It's obvious someone stepped in and offered more. Nothing more than poaching.

Coaches are fired for poor performances. Shouldn't players be fired now if they don't meet expectations. It's obvious they're in it for the money and not an education.

That and they should have to pay their way through college since they want freedom.

If we will ever get good players to stay, we have to offer money and good coaching both. Who wants to play for a loser? Neal hasnt even put anyone in the pro's. Winning is not just fun and good for the soul, it also brings attention and recognition. Our players get neither under Neal Brown. So as much as it sucks Prather is gone, I have to say I expected to lose a lot of our more talented players. As it is now, we've lost most of our WRs. No surprises from that group. Despite having a lot of talented WR's on the roster, none of them ever get better here under Brown. It sucks and I wish we would just fire the guy.

Ask Patrick Mahomes? Played for a loser and now one of the top QB in NFL.

You expected a talented player to stay with a program that has won just 5 games in the regular season three of four years and just 6 in the other with a losing record three of the four years and overall in every category that matters?

These players are working on their future livelihood and success. It would be extremely surprising if any stay willingly.

Most of those who have jumped ship have effectively ended their playing careers. Mesidor is one of very few that have not fallen off the map. Prather will likely be a backup wherever he goes.

When you have a coach fleecing the U for $20,000,000 its rather hilarious to have someone yapping about "ethics" isn't it?

Players are looking out for themselves and their future. No one else is. Why would anyone be surprised or shocked by that?

Winning programs have players depart due to depth and not seeing the field primarily or to go to more successful top programs. Wvu is losing starters.

Our group of receivers were rather pedestrian. No speed guys. No quick-twitch guys. No Kevin Whites or Stefan Baileys or Tavon Austins or Reggie Remberts or etc. just a bunch of inconsistent guys with the dropsies who couldn’t run past anybody. It shouldn’t be hard for any coach who can put 2 and 2 together to go out and find some receivers who are more than pedestrian. Just one guy with some special skill will be an improvement.

If there has been one constant under Brown, its been that the receivers haven't been very good. None of the receivers who have transferred under Brown the past few years have made a name for themselves anywhere else.

They aren't going to, either.

These guys have just been bad. From the fumbles to the drops to the board hands bumbles for pick sixes that win ball games, this room has just flat been atrocious. Well, more like slow and mediocre, but you get the point.

If there is one place that needs to see change, and like yesterday, its the receiver corps. Maybe a new coach is on the horizon. A sudden explosion of talent is needed - all across the room.

Idiotic.!
Lay the blame at the WRs themselves. They have perpetually abandoned the team . Each year we have lost the core or entire room. Shame on such ego centric, non committed unreliable disappointments. How can you or anyone else say NB has failed to DEVELOP WRs? Can't develop someone unwilling to spend adequate time to be xdedveloped. NB is the victim here and not these snot nosed brats. You and the rest of your belly aching buddies need to apologize to NB and offer condolences for our actions and the pitiful group in whom he has placed unwarranted confidence. Cannot BUILD a team when each year the foundation is destroyed (from within).
I am truly gratified that I do not know you. Would hate to ever think I had struck up a friendship with one such as you. Good Bye. Another to the IGNORE file.

That sounds more like wishful thinking than anything else. Ive seen reports of several former Mountaineers playing elsewhere and doing alright for themselves. Pretty sad that when they are at WVU some call them greatest ever, when they leave they supposedly weren’t any good anyways. If Prather will be a backup then why would he be a starter under Brown?

Oh good lord. Neal Brown coached receivers that were catching passes just fine and turned them into the most dropped passes in all of college football year two, just like the year after having a top ten offense he turned the running game into one of the worst in all of college football. He cannot coach at this level. It doesn’t have anything to do with whether or not athletes have more ability to move around or not. Every school in the country including Ohio State and Alabama face the same thing. Some succeed and some don’t and Brown is a “don’t”. Look at JT Daniel’s- highly touted. Comes to Brown and super dud. Compare that to Greer or Genos development under the previous staffs. He just cannot coach which is why he has won just five games three of four years. Wake the f up!

Problem is that so much crap has been posted belittling NB and doing all possible to get him fired that these weakness filled players are facing in line to render him as these moronic critics portray him. Cannot BUILD when the pieces are shown to be so defective. I am also quite sick of the feference to 4 years. He has had ZERO years of stability to build upon. He inherited a nodally empty cupboard and with each step to make improvements those being relied upon have run from he skirmish. Are there really so few HS graduates now on whom one can place trust and confidence that they truly represent themselves during the recruiting period. Coaches are restricted in their number of contacts allowed, etc. so it is much easier to fool coaches into believing ey are honestly representing who and WHAT they are. Showing to not be true for a whole lot of our FORMER WRs (and secondary folks).
I agree (and have stated on this forum previously) that something needs to be done to offset the wasted monies going to the unreliable recruits. I have suggested a scheme whereby the scholarship is sort of a loan that is pain back based on their retention. Details would require some extensive work, but what we have now is foolish and insane. Add to the NCAA created MESS the fools, narrow minded, critics who have vividly displayed heir inability to deal with reality and the difference between a REASON and an EXCUSE. Maybe NB should depart. He has experienced numerous of the most unstable players one could imagine. He has also undergone such vicious sabotage from myopic critics who have a greatly distorted view of what being a fan means that he needs relief from his unfair, merciless barrage.
I hope that our critics, greatly responsible for corroding the minds of numerous unstable blowing in the wind, are satisfied that they now have the table well stacked against moderate success next year,. We AGAIN, have NO experienced receivers ready to play next year. Some will now reference the PORTAL as where wed must turn. Maybe the correct location, but we must convince good to great receivers (and others) to join us, in the face of having a coach who, without excellent assistance will not survive, and the irrational, unreasonable, hate filled dogs are no going away. In the past teams could be built over a few years. Now hat seems impossible. Teams are bought and MANY players are bank tellers without any feeling of loyalty, fortitude, an honoring their commitment. The NCAA unveiled this play for pay scheme that will soon destroy all semblance of what College Sport was and (IMO) should be. Maybe some academic should ban together and rise up against these pseudo student athletes and require decent work for decent grades. Maybe failing a lot of these purchased players who have NO interest in the student aspect might release a minor wave of sanity. IF players ibecome ineligible then what becomes of the NIL program?

Questionable on the talent.

Like I said players are leaving winning teams as well. You're just choosing to ignore it. Can't wait until they make pay taxes on it.

By the way sucky buck, NIL doesn't change a teams profits nor do they share them with players.

Neal Brown will need the best WR's in the nation to make his anemic offense look good. He cant develop players, so he will have to grab some good ones and hope they have a good season before he turns them into losers, and they transfer to Garrett Community College where they receive better coaching.

But it looks like the clown might be forced to run the spread option, which sadly will make him look better than his peabrain could ever do on its own, giving false hope that maybe we didn't hire a total dud.

We offered money. They used it to bargain elsewhere. Good coaching is in the luck of the draw. The poaching recruiting period is not over until January sometime so you might get your wish of WVU players leaving.

News for Bucky
South Carolina like all teams around the country deal with ramifications of the Transfer Portal.

TE Jaheim Bell and RB MarShawn Lloyd have both entered the Portal. Bell announced he was transferring to Florida State on Monday. Georgia will almost assuredly go after Lloyd, a running back they missed on initially in 2019.

Combined, Bell and Lloyd accounted for 1,241 yards - or roughly 27% of South Carolina’s total offense.

A year after hitting big in the Transfer Portal by snagging Rattler, the Gamecocks are on the opposite side of the equation early on in the process.

From tos - a poster going by cferrel3 posted this info:

Let's take a look at how many of our top 5 recruits from each Brown recruiting class have stuck around so far:

2019: All 5 transferred.

2020: 2 out of 5 have transferred

2021: 3 out of 5 have transferred (and another never made it on campus)

2022: 1 has already transferred.

For those counting 11 of the 20 recruits ranked in the top 5 of our recruiting classes have transferred out of the program under Neal Brown

and in a follow up post:

Not going to spend hours looking up everyone, so for now picked one school. Below is how TCU has faired since they were champs this year (remember they went through a coaching change):

2019 - 1 transferred
2020 - 1 transferred
2021 - 2 transferred
2022 - 0 transferred.

As you can see, retention matters. TCU has only lost 4 out of 20 over the last four years, and that's even with two losing records and a coaching change. This is a Brown problem

Bucky Wucky makes a few good points. Kneel Clown losses his best recruits quicker than he can sign them. Wvu isn't a destination so the impact is bigger. NIL combined with this staff's incompetence overlaid with the state's tiny impact in media and resources is killing the program. You can huff and puff all you want but wvu us firmly mediocre...at best.

There never was loyalty in the past. They were just stuck due to the rules. I lived with some football players who were in their mind "underutilized" by Nehlan. They hated it and wished they could transfer out. One of them did to a 1-AA and was an all american.

It is what it is, however these kids want to play ball and have an impact. The ones that aren't, should be allowed to transfer. Yes, the NIL as you mentioned does create a different dynamic and needs to be reeled in somehow. Not sure the answer there.

It's everywhere. My daughter is an athlete and we just went on a visit to a power 5 and every player will be getting an NIL of 10k per year minimum.

This is at least the second year players left and threw Neal under the bus on their way out. They dont like playing for him. Whatever he sells them while recruiting them, he isnt living up to once they get here. Not too mention, he is just bland, boring and lame, and cannot make a good in-game decision to save his team.

We lost 20 players to the portal last season, or was it 21? That was one of the most in the nation. This is an embarrassment to WVU football. Neal Brown needs to get his *** out of Morgantown and take his pathetic, woke, player-led fantasy with him. He is the worst coach WVU has ever had.
