Kansas State’s Markquis Nowell is incredible! Best 1-hand whipping passes to teammates in the country. Behind the back pass to open teammate.

He killed Kentucky. Now he’s trying to do the same to Michigan State, which is playing an excellent game with 9-9 free throws, 18-12 rebounding edge. But Wildcats have the Nowell edge. Nowell, Nowell, the King of IsNoFail!

5 points doesn’t look impressive, but TEN assists by halftime IS astounding. He’s a great setup man for most of Johnson’s 14 points and is the #1 reason that EVERY player who got onto the court for K-State had scored.

At 5-foot-8! He’s playing basketball the way it should be played, not Eifel Towers knocking down opponents.

If Kansas State provides the Big 12 with a third straight March Madness title then Nowell should be declared MVP of the tournament!

He’s my size, 5-8, and height, 150, but he outplays guys who outweight him by 100 pounds. Just ask Oscar of Kentucky! Nowell had 27 points and NINE assists against Kentucky.

Kansas State is only up by 5 at halftime, 43-38, because the Spartans as a gang are doing remarkably well.

But it WILL be interesting to see of Kansas State’s Mighty Mite can take his team to the national title.

Nowell is not 5'8 more like 5'6 but he is one the best guards around. Without Nowell KSU is just middle of the pack.

Michigan State had a great coach in Tom Izzo. Spartans hit 52% of their 3s, 13 of 25. And out-rebounded Kansas State, 37-31.

But Kansas State had the greatest player on the floor in Markquis Nowell, who had NINETEEN assists, the most in NCAA tournament history, scored 20 points, which means he had a hand in at least 40 points! And he’s the shortest player on the floor at 5-foot-8.

Kansas State was ahead. Nowell went out with an ankle injury. While it was being wrapped tightly, Michigan State went ahead. Nowell came in, Kansas State took the lead back. Kansas State won in overtime, 98-93, in one of the best March Madness games I’ve ever seen.

The game ended when Nowell stole the ball from Michigan State, went down and scored. He also made in-bounds pass under Kansas State basket to teammate who made the field goal shortly before that.

Nowell reminded me of how Jerry West took over the NCAA tournament except, despite Jerry’s 28 points in the title game, WVU lost by 1 point to California. Most exciting game, by far, in this March Madness.

The way Michigan State played the Spartans would have beaten ANY team left without Nowell on its roster! FIVE Michigan State players scored in double digits, including 3 who made FOUR 3s EACH! Hoggard had 25, Hauser 18, Walker 16, Akins 14, Hall 13.

But they were out-numbers by Nowell, who scored 20, set up his teams 19 times with his assists, had 3 rebounds for the hell of it even though he every player on the court for both teams was taller than him. But Nowell stood taller than any of them at the end!

Too bad this wasn’t the title game. Kansas State gives the Big 12 the first team to reach the Elite Eight.

More to come.

Reminded you of Jerry West? Talk about stretch dude. That's fantasy land.
