Beilein did his time in purgatory coaching the Cavs, why would he want to come to NU?And the new guy needs to come in and make a splash by convincing John Beilein to come coach our basketball team.
Not at this stage of his career. With everything he’s done, and at his age, I seriously doubt he’d consider it.No way he would take a job with NU’s academic restrictions
Given that we don't have any seniors on our team this season, I'm willing to see what happens next season when we have more upperclassmen before I think about joining the Fire Coach chorus.
Nance and YoungWho on this roster has improved? I see only regression.

He was fired by the Cavs for calling the players a bunch of “thugs” during tape review and later insisted he thought he called them “slugs”.And the new guy needs to come in and make a splash by convincing John Beilein to come coach our basketball team.
How about the guy down the street at Loyola?
I agree, but didn't he turn down St John's? His teams play hard and he can flat out coach. He certainly knows how to get the most out of the talent he has.
Loyola is a better job than St. Johns.I agree, but didn't he turn down St John's? His teams play hard and he can flat out coach.
St. John's is in the Big East, a conference so desirable that UConn went independent in football so that they could rejoin it.St. Johns is in Queens. Loyola is in ChiTown.

Queens is well, grubby. And since Looie Carnaseca left St. John’s has gone through coaches like poop through a goose. Without meaning any disrespect to NU, Loyola Guy may have have his eye on a higher profile spot. A seat is getting warm in Bloomington...How so?
Except for that one year his teams havn't really beaten anyone of consequence. Just not impressed. Speaking of coaches , I've been trying to remember who were assistants under O'Neill? Brian Gregory? That is an emphatic no. Why not, Willy?
Sorry but you are full of it. They are in the MVC and in the last four years, they were first twice, second once and looks like they are at the head of the class this year. This year is not out but looks like they are headed for 4th straight 20 plus win season. They are a developmental program so they will be a little up and down depending on how many of their guys are upper classment at the time and development in their roles. It took a while to get where he is as a coach but now he seems to be putting a fairly consistent product on the court. And he did take his team on that unbelievable run. Question is, can he/ his staff recruit at a BIG levelExcept for that one year his teams havn't really beaten anyone of consequence. Just not impressed. Actually the question is , can he coach in the Big Ten? He doesn't get to play against Ill. St, Bradley, SIU, No. Iowa, Valpo , Evansville, Ind. St. Missouri St. and other low to mid majors. Wonder why he hasn't received loads of offers? Could it be...Sorry but you are full of it. Brian Gregory was here for years as an assistant and then went to MSU and was there working with the guards when Mateen Cleaves was there and they won the NC. Then he went to Dayton and his teams were fun to watch. Then he went to Georgia Tech for about 5 years and more recently HC with South Florida

Can he coach? Yes. Can he recruit at this level? That is what would make him viable. He is used to recruiting 2 and 3 star guys with more limited academic requirements and developing them. Can he recruit the guys at BIG level and NU academic requirments? If he can, he would be viable. If not, next.Actually the question is , can he coach in the Big Ten? See.... I actually feel the opposite (what else is new, huh?Given that we don't have any seniors on our team this season, I'm willing to see what happens next season when we have more upperclassmen before I think about joining the Fire Coach chorus.
I didn't realize he was that old. Oh well.....Let me fix that for you...
No way would he take any job at age 68, let alone a rebuild.
I didn't realize he was that old. Oh well.....
Coaching NU basketball might be a tougher job. He'd still be a decade younger than the president ... hopefully this observation doesn't trigger a Rant Board warning.
He at minimum got us higher level recruits, got the monkey off our back regarding NCAA and a new stadium. I consider that to be a lotSee.... I actually feel the opposite (what else is new, huh?). I would like to see just what these rising seniors actually have in them by giving them a new coach who might be able to do something with them before they leave.
Collins has his strengths. He is very personable and seems like a good guy. I bet he's great with donors, the media and probably in a recruit's livingroom with their parents. And his players seem to really like him, which is important. But, I just don't think he can coach. I would really like to see what kind of senior year Nance and Kopp could have with a new coaching staff calling the shots.
Could be a lot of reasons to not take that gig. Including not wanting to leave Chicago for that location.I agree, but didn't he turn down St John's? His teams play hard and he can flat out coach.
Not certain we'd have a winning record in that conference.Actually the question is , can he coach in the Big Ten? He doesn't get to play against Ill. The same coach who took mostly under the radar recruits to our only NCAA tourney now can’t (or couldn’t ever) coach? Can’t accept that logic.See.... LUC is, as of this week, ranked. When was the last time we were ranked in February?Actually the question is , can he coach in the Big Ten? He doesn't get to play against Ill. I did a search on Sports-refrence.com, and the answer is,LUC is, as of this week, ranked. When was the last time we were ranked in February?
I'm just a fan and so can't really say anything definitively, but when the win-loss results and the eyeball test match up and they are both bad, you start to question whether he can coach. The same coach who took mostly under the radar recruits to our only NCAA tourney now can’t (or couldn’t ever) coach? Can’t accept that logic.
So you'd be ecstatic if Tom Crean became our coach? The same coach who took mostly under the radar recruits to our only NCAA tourney now can’t (or couldn’t ever) coach? Can’t accept that logic.
