Get it done, Max.1st team Allstate - his first power five offer
Pretty surprising that a first team all-stater in Illinois would not have received even one offer from any of the top 10 conferences - until NU made its offer.1st team Allstate - his first power five offer
When was the last time this happened? Nick Fruendt?Pretty surprising that a first team all-stater in Illinois would not have received even one offer from any of the top 10 conferences - until NU made its offer.
Denny’s says he’s 6-6 but he’s claiming 6-8.
A) He committed to Elon early before there was an understanding of all his possibilities.
B) The Elon coach was hired by Duke as an assistant, so the kid opened up his recruiting.
C) I'm not sure he's more than a mid-major player. But I can see him as a 12th or 13th schollie and you hope he can develop. However, you can only have so many of those guys on your roster.
Yes we had his brother Dom for a season. I think he was a walk-on? He didnt play and transferred to St. Thomas in Minnesota. Dom must like purple.Any chance this is a PWO offer and not a scholarship offer? Wasn’t his brother a PWO at NU for one season?
I think you nailed it. Right now NU doesn't have enough warm bodies to even scrimmage in practice. Most likely scenario: NU has four open scholarships, there have been no, none, zero reports of any recruits or transfers strongly interested in NU, and this kid became available so NU offered.
For this reason, and because NU has probably seen him a few times, I hope he commits.I think you nailed it. Right now NU doesn't have enough warm bodies to even scrimmage in practice.
Collins is a dead man walking through a dead program. Most likely scenario: NU has four open scholarships, there have been no, none, zero reports of any recruits or transfers strongly interested in NU, and this kid became available so NU offered.
I saw him play once against Niles West before we left for the winter. He was quite impressive but Niles West was terrible. My son and grandson saw him play several times over the winter in the big games like Glenbard West, Simeon, New Trier, etc. and tell me other than the big guy from Glenbard he was the best guy on the floor.Yes we had his brother Dom for a season. Lets go with the optimistic scenario... Nick wasn't getting much interest and committed to Elon. He then grew and improved significantly in his senior season. Only schools with open slots in their recruiting classes were able to consider him. Maybe we got lucky.
A body is better than an open roster slot at this stage, but doesn’t exactly inspire confidence that Collins is going to reel in any good players from the portal. There are like 1700 in the portal now I believe so hard to fathom he couldn’t sell one or two on NU…Most likely scenario: NU has four open scholarships, there have been no, none, zero reports of any recruits or transfers strongly interested in NU, and this kid became available so NU offered.
I presume that the elimination of the mandatory year on the bench has improved the quality of transfer players, but the portal is for role players, not stars.A body is better than an open roster slot at this stage, but doesn’t exactly inspire confidence that Collins is going to reel in any good players from the portal. Think there are 350 schools so roughly 5 kids per program transferring- only having young leave so far is good I suppose.
This might play a bigger part in the decision process than anything else especially if more Power 5 offers come along. Let's face it, NU does not have much size right now so any talented player over 6'6 is a real need.Collins is a dead man walking through a dead program.

Good programs will continue to be built through recruits identified at 15-16-17, not through the Horizon League guy choosing to bet on himself and the big time.
NU could build a tremendous 14th place team with Taylor, Turner, Audige, Swopshire, and Kreisberg. (I’m sure there are more, but, well…)
Love this line: "Hunter Johnson is a stud quarterback who figures to take every meaningful snap for the next two to three years." I think we all felt that way. This column about NU basketball from Teddy Greenstein (NU grad) is about two years old, before he left the Chicago Tribune for an online gambling company... Grrenstein didn't have a crystal ball, but you can see that he had a pretty good handle on our program, with some advice and some well-expressed concerns.
Yeah, he veered out of his lane on Hunter Johnson, but thats football versus basketball...Love this line: "Hunter Johnson is a stud quarterback who figures to take every meaningful snap for the next two to three years." I think we all felt that way.
Teddy nailed it on the lack of development.
At least I got to play Pasatiempo. The Cal Club, Olympic and SFGC. Stanford was bad and NU worseYeah, he veered out of his lane on Hunter Johnson, but thats football versus basketball...
I still can't believe how much hype there was around Hunter and how bad he looked in the opener at Stanford. I was talked into making that trip - people were so excited about the team.
not sure where your seats were, but that was the hottest I have ever been at a football game.At least I got to play Pasatiempo. The Cal Club, Olympic and SFGC. Stanford was bad and NU worse
so he may be Elon-gating his height? He decommitted from Elon on Friday and has collected offers from MAC schools UIC and ISU and New Orleans since.

This made me laugh when we have about 8 schollies in use.C) I'm not sure he's more than a mid-major player. But I can see him as a 12th or 13th schollie and you hope he can develop. However, you can only have so many of those guys on your roster.
