Opening Statement:
Hes got them playing extremely hard and they have some good young pieces that will continue to grow. Kofi dominance early was huge, we forget he is a freshman. And to take over a game on both ends was big for us. Passing out of double teams, that shows growth. And Griffin being a sophomore, he showed growth as well. Ayo does what Ayo does, he was tremendous in the first half, his defense was great.
DMonte doesnt get enough credit for his passing ability. We got some great looks with guys ready to shoot them. Kofi passing out of the post was great.
I was told it was our 5th player with 20 points in a game. To have that coming off the bench is huge for us.
He thinks ‘score a lot’ the problem has been consistency on the other end. But now we’re starting to see that and there’s that trust. He can shoot and rebound, tonight he made nice drives and passes. Hes becoming a good big ten basketball player. Alan has grown so much on the defensive end of the court. All those things are starting to fall into place with him.
I think were getting there. Its the big ten and everyone goes through a losing streak. This is the best league in the country and you gotta play every night. When you’re a little off, we’re doing things better now.
He made 6 threes in a game, you have to pay attention to that. You have to game plan around that. Kofis seeing nothing but doubles and triples. It helps when you have a guy that can make 6.
Spencer is a really good player. Its scary to think what he’d be like if he wasnt the greatest lacrosse player of all time.
How great is that. Ive said it many times. It makes you smile when you're a part of it. To see how proud our fans are of us, i get to live my dream. We sure as heck don't take it for granted.
Theres no substitute for building. Its not fun. You can grow when you have great people. We’re still very young.

It was tough to lose tonight. I thought our guys really responded from sunday. I thought the effort and thr fight was there at a really high level. ANy time they tried to seperate in the game we fought back. I thought griffin was huge for them. The x factor tonight was Griffins 6 threes. Tough loss, I think our guys have shown theyre going to keep fghting. Its frustrating cause these guys are putting worl into this. There are things we need to improve on.
I've been really proud of pete the last few weeks. We all knew hes had his struggles and it hurt his confidence. But he's doing more than he ever has off the court. He has a unique skill set. I want him to be a guy to drive the basket, shoot the ball, and score in the post. Hes in double figures 3 of our last 4 games. Im pleased with where hes at. Its not just an overnight deal where you work out a few times and it works. Its encouraging.
Losing is going to take its toll on anyone. Its human nature. You work hard and watch film and do everything thts asked. Its hard. We’re continuing to be the team we’ve been all year. This team picks itself off the mat and keep fighting. Its a relentless league. You gotta go through growing pains. We met a little bit about how we wanted to finish this thing out. Its about these guys using this experienec and making every game matter. I was proud of how we came back tonight. We could have laid down but we didnt. We fought till the end and thats all i ask of these guys.
I thought a couple times it was us. We were mixing defenses and we lost him on 2 of them. We lost him off post passes. And in dribble penetration.
Ive said this a bynch, hes never played college basketball, its an incredible thing. To average doubnle figures and play with pose. Hes played better than even i thought, because i didnt know. I knew he was going to be cocky and competitive. Hes going to take pride in these young ugys and how they grow. Hes added a ot to our program off the scenes. These guys are gonna do it, theres no doubt in my mind. Illinois did it last year, and they’re going to the tournament this year.
You just take csre of what you can control. When we won thus place was walking. We just gotta win therres no gimick we have to do our part and put out a good product. In the tournament we had the biggest fan base. It’ll take care of itself.
He wouldve been a really good player. Hes so strong and physical. I was around lacrosse a lot from the south and at duke. I knkew there were similar things that do correlate to both sports. Hes really learned anf gotten better as a player. Hes went from a whirling dervish to picking his spots. If he spent all four years doing basketball there’s no doubt in my mind he could have been a top echelon big ten guard.
Pat Spencer
It felt like that all year. Anytime we made a bucket we couldnt get back fully. Its been a consistent thing for us all year. Not being able to close out games.
We didnt have the right energy. I think coach wanted to empasize getting back to having fun. We jsut couldnt close that gap.
I love beinng around him. We’re wired about the same, really competitive guy. Hes gonna continue to grow, theres a great staff here.
Its more so trying to find that rythm again. Hes capable of having those games constitently but its just finding his place in the offense.
We’re looking to the next game. The next game is nebraska, and thats big for us. We’re gonna lock in these next few days. We know what this means for the standinfs. We wanna come out with a W.
Its a bit innate, Guys can feed off of it. Its not teaching its about my being. Being competitve my whole life. Thats just something I naturally have. Just try to set an example. We have great practiceswhere i get chippy and the energy comes up. He just wanted me to be myself and I hope that has helped the program in some way.
