NU vs Indiana 1984 & 1988

Was setting the DVR for tomorrow and noticed that BTN is airing some old school NU hoops games early tomorrow morning. Can’t say I’ve noticed these “Northwestern Basketball Classic” slots before. Figured I’d give the board a heads up in case anyone wanted to take a stroll down memory lane.

• 1988: Jeff Grose scores 18 points and Brian Schwabe has 14 in the Wildcats’ upset over 12-ranked Hoosiers.

Followed by...

• 1984: John Peterson has 14 pts and 10 reb while Art Aaron adds 13 to lead NU to a win over 17th ranked Hoosiers.

‘82, ‘84 and ‘88, all at NU, were RMK’s 3 losses to NU, I believe.

They showed the 1984 game a few months back. I was able to spot myself in the crowd behind one basket. I remember that game very well. I was uncomfortably close when Uwe Blab was shooting free throws with the students chanting, “Uwe, you’re ugly!”

Hoosier Daddy was at W-R in ‘99. We lost that game. But man was it fun.

Sadly, Esch did not beat Indiana in any of his senior years. I don’t think he ever beat them.

We hadn't ever won at the Assembly Hall until Carmody did it a couple of times against Crean after the Kelvin Sampson disaster down there depleted the team.

That’s right. That may have been the season where Ivan Peljusic had all two of our dunks.

Finally watching the 1988 game. Did I just see Midvale cheering in the student section?

That’s awesome. It’s funny, I’ve never met the guy and yet I instantly thought I recognized him. These boards are weird like that.
