I don’t know what the right number is but it sure ain’t 50.50 fouls called in the game...what are we doing here?

Someone has to step up on the defensive glass. CCC will figure it out.21 offensive rebounds and 36 free throws per espn. Hard to beat that.
They rebounded 52.5% of their missed shots. To be fair, that was only their 3rd-highest result this season, but is absolutely abysmal for us.They almost doubled our rebounding total. That will lose almost any game. Rebounding is not going to get easier in the conference schedule.
Vehemently disagree. Anything above 70% is NOT "piss poor" FT shooting, and Reid making 11 of 14 attempts is nothing to be ashamed of. Yes, it would be nice to make a few more, but it would also be nice to take a few more (UVA got to attempt 12 more FTs than we did).and piss poor FT shooting across the board (Reid included)
Yeah that's fair and I already recanted my Reid remark. Nick shot poorly at the line compared to how he was trending. I'm old school in that I feel we should make almost all of them!Vehemently disagree. Anything above 70% is NOT "piss poor" FT shooting, and Reid making 11 of 14 attempts is nothing to be ashamed of. We’re dumb on defense a lotLack of rebounding and piss poor FT shooting across the board (Reid included) were killers too. But what changed the entire flow of this game was the insane number of fouls including some crucial ones 40 feet from the basket. We were steamrolling them until those accumulated in the 2nd half.
Guys got to block outSomeone has to step up on the defensive glass. CCC will figure it out.
For a 90+% FT guy three misses at critical times is a bunchI was a bit harsh on Reids free throw shooting. He was 11/14 but it just seemed like his misses were most impactful like a front end, one to tie, etc. Given he's so good you just expect him to make them.
A lot of those calls were pretty questionableQuit fouling!!!
Agree. CCC knows what he has. This isn’t going to be a great defensive team and let’s face it, there’s not a lot of instinctive rebounding/ positioning on the team. However, this should be a very good offensive team. We are going to have to figure out the 2 spot rotation. Need one of Gelo, Green, KJ or Mullins to give us double digits each game. The rest of the positions are pretty good offensively. Just going to have to win games in different ways than we have the last couple of years.Collins seemed pretty calm on the sideline. Like he knows they'll get better from.this experience. We fans always take losses like this against good teams hard because they count in the tally at the end of the year and a good noncon sets you up for an NCAA bid. If the team cleans up these areas though that will take care of itself. We could be really good this year when it falls into place.
Actually the called a number of ticky tack fouls against us in first half as wellI will never understand what makes refs decide to call games so differently from one half to the next. 26 fouls this half with 4 minutes to go vs 18 fouls in the entire first half.
And the poor D rebounding and long dry spell right near the endIf we lose it may be becauseof all the missed free throws.
Right near the end of the game after a long droughtWhen was our last made basket?
Before Windham made the late three, we went almost eight minutes without a field goal. That also will lose almost a lot of games.Right near the end of the game after a long drought
Poor rebounding and long dry spells reminds me of Carmody. I certainly hope not a sign of things to come. And the poor D rebounding and long dry spell right near the end
I agree with the Reid comments, but my version may be a bit more critical. What I didn’t get was why we didn’t get it to Martinelli on the elbow about 100 times. He drew several fast whistles that way and neither of their bigs especially the Belgian frosh who killed us on the other end had anywhere near the quickness to guard him or Page ... Reid is so good, but he needs to get more players involved. Confident this will improve.
Reid has been much better than I thought he would be. He is fearless and that can result in a few bad shots. Teams will guard the 3 point line against us. The best way to get Green involved is inside out. Nick and Page have to kick it out a little more. It will be tough for Reid to swing it around the perimeter for open looks to Green. KJ looks lost out there too. The same applies to him, but he can actually create a little himself. KJ needs to be more aggressive starting now. Reid and AP have been revelations.I agree with the Reid comments, but my version may be a bit more critical.
Generally, so far, it's Reid's ball, but I'm wondering if the five-games-into-the-season version of Reid is not a great thing for the long-term potential of the team.
1) For me, the B10's leading scorer has not even touched the ball enough in last night's game as well as the DePaul game.
2) I'm not in love with Reid's shot selection. If he was a freshman, I could understand.
OTOH, Collins loves to have his guards shoot, shoot, shoot.
3) How often does Reid make cringe-worthy decisions?
4) With all of Reid's focus on driving the lane, there really should be more wide open catch-and-shoot opportunities from 3. Martinelli has clearly improved from 3. Singleton has proven he has a shot. And if KJ is going to be that guy, so be it. Meanwhile, Max Green is a rumor so far. He went 4-7 from 3 vs Virginia last year.
Green is clearly a bit lost, but there also needs to be 2 or 3 open catch-and-shoots in a game to get him started.
It's early, and Reid is running a new team. So hopefully, some of this gets fixed before the conference.

Actually not that bad defensively (they shot 37%) but rebounding was a whole different matter 22 O rebounds given up.Agree. CCC knows what he has. Reid’s guy was so scared of giving up a blow by that he sagged off two Page handoff screens and Reid buried both uncontested threes. If he does that and keeps attacking downhill as he is, he is bringing a game changing dimension.I agree with the Reid comments, but my version may be a bit more critical.

We continue to score very highly defensively in the KenPom, we just play at a faster tempo now and are finding a huge possession disadvantage on the glass.Actually not that bad defensively (they shot 37%) but rebounding was a whole different matter 22 O rebounds given up.
My criticism with Reid encompasses a bunch of these: he creates a ton, but there are several times a game where he hyper aggressively drives in the paint, successfully ends up with three bigs crashed to him… and then tries a hopeless shot from amongst the trees that is inevitably blocked or a bad miss. Like, you’ve SUCCEEDED, your 5-10 *** has drawn the attention of multiple defenders including all their bigs, dish it out! I think his teammates are not helping him in this regard, I can think of several situations where Reid was in the trees and everybody was just standing around watching him attempt a wild shot. You need to dribble out or find a pass.I agree with the Reid comments, but my version may be a bit more critical.

Honest he played great 80% of the time, but 4-5 possessions he wasted by not being smartHe had a ton of assists and not so many pts in the opener if I recall so he's capable of creating for others and with volume. Yesterday wasn't his best but I agree others have to be ready to catch and shoot when he penetrates. Nick missed some open wings when he went into iso mode.
This is my concern about his size as he tries to work in the paint against conference foes. He has been showing pretty good discipline and avoiding these situations, but it’s just going to get harder in the Big Ten. If Martinelli and Page can figure out how to work off each other inside, I think this offense could be very potent with Reid as the facilitator. I think Nick is part of this. He needs to be slipping behind Reid for a three or slashing nearby to cut by the defenders.
His hyper aggression really does stir our drink a lot of the time, the kid is fast and fearless, but that would be my note for improvement.
