Football is a team sport and last I checked it takes all 11 to win ball games. I think everyone knows that. It is a false hope to think Swain has no talent and they should play this season with a huge chip on their shoulder and prove any doubters wrong. In my opinion this Swain team has more overall talent than we have had the last several years. I’m personally proud of all of them and I want to see this team succeed this season.

I agree with you. Swain, Murphy and Robbinsville all have reason to be confident. I look forward to watching all 3 against non-conference schedule.

I've said all along that Murphy graduated too much talent to be at the same level they were at last year. A new, sophomore QB/a tailback who runs soft/an undersized fullback, and a wide receiver converting to wing. To top it off, there is nothing behind those players if one goes down. That will be mitigated by a good line, but it isn't going to be enough to take down the Knights. Murphy and Swain is a toss up, but the edge to the Devils since it is in Bryson City. This is the year Murphy falls off ... 3rd place. Robbinsville Black Knights 2019 SMC Champions, bet on it.

Accurate assessment

Im not knocking Swain. What hurts Swain is all they have is Sain..I will say again if you stop Sain, you stop Swain..and you stop them bad..It was proven over and over and over last year.
If he goes down , their is Nobody else on that team even capable of scoring. HE is their everything ..I'm in Bryson 4 or 5 times a week. Every fan I've talked to is dreading the season.

Not true. Swain's QB was a 1,000yd rusher as well. As a sophomore. Swain will be good.

Dad, I don’t think anyone that knows football should discredit Swain in anyway. I think sometimes we let our dislike or happiness to see them lose cloud the facts. Swain will be good and if you overlook them you will take a L home on that Friday night. I think they will surprise some people this year. Like it or not Swain will have a say so in the SMC race this year. JMO. Go Knights

SMC overall will be very competitive this year. The only teams I don't see making a ton of noise are Rosman and Cherokee. Cherokee will probably run the same stuff since they have an AC now as HC, but I think they'll be too young to compete. I'm guessing Rosman will get away from the spread and back to the Bone which IMO is the best possible thing they could do, but the big transition will make this year a wash. Even those two teams could overachieve. The rest of the SMC including Andrews and Hayesville should be good.

Mugharbil is a big-time recruit, but you are forgetting that Mount Airy had Rivals 4-star WR Donovan Greene who had offers from ACC schools and Notre Dame.

Junior Gabe Stephens from MIC has SEC and ACC offers as well. Burris has committed to UNC.

That's true Deana, all talented athletes. With that said 247 composite (adding and averaging all the major recruiting services ESPN, Rivals, 247, Scout, etc) rankings say Mugharbil is the second highest consensus ranked 1A recruit in the last two decades. Rivals is a little lower on Mugharbil than other services. 247 has him ranked top 75 in the country and ESPN top 100.

The only other 1A kid in the last 20 years to have a consensus ranking higher than where Mugharbil is ranked right now was Johnny Frasier from Princeton in 2015. The only other consensus top 150 1A kid in the last 20 years besides Frasier and Mugharbil was EJ Abrams Ward from Thomasville in 2008.

Now all that doesn't mean a whole lot and rankings can and will change between now and spring 2021 when Mugharbil graduates, he may move up or he may move down. The bottom line is that he's a great talent with a chance to play at an elite college level, just like some of the others mentioned.

Isiah Washington will go down before it’s all said and done as one of the top recruits ever in 1a ball. The stud from Mt Airy that plays for East Surry is receiving heavy interest from Clemson , Auburn, Tennessee, Carolina , Wake, State and the list goes on.
