Devon Williams is the biggest joke of a closer ever. Boone should just stop using him. Gives up a tying home run in the bottom of the 9th to a batter with a .132 batting average. Then says he hung a change up. Well, when that is all you throw the batter is just waiting until you hang one. Simple. And Bird? lmao I voiced my reservations on him last week.

And Boone's post game comment? "We have to get better". smh Please Hal, fire his clueless *** and send Cashman with him.

Yankees fans are going to be in prime booing form when the Yankees return home. Its going to be brutal, but the Yankees deserve it.

Hey, remember the opening series of the season, when the Brewers appeared overmatched versus the Yankees and their mighty torpedo bats?

Four months later, the Brewers have the best record in MLB and the Yanks are in the process of playing themselves out of the postseason.

Nice going, guys.

This pitching staff as a whole is the main reason for all this mess. The offense scores plenty of runs to be a division leading team. The sorry starters and bullpen are killing the team. And I blame the starters as much or more than the pen. If you can't go more than 5 innings on a regular basis then why are you a "starter"?

And...the catcher, Wells....all he does is suck at the plate. I thought he was supposed to be a sorry catcher who could hit? He is a mediocre catcher who is clueless at the plate.

And....all of a sudden Volpe can't throw the ball to first without bouncing it, putting tons of pressure on the first baseman to make a play to save him.
And...Jazz seems tight at the plate and in the field, he wasn't like that a few weeks ago.

The ONLY players I have faith in at this time are Judge, Grisham, and Bellinger. Everyone else is just crap right now.

This is some frustrating BS. Sure Boone seems to coddle the players, and Cashman is responsible for the roster, but I lay it on the players. They are the ones who make all the mistakes, bad pitches, sorry at bats, etc. I hope they can get right and start winning, but I now have serious doubts.

I agree with all of that but I’d add Goldschmidt and Stanton as guys that are playing well or at least better than I expected them to play.

Yes, they have both been pretty good...especially in the field for Goldschmidt, he has saved the infielders many, many times with their weak throws.

Just atrocious.
The only thing that can save this season is firing Boone immediately and bringing in someone who will deliver a swift kick in the *** to every player on this team.

And Devin Williams has been terrible as a closer. But what makes the mystery even better is that when he was demoted and was throwing the 7th or 8th innings....he was terrific. Hey Boone! Maybe you should pull him from the closer role and let him pitch in the spots he excelled at earlier in the season!

Idiot.

lmao I told my wife last night that despite Weaver's troubles I feel better with him in the closer role than Williams.

I don’t understand why Williams is still the closer or, really, why he’s still on the team. The Yankees acquired two guys last week who could be closers, plus they have Weaver who closed at the end of last year. It’s just mind boggling.

As a former scout with the Yankees I see things that make no sense to me and have voiced them over the past many years on this thread. One thing that really bugs me is the use of the players by Boone. You need a consistent lineup, at the plate and in the field, so that players get used to each other and everything is 2nd nature. This constant changing of positions in the field and at the plate are detrimental in my mind. Put your best 9 players on the field and go. Stop with the idiot "resting" of players. That is Boone's way to make sure everyone plays and don't get mad at him or pout. Forget it. Make them earn the spot. Put the best 9 out there and go and the hell with the rest. They can fill in for injured players or pinch hit. Resting players is a joke and is killing the Yankees. Boone looks too far ahead. You have to win today. Do what it takes to win TODAY. As for pitchers and the ptich count. It's ridiculous. I can't believe how many times Boone has pulled a starter after 4 2/3 innings. The Yankees want thier ptichers throwing breaking pitches. That leads to nitpicking at the corners and a high pitch count. I see lots of issues with this team that seemed so promising months ago

Speaking of Wells, this guy was supposed to develop into some kind of stud. But it seems like a bunch of former Yankee catchers are better than him: Carlos Narvaez of the Bosox, Agustin Ramizez of the Marlins.

So Boone consistently yanks starting pitchers when they put 2 men on base in the 5th inning yet allows closers to keep pitching no matter how bad they are throwing. Williams is a joke and Hal is spineless for continuing to allow Boone to "manage" this team. He does no managing though. And The Martian has got to be the worst LF I have ever seen. I know he has limited time playing left field but he is awful on judging fly balls and he takes terrible angles.

I have not been impressed by the "Martian" at all. The only thing I notice that he is above average in is speed.

Williams should be released today, he is a head case who still has PTSD from the Alonso HR last postseason. He is done in NY.

Judge has been expanding the strike zone for several weeks now. I realize he is probably trying to make things happen but he is much more dangerous when he stays in the zone.

Volpe did look good last night....looks like someone has gotten in his ear and put some urgency in his game.

Jazz looks bad at the plate right now, swinging for the fence every pitch and complaining to the umps too much.

Stanton did get robbed by Seagar last night in the 9th. If that ball had gotten past him it may have started something.

Warren showed some guts last night, as did all the relievers except Williams.

I like Rice behind the plate much more than Wells.

Goldschmidt is a pro.

Gotta win tonight or it's gonna be bad in the NY media.

I flipped the channel briefly last night and when I flipped back David Cone said, "That's a classic case of the carpet matches the drapes." My wife said, "WHAT DID HE JUST SAY"? lol Anyone watching on YES last night and heard this can you clue me in?

I forgot to ads how the Yankees could use Eovaldi these days. Gave up on him twice.

I just had to mute the game. I just cannot stomach David Cone when he is part of a 2 man announcing team. He just cannot shut up. Constantly interjecting and mumbling useless info. He is as bad as the O's announcers.

Now when he is part of the Kay and O"Neill team, he is very funny.

Opposing teams are batting .186 off Rodon. That is the best mark in the majors. But his walks and home runs allowed are why he is 11-7. He would be 18-7 if Boone has not removed him in the fifth inning of 6 games and if the Yankees pen had not blown leads he provided.

I have always been a fan of Eovaldi dating back to when he came up with the Marlins. Kik has beat the Eovaldi drum for years but the Yanks really can't be blamed for letting him go. That was his THIRD Tommy John surgery and he was out for over a year. When you're getting to the third TJ surgery the chances of fully bouncing back are only slightly higher than his arm falling completely apart. To have pitched as long as he has now and to do so at a high level is crazy. What Eovaldi has been able to do is somewhat comparable to Thomas Davis with the Panthers. He had 3 ACLs on the same knee. Before the third one docs were talking to him about "walking normally." TD came all the way back to play at an All-Pro level which was utterly amazing.

I am officially done with this team. They have done nothing but go through the motions for 2 months now, 19-32, and then saying, "we got to play better", "we'll get it going", "there is plenty of time left", etc. NO. It's over. Stupid manager. Just keeps sending Williams in to close games. He has given up 13 runs in his last 13 innings and blown numerous saves, yet Boone keeps trotting him out there. Team playing like its stuck in quick sand just spinning their wheels. I have no hope they will even make the playoffs and even less hope of advancing if they do. They are just not a good team, lacking in so many things that make a team a champion. Yet Hal and Cashman think they are a good team capable of winning a WS. lmfao I'll keep watching, but all my hope is gone.

First off, Williams throws way too many changeups. Way too many. He’s got a great fastball that plays up even more because of the change. But he’s been consistently overthrowing the change as well which causes it being nowhere near the plate. And that is a result of pressing. He’s toast. Another example of a guy that just doesn’t have the mental fortitude for NY

The overthrowing of the change is like Britton used to be. When he overthrew it, it was bouncing at the plate. Same deal with Williams but it’s way outside with no prayer of being close enough for a batter to even think of swinging
