First inning was typical of the Yankees season. Bases loaded with no outs and they can't get a hit. Got 1 run on a walk and 1 run on a SF. And how many times do the Yankees hit into double plays to kill innings? Seems every time a runner is on first base. Boom! Double play. I like Grisham but the Yankees are not bringing him back next year. Spencer Jones is going to be the choice.

I have never been a "fire Boone guy", I tend to lay most blame at players feet. However, the players seem to just not care right now when they suck. I'm sure they do care, but they don't seem to have any sense of urgency. Yesterday was pathetic, getting shut down for the entire game by a so-so pitcher is embarrassing...almost like they have given up already. There is still time to turn this thing around, but someone needs to light a fire. I'm not sure Boone can do that. If he would show some fire like he does at the umpires on the players, he might be surprised how they react.

He made some remarks a couple of games ago implying that he does get after the team a bit in the locker room....but that it is very infrequent. That his preferred manner is to grab a guy in the locker room, put his arm around him, and take a walk away from everybody else.

The time for all of that is WELL past. We're at the stage where the whole team should be getting ripped in the dugout. On live TV. In front of the world.

I shied away from the "fire Boone" for a long time but the last couple of seasons I have been seeing the need. And especially this season. The complacency. The lackadaisical play. The complete mismanagement of the pitching staff. Everything....is just at an all time high.

This team DESPERATELY needs a change in leadership. DESPERATELY. Just a different voice.

Lakelaw, as you know I have never been a fan of Boone and I voiced my displeasure when they hired him. He needs to go and the sooner the better but I'm sure he'll be allowed to finish out the year. George would have gotten rid of most of their team by now. lol

Don't know if you remember but I posted about Boone last year after I shared a private booth with him at the UNC-dook basketball game. I posted that I had a new opinion of him after that. I did not discuss any baseball at all with him, just talked with him like I would anyone on here, we talked mainly about the basketball game. He is a very personable person and easy to talk to and likes to joke around. I can see why the players really like him, and there is your problem. Friends can't manage friends. I like Boone the person, I despise Boone the manager.

On another note I really loved the interview with Torre druing the old timers game when he talked about how analytics are a joke, that they didn't take the main thing into effect, humans. He said all the stats can be useful and are fun to play with, but you don't need them to manage, you have to go by feel and the eye test. My kind of man! He said he won 4 titles without analytics and should have won 6 in a row if not for a fluke play against Arizona and a walk off by Cleveland.

I had forgotten the Boone basketball game post but your interaction is exactly what I thought he would be. Always been known as a great guy in baseball circles and beloved by teammates

Boonie the ball player had a little grit and sandpaper in his game. Other than occasionally going at umps, that’s the one thing he never shows as the skipper. And what blows my mind is that Boonie the ball player would have gotten heated and in faces over the kind of sloppy, lackadaisical play that Boonie the manager has presided over

Impressed with Warren last night. He shows a lot of promise. First pitch strikes allowed him to get into the 7th inning, something the other starters have not been doing. I didn't agree with Boone pulling him but it worked out. Yanks finally win a well played game.

Warren was very sharp last night with the exception of the two pitches that were hit for home runs. He reminds me a little of David Cone with his power and movement.

As the guys said, it's huge when he and Judge are both in the lineup.

And last season, with both Stanton, Judge, AND Soto in the lineup, no surprise the Yanks finally broke through and made a WS appearance.

Yeah, I love the O'Neill and Girardi banter. The bit about the last game of the season and Torre let the two of them manage....things started off bad and Girardi goes "I turn to ask you a question and you were gone!"

O'Neill: "it was a bad situation so I thought I would just let you be responsible"

I always liked Girardi as a Manager. Yes, he did live and die by that damn notebook of his but he understands the game exceptionally well....and he wasn't afraid to be tough on the guys. When he was fired, I did think it was the right move as he had been there for what...around 10 years at that point? And the clubhouse needed a fresh voice.

Kinda like a certain situation right now....

I have a patient who was a long-standing member of the Yankees organization; he brought me a Yankees cap and a signed baseball a few months ago while I was out of town. I couldn't place whose signature it was so had to wait for him to come back so I could ask them. I just had the ball sitting at my desk as a reminder.

Next time I saw him and showed him the ball, he says "Oh that's A-Rod".

Pretty cool gift! I am keeping the Yankees hat by my desk. I mean it is an icon in general and I do appreciate the history.

In 2004 when my son was 7 he sent a hand written letter to A-rod at Yankee Stadium. I thought it was a waste of time but I mailed it anyway. About 2 weeks later my son got an autographed picture from A-rod, and it was a real signature, not a stamp. (Although I guess someone else could have signed it.) You talk about one happy boy, he still has that picture to this day and he is 28.

Exactly. Schlittler was dealing and should have been left in. Over managing the pitching staff is Boone's biggest fault in my opinion.

I once saw Kevin Millar get asked who were his top 5 favorite players to get on base when he was playing 1st. He said 1st was Jeter and 2nd wasn't even close. Talked about how Jeter would ask about different family members of Millar, knew their names, and would in between asking about the family members would interweave trash talk like (examples) how they were gonna kick the BoSox *** that night and graphically detailed sleeping with Millar's wife. Millar was like "I would be laughing so hard with Jeter talking that I would be afraid a ball would come to me and I wouldn't be able to see it."

If I were the hitting coach I would have everyone of the players cutting their swings down because they are all swinging for the fences on every pitch.
