NY city writers know less about Kentucky football then they do salsa, and they know nothing about salsa.

The point he made about receivers was all the more head scratching because he's at least paid enough attention to know the recruiting rankings have jumped. Major blind spot in his research, it seems. Also, he says the better recruiting has mostly paid dividends on defense. Actually UK is starting four players ranked four stars (all but one of the others are three-star) on offense and only one four-star (Rivals.com, Mike Edwards) on defense. I guess you could make the case that he's talking about Westry, Baity, etc., but I still think the offense is more talented; they're expected to carry the load for a reason. Huge swing and miss.

Not many writers, etc. outside of Kentucky and the SEC really have any kind of accurate assessment of UK this year. All they see is S Miss. record in recent years vs ours. Never mind who each team was playing. So it seems like a popular pick right now to pick S Miss over UK. The suggestion that we're weak at wideout shows how little most of these types know about this UK team. Is the front 7 on D mostly unproven? Sure. Does Barker's play remain to be seen? Sure. Are we lacking talent at receiver and RB? Uh no.

I don't believe that this will be the game to show how strong we are at WR. I think the UK offense will be able to run the middle on S. Miss and then when they run blitz we will hit them with the TE in between the zone.

First of all, it's the New York Post.

Secondly, the guy has no clue what he is saying (UK weak at WR, USM defensive thoroughbreds, etc.).

Third, it's the New York Post.

Peace

There are going to be a lot of embarrassed people at the end of the season. If they predict less than 6 wins I just ignore them. Morons will be morons!!!!

I'm just gonna throw this out there.

There's a heck of a lot of arrogance in this thread from fans of a historically mediocre football team. As in, struggled in the opener at home last year against a 4-8 SUN BELT team. Barely hung on to win. I'm not saying we will win, but expecting your team to suddenly turn into a dominant one is pretty historically ignorant.

I think that this game will be a close one...a real nail-biter. UK Fans will literally be ON THE EDGE in a tight, down to the wire 4th quarter rally that sees UK come away with the W in a final score of 47-43. Get ready for a BATTLE !!!!

This is not the same team from years past. This team will score, a lot. Our secondary is one of the better ones in the SEC. Finally, your team now has Shannon Dawson

To be fair on the criticism of our receivers. Remember how much of a let down that position has been the last 3 years? Catch the darn ball. Last year the only reliable receiver I remember was Juice.

Hopefully that changes this year.

So let me get this straight, you came onto another schools fan message board and expected to see people just heaping praise on your school? Are all people from Southern Miss this clueless?

I came on here expecting that I could have respectable conversation about our game without seeing all the haughty opinions about your unproven football team. "This is not the same team of years' past" is pretty much what every single football program is saying this time of year. What has UK football proven to act like you're "too good" to be playing this game or "too good" for it to be a close one?

We don't have to be a "dominant team" to beat Southern Miss fairly easily. Maybe it's you and your fan base that is inflating just how good YOUR team is??

Just throwing that out there.

P.S. If you're gonna be critical of UK football, especially citing last season, then you might want to look at who your OC is right now and think about what it is you're really saying. Now what were you saying about "ignorant"?

A simple "yes, we are all that clueless" would have sufficed.

Your school hired Shannon Dawson as its OC. Explain to me again who is ignorant.

If nothing else, I guess I was naive to think that there is a mutual respect in this game. Good luck in all your other games.
You act as though there's no way the cats could improve and be ready to take the next step as a program. What happens when young talent grows (and is better coached see Dawson to Gran...)? Improvement is not only expected but must happen this year.

Listen, I have seen an immense amount of respect given to your program. This could be a nail biter but, ultimately UK should be deeper and more talented at MOST positions on both sides of the ball. Does that mean the cats dominate the game? Of course not. But, do not come here and act as though you are being disrespected because thats simply not been the case ALL summer with regard to your program.

I think the main issue people are having with your posts is, like the author of the NY Post article, you are ignorant of our team and have no clue have bad Shannon Dawson was last year. If Neal Brown had still been our offensive coordinator we would have won 8 games last year...that's not even debatable.
In the ULL game all the scores were quick strike and the defense was on the field way too much. they were worn down in the second half...a lot of that could also be blamed on the strength and conditioning staff.
We no longer have Shannon Dawson and the strength and conditioning program is, by all accounts, way better this year.

ALL the debate will be over 1100pm sat nite, but to eagle, you are always welcome to speak you peace and if I were you I would be proud of my team,, the only problem is that we (UK FANS) think that more than half of our problems last year were with your new OC.. There fore Ihope for your teams sake that he has changed the things that we did not like........... As for the NYer , he doesnt have a frickin clue............

I am simply hoping that this new season shows a marked improvement from previous years in play calling, player development and coaching. No midseason collapses, no poor clock management, no putting players in inappropriate postions that place them at a disadvantage, no players taking off plays to "make a point or show dissatisfaction" with coaching decisions.

Just mold and shape this team into a high functioning offense and defense that plays every down as if it was their last. Passion and pride go a long way to help get wins when there are deficits. No excuses... GO Big Blue!

Read the posts above this again...I don't see any mad about a writer picking SM, but I do see a bunch questioning the writers statements about UKs WR and SMs defensive thoroughbreds...

Your post was pretty horrible-jumped in to talk smack, when none was being thrown your way...

I know that. You called us smu so who's the real moron? You can't even sniff satire
I never said smu or called anyone a moron or any other name. if you can't post without name calling, then maybe you shouldn't post. Not very classy from someone visiting the oppositions board. If I ever do resort to name calling I would deserve to get banned and hope I never do.
If you were referring to the "ignorant" comment, then maybe you should look up its definition. It is not derogatory or hurtful.
