Looked like it was more just to show something different rather than to really disrupt
I disagree. How many possessions did Mercy start 9 or 10 seconds into the shot clock? It was many, many of them. And Singleton was there a lot of times available to double team. I see this possibility a sea change in philosophy. By spending energy assets of his players extending pressure full court, Collins looks willing to play more players (because he has more players capable of providing good minutes!) and speed up the game. Every time Reid got the ball after a defensive rebound, Chris was waving at him to get moving. When the other guys figure out that they'd better get their butts up the court if they want to get the ball, we could be a really fun team to watch.

Clayton is a good kid, a steady hand, but if we have to rely on more than 10 minutes from him, we are in trouble.
Clayton offers almost zero offensive potential. He never has, this isn’t going to change. I’m not sure why he is getting many minutes. I appreciate that he might work hard, but I have no doubt that the walk ons work very hard as well.

Man, you guys are harsh on Clayton. What did he play, about 8 games last year and 1 this year?
I'm not being harsh on Clayton, just trying to be realistic about what he offers to the team. I have no problem with him if he is simply a backup, but in my view, he cannot be a starter and play 20 minutes when he misses every shot he takes and scores 0 points against a team like Mercyhurst.

But to think that Clayton is suddenly going to become something different than what he always has been and make three point shots is wishful thinking. Don't think he is ever going to have a good night as far as scoring is concerned.
Im not really wading into the battle over specific guys getting time right now, we have a lot of depth and more time to sort rotations out, CCC is clearly still throwing stuff at the wall. There will be a matchup component to this as the season goes on too. This definitely feels like a deeper team with more options

It’s not a KJ vs Clayton thing see my above post. KJ > Clayton at defense imo. KJ getting a feel for the game on the bench playing against second unit defenders helps create that spark. Gelo is probably the starter right now when healthy. Martinelli and Page give enough of a scoring punch in the starting lineup. Why not trust Collins in wanting an instant energy guy off the bench? It’s not like he can’t start him later in the season when someone needs a kick in the rear or just a switch up to get them out of a funk. See Berry last season.
I'm not yet convinced yet that we're going to score a lot of points this year. I know it's only the first game but Page is going to face vastly harder competition in conference and isn't going to be the scoring leader in conference - it was Mercyhurst. I hope Singleton is great but he's a freshman and if he averages 10 ppg that will be a good year. We need scoring, and especially 3 point shooting - he's gotta KJ has gotta have max minutes and your second best scorer shouldn't be a sixth man.

KJ still played the 4th most minutes and only 4 less than Nick. If CCC elects to start KJ, it puts Gelo as a sub. That might be our best line up, but we are very small if KJ starts. It is going to take sometime figuring out the line up and I expect there to be some growing pains this year. I think the second best scorer is going to be game dependent. We’ll have some frustrating games where the ball isn’t dropping, but I think CCC is going to play whoever is going out of KJ, Gelo, and Green when we are chasing points. Page will play unless he commits those silly fouls. Reid is our PG. Singleton hasn’t shot well, but you can see he does a lot of things well, he’s playing. Nick will fight the staff if he plays less minutes. A pretty good player is going to be the sixth man.

And the 7th and likely the 8th

At least we have 8+ guys that CCC can put out there and not be completely overmatched from a B1G talent perspective. That's why I'm looking forward to some increased urgency/pressing on the defensive end of the floor. I also think that Martinelli will be a much stronger player in the last four minutes of games if he doesn't have to play 35 or he first 36 minutes of each game...
