I have a 2016 Mazda CX5 which didn't make your list but is in the same category. Have had it for 2.5 years with no issues. Very happy with it.

Honda builds the best car on the planet, not an opinion. Toyota is a close second, also not an opinion. Cannot go wrong with ether and both have higher resale than anything on your list and both would run you 300K easy...Also, I personally expect a car that is only 2.5 years old to not have any issues, it's how a car performs after 100K that matters. Everything works good enough for the first few years anymore, all manufacturers have upped their game to the point most are fine initially.

My first choice was the Honda CR V. But the reviews I read said the infotainment system was pretty bad. Like a cell phone. Almost totally touchscreen with poor tactile response.

We have a 2008 Honda CRV EXL with about 105,000 miles on it...still going strong. Hoping it makes it to 200,000 miles before we consider getting a new one. It is great not having car payments. Winking

we have an older (2010) Kia Sportage which is also a 4X4. We love it and price was great and here is a big issue to look at; it doesnt have a timing belt but a timing chain. Dont ever buy a vehicle that has a timing belt.

Good luck.

Thanks. Right now the Sportage is my top choice if I buy.

I know several people with the Subaru Forester who are very happy with it. Great mileage, awesome in the snow, like driving a fishbowl for visibility. If I ever give up driving a truck I'd probably get one. Toyota Rav 4 or Honda Cr-v would be a close second for me.

My friend has a 2017 Rav4, 1 step below the highest model. I'm not a fan, really small, expensive. She loves it. More of a girl car I think.

My wife has the exact same year and model. She loves it and it is as reliable as a brick after 115,000 miles. I would just add that the seats are tiny and at 6' 220 I am uncomfortable in it. Anything over an hour and I have a back ache. I have always had Tahoes, now a Yukon Denali. We always take my car! The CRV is her commuter.

I would look heavily at the Kia Niro. You get much better gas mileage than the Sportage since it is a hybrid. Similar price range depending on options.

I've always been a Ford Truck guy, been burned a few times now. Why I'm leasing my current one, any more problems I'm jumping ship to a SUV. I work with a lot of people who have the these Suv's and they just don't have problems with them, even after 100K+ miles. I like the forester the most, but want reliability more than anything going forward in a vehicle.

Have 2 Lexus - a 2015 450h and 2017 RX350. Love them both
Used to have Lexus 350s. Traded for a Jeep Cherokee Overland edition and we'll never go back. We now have one each for my wife and son. Quieter and MUCH better ride and more creature comfort options for less money. JMHO. Know lots of people with the newer Chrysler products and they just seem to go forever with very few to zero service issues. . IF you would have told me I would be driving Chrysler products again 20 years ago I would have said you were nuts. Hondas and Toyota have great resale and are great vehicles as well and all a Lexus is is a dressed up Toyota. My experience with resale/trade in on our Lexus 350s however was not great but that was a while ago. A friend of mine who owns a service station said that most cars now are built to go 200,000 with very few problems.

I was in the same market recently. I had an 03 Pilot that was a fantastic vehicle with 125k and not a single problem. No kids so it is just my wife and I. We plan to do some major traveling the next few years until we get too old. Drove the Honda CRV and Rogue, both shorter wheel bases. Reviews on Jeep were not very good. We ended up with a Subaru Outback and love it. A longer wheelbase so a good ride, good MPG, nice electronics features, good storage. Subaru is coming out with a new larger SUV you may want to look at. Subaru has a great customer loyalty and excellent retention value.

Thanks. Although many public reviewers complain about all the Sportage's gas mileage, I am only about three miles from my train station. We hardly ever take long drives so mileage (nor cargo space) is a big issue.

We have a Jeep Liberty and will never buy a Jeep again. I would stay away from the Compass.

We have a 2016 Subaru Crosstrek, which is in the same category as those listed but less pricey than most of them. After 25,000 miles I would classify it as "like-it-but-don't-absolutely-love-it." No mechanical issues and it's great in the snow, but seems a little underpowered and the driver's seat isn't very comfortable on long drives. Good vehicle for the money, though.

One thing for sure, I'm completely sold on crossovers and hatchbacks. So many good ones to choose from now, and much more versatile and functional than a sedan without the heft of the full-size SUV.

Subaru Forester and Mazda CX5 are very good choices along with CRV and RAV4. Assuming you plan to keep for a long time. Rouge would be 5th on my list followed by Ford Escape. Escape is a good package but turbo motors going over 100K and Ford reliability in general...I would only buy new.

I would have likely gotten a Niro if there was an all-wheel-drive option. I know that sort of works against the super-high-mpg niche that Kia was after, but I wouldn't be surprised if they re-think that. Doesn't snow all that often in Denver, but often enough that if I'm going to have a crossover, I want AWD.

Have owned a Grand Cherokee and a Patriot. Fool me twice and all that stuff.

Won’t ever purchase/lease another Jeep.
We love ours but we don't buy the cheapies. Our church has a Chrysler mini van that has gone for 200,000 miles with zero problems while getting driven like a taxi cab. Lots of fast starts and stops. We had a Lexus 350 that we had to make multiple trips to Omaha for service on before it had 40K miles on it. It was a pain in the *** and noisy to drive but thousands of people loved them. Everybody's personal experience is going to be different.

Never owned one, but every time I ride in a Jeep product I feel like I'm sitting on a plastic milk crate in the back of a 1960s flatbed truck.
Laughing ....made me laugh anyway. Drive a Grand Cherokee Overland or Summit edition and it will change your mind... Even the Grand Cherokee Limited is nice but it doesn't ride like the Overland.

I think the Cherokee is the exception for Jeep, not the rule when it comes to SUVs.

Jeep does make a couple of nice vehicles. But their entry level stuff is still overpriced and I would never own one. The people I know who have had problems and the reviews are horrible for a couple of these things.

We have a Honda Pilot that is a couple years old now, bought it new. We are having little things break on it. I am not happy.

We traded away a 2009 Honda Accord last year. It developed a ring problem (I think). Honda issued a recall and fix notice for Accords that were burning 2 quarts of oil every 1,000 miles. When our car's problem started, it was "only" burning 1.5 quarts every 1,000 miles, Honda said they would not fix it. I had to drive it another year to "hit" their benchmark to fix. Ridiculous.

We will not buy any more Honda's.

Subaru seems to be the state vehicle in Montana. They are everywhere and go anywhere. My son has a legacy outback with 300k on it and will probably get passed on to my daughter next year.

I am a loyal GMC guy... We totaled our Pontiac Vibe by jumping over a bull elk on the interstate and went in to buy an equinox as a replacement. We drove home a new Chevy Trax. It was cheaper, better gas mileage (34), and is AWD with better clearance than the slightly bigger equinox. So far so good!

Colorado is the same way. I lived here 15 years before I finally bought a Subaru, and was probably facing expulsion if we didn't get one soon!

Resale on Subarus is crazy high here - although that doesn't really matter to me because I tend to keep cars forever.

Co-worker has a 2017 CRV that I was a passenger in the front seat all three times I rode in it. Felt uncomfortable after a couple hours each time. I'm 6 feet and 195 lbs (before the holidays).
