All teams, including good teams, have off-days. Hopefully the USA game was an off-day. But to get back to being a consistently good program Frost and staff are going to have to find a way to make those the exception. I would hate to see us lose to CU because we had another off-day. While it won't be the end of the world, it would sting - this is a program that has had one winning season in the past 13, and one we need to/and should beat.

Then in that case the OLine will always be inexperienced. There is almost always going to be a couple of new starters. The 2020 season will be the exception

Sure they will be...for the first few games. And maybe more if they are younger guys. In this case Jurgens hasn't been able to practice nearly as much as any other OLineman. He was also held out of the Spring game if I remember correctly, so he is really behind in terms of reps.

He just needs a lot more reps in general and to feel more at ease with playing after being injured for the better part of 2 years. Don't know if he will hold up over the long haul, but it would appear that he is the most athletic of any of the centers we have.

Losing to CU, one of the worst 2 or 3 teams in the Pac12, doesn't bode well for us finishing with a winning record in the B1G.

Yeah, but when 2 of the 5 struggle like the newcomers did last week...well, we saw that it can blow up an entire offense. We'll just have some growing pains for a while with those 2 guys in there.
The returning players didn't do any better than the new players. Wisconsin had 4 new guys on their O line and they did just fine. It's a poor excuse to have crappy line play just because you have 2 new starters. It's college football, guys only have 4 years to play so I think 2 new starters is pretty typical throughout college football.

Seems to me, most of the players we play against are scholarship players.
It also occurs to me that coaches make good money in this game.
It's proven in history, bad games happen, great games happen, first games are often feel out your team games, fix the kinks games.
No one told us how good of a coach the usa coach is. No one told us that possibly changing their entire defense, possibly for this one game, and just how important this game was to usa.
If they'd won, it would have been their superbowl.
Have we forgotten? We used to have a target on our backs, always got many teams best.
The old saying, in order to be the man, you have to beat the man was applicable in this game.

Now, this game, what's changed? Other than making a young coaching staff and teams year?
Well, how about some revenge? Thats just how our guys are viewing this game. You're hearing it loud and clear from our defense, as our offense has only been quiet because they know they played poorly, and who played poorly as well. They need to earn it, and everything weve witnessed from this staff, some of the players in this offense, theyve shown they can and more.
So, go out and earn it!
GBR!!

I’d agree in most cases but we’re not exactly in Wisconsins position here. We keep going back to the drawing board while they’re in a position to fine tune something that already works up there. We don’t have the luxury of their stability right now so new guys on the line will affect us more than it would them.

Starting Oline for possibly the greatest team ever in college FB.
Dishman RS Jr. from NE
Taylor RS Soph. from TX
Graham RS Sr. from TX
Ott RS Sr. from NE
Anderson RS Jr. from NE
The guys starting on the Oline today are not significantly inferior in talent to those listed above. But they are only in the second year of a developmental system that compares to the one that was in existence for years before guys like Graham and Taylor ever played a down at NU. And keep in mind that even really good Olinemen routinely spent three years in the program before they saw significant snaps. A lot is being asked of Cam and the younger Farniok.
So yes, it's still a little like Groundhog Day wrt the Oline at NU. I suspect they'll play with more verve this Saturday. And they'll need to for the team to win in Boulder.

I don't know if many teams have guys this young stepping in to fill vacated spots though. And with Jurgens, it's more a matter of not getting that many reps between spring and fall camp. I hope he got a ton of reps this week, because he needs to improve substantially very quickly.

Putting two guys, or three, side by side in their first ever game as rsfrosh is tough to pull off, especially at center, and especially under the circumstances with Cam and his injuries.
Having your qb playing his worst game ever doesnt help, add in a rb who doesnt have the feel for the team quite yet, and yes, theres going to be problems. Period.
All are fixable, most ,as in AM will come quickly, with snaps, it'll get better, as it all will with repetition.

Want to add another thing on this thread. Not sure how many saw Shatel's article this morning about the 94 Pipeline. I did. For those complaining about Saturday's O-Line play, and expectations that we all have, including myself. You guys obviously all probably know this, and not trying to beat a dead horse here. But, those boys were basically together for 4-5 years. Husker Power for 4-5 years, developing 4-5 years, all of it, 4-5 years. Half of our O-Line have basically only made one start. I guess I hadn't really considered that either. But, that's reality. They are just young and inexperienced. Some are not. But basically half the O-Line only has a game of starting experience and really only one full year of Husker Power. I understand we're all die hard fans and want the pipeline back badly, but we gotta be real about the situation too. For the record, I still believe this is a 9-10 win team based on what we've seen the offense be able to do with average at best O-Line play, but it's probably going to be a grind.

Since this is a good point, maybe the O-Line needs to hang out together 24 hours a day and do some extra work so they can get to know each player's play style and become brothers in arms, as in how '94 did it.

1) You're going to get Rob Zatechka pissed off.
2) Dishman was a monster.
