1. CONTAIN JACKSON!!!!!!

I know this has nothing to do with the offense, but if we can't keep him from running all over us, our offense will have to score TD's EVERY possession.

If we try to rely on the Wildcat formation we're dead in the water. While I don't believe Louisvilles defense is the steel curtain they're certainly good enough to figure out the running back isn't handing off or throwing it. We've gotta make some plays in the passing game to keep the Louisville defense from stacking the line all night long.

Would be a good time to give it to the WR in motion out of the Wildcat since UL probably wouldn't be expecting it.

I think Gran has done a great job this season, but I also don't understand his infatuation with the wildcat. I'm alright with it in short yardage situations, but outside of that I think it's better to have Johnson back there just so there's a threat of him keeping it on a read option or throwing a play action pass.

The wildcat isn't the same play over and over. If you look you will see that the blocking schemes are different on a lot of plays. They run a version of the counter trey that works well with two lineman pulling. They also do a 0 trap that works well up the middle. Just lining up 8 in the box isn't the cure all defense for the wildcat.
Heck, Saturday Austin Peay put 9 in the box and we scored out of the wildcat. I know it was Peay but still.

Exactly, people act like the wildcat is the same play over and over again. Still, I'd like to see us be more creative in the redzone. We only seem to throw it on 3rd and 5 or longer.

Flipped it to Baker vs AP and he did the common Baker thing...dropped it.
And also got us a Unsport Conduct penalty that removed any chance of going for it on 4th and short early in the game. Kid has got to have the record for stupid 15 yard penalties in UK history. He would even stand out at UL for this, and that tales a special player.

Houston showed how deadly swing passes out of the backfield are against UL. I expect Honest Bob to make an adjustment, and the UL players to over-react to them. Would open up the TE underneath it all.
Also liked how Houston forced Jackson's hand on the read. I would repeat that.

Pretty much. You have to keep Jackson off the field as much as possible. You aren't going to stop Lamar Jackson. We couldn't stop Dobbs, who is Jackson light, so let's not entertain any thoughts of stopping Jackson. You just want to keep it close and hope the fumble problems UL has had the past couple games continue to plague them.

End of the day, I think realistically it's UL 49 UK 17

I agree for the most part. Like the wildcat now and then and on short yardage but think we're more effective running with Johnson back there on first and second downs in longer yardage situations. I'd like to see Johnson keep it a few more times.

That said I think one reason Gran uses the wildcat more is he's nervous about Johnson carrying more and fumbling so he goes safe more than he normally would

As far as game plan, ball control for sure. Open with two tight ends plus Jacob Hyde and Matt Elam in the pistol formation in front of Benny taking the wildcat just to send a message of our intent. Second down bring Matt on a jet sweep to add a diversion. Just be a few steps from the pistol formation so I think he could make it.

Better start driving on Monday, it's about a 2,000 mile drive one way.

Too much for me, bit I never missed one MINUTE of any UK football game while I was going there, not even a minute of the 72-0 beating of Tennessee by the freshman team.

Run the Wildcat a lot and pound UL up the middle with Snell and Boom all game long. Use Conrad on some short passes.

Start having Snell or someone throw the ball out of the Wildcat with trick plays to mix it up?

I still don't think UL can stop our running game.

I'd pop the D with some PA pass/waggles/boots on early downs to keep them honest and open things up for Benny n Boom.

I'm not saying we need to go "air raid", but if we can move the chains early with some passing it will go a long way in helping our ground game.

I realize that but its not hard to key on the runningback / QB in this case. Georgia did it and Austin Peay was crushing our running lanes until Johnson came in and proved capable of completing a pass.

Soupbean . . . , let me get this straight: you suggest bringing Matt ELAM on a jet sweep, as a diversion . . . . wouldn't that be a Jumbo Jet Sweep?

Seriously, though, I kinda' like it! You could just see every Louisville defender, watching the big man as he approached the snap/QB, and saying to themselves, internally, "you gotta' be kiddin' me," and then getting plowed by Bennie Snell.

That would be a sight wouldn't it if he started out wide. I can see Benny going . . . hold on fellas . . . be right with you (takes a smoke break). . . almost there . . . and HIKE!

Once we get to the red zone we have to be a little more creative and show some different looks.Be willing to throw the ball on 1st down and run somewhere other than the middle and in something other than the wildcat formation.

Good post Doc, RIGHT ON!

You realize that Tennessee is 98th in Total Defense and 116th in rushing defense...Louisville is 8th in Total Defense and 6th in Rushing Defense...as a Louisville guy I hope we dont have Tennessee type defenders...

Dang jauk...where you live bro??

Lived in Vegas from 66 to 2002, about 60 miles west of there since 2002. Only 149,999 people when I got there, ten times that now, it was a pretty wild place then. Every time I go there now I see about 100 reasons I don't like living there now, most of them cars stopped in front of me. My daughter's family still lives there, she and the two grandsons flew back to Kentucky with me for our last (50th) family reunion this summer, they all loved Cumberland Falls and the area. Still miss it myself.

Ball control, eat clock, finish in red zone.

This may not be popular, but if I were planning I would use Snell early and often and use White to give him a little breather. I would play action to the TE and throw some occasional deep routes. UK has to get Louisville's defense tired by forcing them to defend alot of plays. Last series before half, I would come in with a fresh Boom and hope he could pop through for a TD. Same plan to start the third quarter and finish the game with alot of Boom against a tired and step slower Louisville defense.
Of course UK needs to score TD's and not FGs, UK's defense hasn't shown the speed Houston's did to contain Jackson, UK needs long 10+ play drives to keep him off the field and Louisville's defense on the field. I am afraid Jackson has the possibility of a huge game running the ball so UK has to keep pace to take advantage of a tired D in the 4th, get behind by a couple of scores early and have to throw could get ugly.

I realize that Louisville has played crappy teams this year so their stats are not reliable.
