My random thoughts…
  • Only officiating call that I took issue with was overturning the fumble…think there was a good chance it was an incomplete pass, but just not enough there to overturn it.
  • Incomplete pass and interception seemed pretty obvious and thought they were the right call…same with their fumble (thankfully they called it a TD and not a fumble OOB at the 1, as that would have been tough to overturn).
  • Thought that Drew played a solid game and is getting unwarranted criticism. He did more with his legs than I was expecting, and has really developed a nice feel for sliding around in the pocket.
  • Don’t get why we don’t take advantage of Warren’s size mismatch in the red zone. The jump ball that was intercepted is the play I’d want run for him.
  • Receivers just struggled getting separation all day…also too many spots with two receivers in the same area. Assume some of those had to be mental mistakes, as they’d make no sense as route concepts.
  • Two awful personal fouls. Can’t do that against a great team…but not surprising since we see it too often against other opponents too.
  • Another solid day for Barker. Yesterday was the first time I noticed he was a freshman, and it made me happy.

On overturning the fumble, one thing that was not mentioned. The tOSU wide reciver "bobbled" the ball because he was switching hands. That's much more of a fumble situation. But I did not think the camera work was that good. It was tough to see some of the replays.

The college game today needs a mobile QB to put pressure on the defense. Allar was not healthy enough for the OSU game.
I actually thought he moved really well. Stepped up in the pocket to buy time, and tucked it and ran when he needed to.

But agree generally w/your post.

I agree with all of that except for the Allar point. He is pedestrian at best, not a difference maker, and hasn't lived up to his 5-star billing. He almost never throws guys open, and rarely hits people in stride. Most deep balls are underthrown. Yesterday on the catch that wasn't, if he hits the receiver in stride it's a huge play and possibly even a TD. Instead, he threw it a foot off the ground and even if complete would have been far less of a gain than it should have been. Doing more with his legs is all well and good but his alleged strength is his arm -- and just look at his stats from his two OSU and one Michigan game. He comes up small in big games. To be fair, I think much of that can be laid at Franklin's feet. He puckers up in big games as shown by his record (and that absurd series inside the 5), and he seems to drill into Allar's head to avoid turnovers at all costs. Yes, turnovers are bad but if you never throw into tight windows and never take shots down the field and never give your teammates a chance to make a play, then who needs a guy with a cannon who hypothetically can throw the ball 65 yards? The risk-reward calculus is tilted way too far to the "take no risks" side of the ledger . . .

He ran the ball well in the first half, not sure he ran at all in the second half. He coulda / shoulda walked in for a TD down on the goal line!

All 3 times he handed off he could have walked in for the TD had he kept the ball. I swear Franklin wanted 13 to score there like he owed him something.

This won’t sound right but i think I’ve seen this movie before. Years ago, I thought Joe was scared of Bear and was intimidated when playing Bama. Didn’t matter if Bama was better, the same, or worse than Penn St.

I think it’s a bit of the same with Franklin and Ohio St. They have lost some head scratchers and lost leads late when they needed to step on their throats. Maybe it’s their talent or maybe it’s just giving them too much respect, but you can’t tell me that there isn’t some psychological warfare being won by Ohio St.

This year looked like their best chance to beat them. I’d be chomping at the bit to see them again.

I noticed that too on the replay. Was hoping that would be enough to sustain the call on the field.

Agree that Allar is often not sufficiently accurate in big games. Saw the same thing on the dropped pass to Wallace. Lofted the earlier pass to Clifford too high which allowed defense to recover (and commit uncalled DPI). Generally puts way too much air under deep balls. Seemed like Pribula was willing to thrown into tight windows vs. Wisky, but not sure that would have worked for him vs. OSU.

At first I thought the 4th down pass to Dinkins was too high and hard for him to get his hands up. Then later I saw the OSU defender had his arms wrapped around Dinkins' waist while ball was in the air. That might have hindered him from getting his hands up.
