I can never figure out, what's so hard about standing on the 10-yard line and if the punts over your head, let it go.
The only thing I can think of is that punters are now kicking the ball with backspin in the center of the field, rather than going for the old coffin corner kick out of bounds. Punters used to kick a ball with overspin that rolled forward back in the day. So a punt is now more likely to stay in the field of play than it used to be. But I do agree with you that way too many PR's field the ball inside the 10 yard line.

Question for the brain trust:

As a fellow b1g member, is iu’s NATTY. o_O good for Penn State?

😞
I don't think it matters much, Bob. My guess is Indiana will fall to mediocrity and Penn State will soon return to the Penn State we've known.

The Miami Bills have lost the NC in brutal fashion at least three times now:

Penn State 1987
OSU 2003
IU 2026

Almost like they have bad karma or something.
You must have missed their 92 appearance where Bama kicked their asses all over the field. That was brutal fashion - complete domination.

I think yes, It is now crystal clear that the SEC is a weaker conference than the B10, Not only have they failed to compete in the CFP championship three years running, they also got smoked in the head to head. It would have been hilarious to have seen an ACC team win it all, but this too will come.

Money is the great equalizer.

ESPN trying to shill for the SEC will become more and more challenging.

You're right about the money. Also, I think that we're seeing that if you get a lot of these SEC "heavyweights" out of their comfort zone, meaning playing outside of their geographic region, they become much less intimidating; their overly passionate crowds account for a lot when they play home games.

Two interesting post game tidbits-

Funny, I heard that Cignetti said he knew exactly what defense they were going to be in. So, both coaches knew what the other was going to do, but the play not only got a 1st down, but a TD. Wonder which is the better coaching staff?

The SEC used to be able to stockpile talent. Now they cannot; in fact, nobody can. The days when Georgia was three deep in every position with 5* cannot be replicated.

At least we found out that Miami retained its stature from the 1987 Fiesta Bowl. They are a gang of illiterate thugs with a coach who is a egotistical a$$hole. They can be beaten by a disciplined, well coached, intelligent team. There are a lot of similarities between the 2026 Indiana team and the 1987 Penn State team.

Notre Dame got absolutely screwed by the CFP SEC-lection Committee both in the last week of the regular season and a second time in the final CFP SEC-lection Committee Rankings.... Bama didn't deserve to be anywhere near the Prollegiate playoffs.

ND was a much better team than either Bama or Oklahoma, as was Texas, but I'm glad that they got left out after how arrogant their head coach acted during the Orange Bowl last season.

1987 Penn State and 2026 are nothing alike except for coaching.

While watching ESPN on the treadmill this morning, I kept thinking of how close we were to “The new champions, Indiana, had a near-perfect record, with their only loss coming to Penn State.”

I am rotten glad this season is over.

Actually I didn’t have a problem with it. The non-calls were pathetic and far better to complain about calls when you are up 10-0 rather than losing. And I don’t like Cignetti one bit.
It’s like the kid claiming to be the toughest on the playground then saying the other guy was fighting dirty.

Obviously, after three NC’s in a row, the talking heads will loudly state the Big is the best conference like they always did when the SEC was winning…oh wait, never mind, that won’t happen.

I don’t see Cristobal as an “egotistical a$$hole”. What did I miss?

No it was when Miami punted to IU in the 1st qtr, and the PR called a fair catch and fielded it at the 5 yd line. I'd take my chances of it going in the endzone.
+1. Maybe different staffs teach it differently but our guys did it a lot too and it drove me crazy.

Buy a title? Did coaching have anything to do with it? Did you ever think Mendoza was going to win the Heisman and be the player he is? He is so good because of how Cignetti developed him. indiana earned that title. Give credit where credit is due and stop being so childish.
I guarantee you he and almost every other person on this board had no idea who Mendoza was last year. I thought he did pretty well at Cal, but would never have put him as a Heisman candidate. Cignetti turned him into a great college QB just like he improved Rourke last season.

I gave them credit. Everyone is spending money to try to buy a title and Indiana has a ton of it because of Cuban (did you see him celebrating yesterday?)--I'm not sure where you see this as not giving them credit. Hell, I gave him a ton of credit for even winning their first game which no one else has managed with the bye.

I watch too much football--I was well aware of who Mendoza was (he threw for like 3k last year--who didn't know who he was?) and how much Cignetti wanted him. Cignetti finds proven, older guys that fit his scheme unlike most that look for talent and think they can make them elite.
I'm not sure what you think this comment is doing.

Exactly. No one saw this coming. Indiana, Cignetti and Mendoza just turned CFB on its head. Mendoza the Heisman winner and Indiana national champs. What a great story.

You have to go back to the Georgia Tech and Colorado shared championship in 1990 and BYU in 1984 to find another "upstart" or improbable national champ.

Mario Landino, Indiana sophomore starting D-lineman, is out of the Lehigh Valley in eastern PA in PSU’s recruiting backyard. He wanted to go to PSU and never got an offer. He had a Rutgers offer, and they retracted the offer as they reached their quota of lineman. Cignetti recruited him to JMU, and when he took the Indiana job he re-offered Landino at Indiana. This kid did well as a true sophomore. Not a high star guy and definitely a late bloomer, but we missed out on a really good player in our own backyard. Here’s the article.
