Ugly game that shouldn't have even been that close. Pat with a bone head 3 attempt then giving Fland an open 3. What do they say? Shooters shoot and that's what Evans did after going 0-7. We still can't be missing our free throws like this in tight games.
Yeah, Pat had a nice game and that was a horrible shot for the big fella. Overall though he played some excellent D tonight.

ACC leading the ACC/SEC challenge 6-3. Big win by Syracuse over Tennessee. Syracuse might be decent this year. They should have beat Houston last week if not for a bunch of missed free throws.

ACC wins... Duke UNC Syracuse Miami VA Tech and Notre Dame

Losses... FSU Pitt and Wake

The good - Dukes three front court players play physical and in the post and play hard

the bad- Need more out of the bench beside Brown and need who ever plays at SF to score some while defending .

the ugly - free throws and is it me when Duke has a first good half , the opposing team always closes in quickly in the second half?
Michigan State will be another battle .

Maliq is an incredible asset to have. Not the best player I’ve seen- pretty limited in some ways but man is he one of my favorites over the past handful of years.

Maliq Brown should legit be starting. He’s clearly one of the five best players. He can guard every position on the floor. And he’s better than Sarr or Khamenia. Unless one of those steps up with consistent 3 point shooting they aren’t really that good.

The one case I see for not starting Brown is to have a spark off the bench. And rotate with the big guys. But in the clutch, the 5 we had on the court most of the last 10 minutes are the five we will need.

Given the rather shaky start from Sarr and Kham, Duke is not very deep and will have to stay out of foul trouble.

I don’t love the idea of our three big men all starting and I think Maliq is the perfect 6th man off the bench.

Sarr has for sure been underwhelming and I hope he can figure it out. I think Nik is our best bet to start at the SF position. If Sarr can figure it out and give us say 10-12 a game- this team is really good.

The biggest thing to me is Evans. He has to be more consistent and give us 15-16 a game.

Yea I’m not sure starting our only three bigs would benefit us. Brown is definitely needed on the floor 25 or so minutes but just not starting.

The Florida front court is probably the best in the country, Man U I love Haugh, he is so freaking good.

Personally, I don’t want to see these guys again.

We only played the 3 big lineup to match Florida, they were massive. It was not an efficient offensive lineup for us, I doubt we will see it much moving forward.

Sarr and Khamenia have to give us more than 0 points combined. Game seemed a bit too big for Cayden too.

Also. I understand Jon is running an offense that opens up the paint for cutters and drivers. But does anyone else find it maddening when we spend 15 seconds trying to pass it to our center who is posting up 35 feet from the basket??

Sarr is struggling on the offensive end but still playing pretty good defensively. I personally would prefer him over Khamenia for that reason unless Khamenia begjns to fill it up with his shooting. We aren’t going to start all three bigs. That lineup was done to match Florida huge front.

I know it's nice to see Cam play well, but we have to get more out of a few others. We got lucky that Florida's Lee was worse than Foster was. Evans may have shot the ball poorly, but at least he's broadened his game a little bit, and he's aggressive. I'd rather have to calm him down than beg him to do more. That kid walks into a gym ready to score.

Our two freshmen wings that we are debating over? Khamenia played 13 minutes, Sarr played 18. They combined to score 0 points. It's still early, but we need at least one of the two (preferably both) to develop some of the mentality Evans has.

Ngongba? Maybe he needs more touches down low. For a big, he passes really well.

We're going to need Sarr for his defense against MSU's Carr who's fast and can jump out the gym. Think this Saturday we're going back to the traditional look of Sarr and Nik at the SF spots. Like @DukeFromNYC33 said, we used the 3 big lineup because of Florida's big lineup and their rebounding was killing us. Sarr and Nik had nothing for Haugh which would be expected. He was borderline first rounder if he decided to go pro and has way more experience than them

I didn't get to post yet, swamped with work.

Nice win, and I for one liked that it was a close game. I agree with whoever said we would have lost that game last year. It actually had similar feel to our final game last year. We got panicky in the second half when they made a run. I also thought we made some bad plays towards the end.......Harris with ball off his leg turnover, big Pat stepping back to take that late three, Foster missing the front end in the last minute. BUT we found a way to win. Evans shot the ball horribly, but still came up huge and that shot will give him confidence moving forward. Brown was solid on D. On the road or on a neutral court, I think we lose that game, but we found a way to win. Next!

MI State is going to be a huge test. I have that marked as our only pre-ACC season loss, but if we shoot well we can win by 12.

Great Post shey!!!

It was a Good Balanced Team Win. Cameron & Ngongba led the way. Foster and Brown made key defensive stops in the final 6 seconds. Harris grabbed a couple hustle offensive rebounds. Evans hit the game winner. Coach Scheyer's in game tactics with having Evans shoot the free throws to watch his shots going in before taking the game winner. Then the final 2 plays Coach Scheyer drew up for Evans shot and Brown's defensive stop, Nicely Done!

The 1st half defense played by Duke last night was Incredible.

Duke needs to improve its defensive rebounding. Texas, Kansas, and Florida all gobbled up a lot of their misses. Also, Foster and Cameron need to improve their free throw shooting, it seems every time they step up to the free throw line, they have a conversion rate of 0-2 or 1-2, missed free throws will cost you games. Also, as some have already alluded to on here, Duke needs production from Khamenia/Sarr/Cayden/Harris, hopefully 2-4 of them will rise to the occasion.

Sidenote: I love the 2-man game Ngongba and Evans have developed this season thus far. It's like they are classmates or something?? haha

Imo Cameron is a NPOY & ACC POY Candidate, Brown can be the ACC DPOY, Evans and Ngongba are capable of being All ACC 1st or 2nd Team Selections.

The game at Michigan State will be Duke's most challenging game until the road trip to Louisville on January 6th. Hope the Blue Devils are ready to battle in a hostile environment on Saturday afternoon.

Let's Go Duke!!!!!!

Looks like Arkansas going to beat Louisville. Louisville looks like they play street ball. Bunch of one on one play and shoot a bunch of three's. The announcers said during the game that Louisville doesn't have set plays unless it's coming off a timeout or dead ball.

Edit: ACC/ SEC challenge tied at 6-6 with losses by Clemson, Louisville and BC

Edit #2: ACC loses the challenge. Only team to win tonight was Virginia who played at Texas.

Good points, but I’d prefer Maliq off the bench because worst case he and Cam both get into early foul trouble. One of the two needs to be out there at all times. They have different skill sets obviously but they’re both born leaders.
