I’m reading all these posts about the makeup of our teams. I don’t know the answer. I loved this team. Did our injuries come back to bite us? Caleb didn’t look near as good as the game before. Was his foot still sore, or did they guard him better? He took one shot, and had a costly turnover on a fast break he normally would have scored on.

What was up with Evans? He only took 6 shots in 29 minutes, and committed a costly turnover late in the game. Other than Khamenia hitting a 3 fairly late, who else scored for us other than Cam?

Our late game struggles on the big stage seem to have one thing in common, and that’s butt holes puckering. It looks like everyone prays our freshman star will lead us to victory, teammates included. And sadly, we’ve seen how that has worked out
Think we over extended him Friday vs St John's. My guess would be for him playing 10-15 minutes at most and played almost 20 minutes.

As far as Evans, think he was just gassed. On the offensive end, they gave him no room and were holding him like crazy a bunch of times which the refs didn't call. On the defensive end, he had no breaks as well against their type of constant motion offense.

Oh definitely not but he's gotta get more fired up if his guys are being taken advantage of by the refs
Been to a lot of games. I've said it on here before that Jon talks a ton with the refs during games. He's just not demonstrative about it. Maybe he needs to be a little more aggressive? I know it's a fine line. Also, that presser is the most upset I have ever seen him. Which I think bodes well for the future. He will learn from this. I have faith in him. My worry is that the media and fanbase may not give him enough time to figure it out.

0.0% chance he’s going anywhere unless it’s by his choosing

Caleb should be a 4 year guy if he stays but the teams in the final four this year and last year were led by old men. Arizona, UConn and Illinois have one freshman in their starting lineup. Duke had 3.
Arizona starts three freshman I believe . Peat, Burries and Kharchenkov.

The commentary out there right now is pretty bleak. He's getting hammered by all sides.
Die hard fan here, a Complete realist and a Jon superfan. I believe in him as the leader and head of my Duke Blue Devils. But he DESERVES to get hammered AT THIS TIME... these last two tournament loses are on him. Players play the game obviously, but the coaches manage and make adjustments to win the game. & in both games hes lacked and we have lost... 1. Never leave a time out out there. 2. Be prepared to make the correct call. If you call a timeout after the free throw you sub in Nik and Caleb, have Evans take the ball out. And you tell them, be calm, slow down, they have to foul you... but allowing them to rush and run on adrenaline was a Horrible decision... If you win, you win, but if you Lose someone has to take the blame thats sports.

At some point, the luck has to change, right?

all we can do is hope as fans Bleed. Things happen in cycles. Like pisgah said, it was not the Ending we wanted for the season, but when you look at the context of the last 3 seasons Duke remains Elite. I’m more hopeful for Duke’s future than the future of Duke’s rivals named Unc, kentucky, and kansas. Those 3 schools are in danger of becoming irrelevant in Men’s College Hoops.

I’ve always said Final 4s and National Championships are not birth rights and handed out like candy, they are Earned.

Arizona and Michigan each have only Won 1 National Championship in their basketball history.

Illinois has never Won 1.

UConn is a Blue Blood and will be attempting to Win their 7th.

Yeah, but it's the way we have lost that makes it harder to deal with. And people relishing in our pain and suffering doesn't help either. I dread going to my job tomorrow because I will be attacked with comments/questions from everywhere. It's all ****, baby blue, where I live. We should've won the title last year. Had we beaten Houston, I think we would have. Had we won last year, what happened yesterday, it would've sucked, but I wouldn't be nearly as devastated. The most painful losses of my fandom coming in my 40s weren't on my bingo card.

People calling for his job isn't deserved though.

Just remind them who the reigning regular season champ is and who won the ACCT....and who got their coach fired....UNcheat fans are insufferable....

I think we all like Jon and he’s won a TON of games. He is a bright upcoming coach but for the second year in a row, this one is squarely on him and that’s the truth. He is the one who was telling Cayden to advance when every single person knew all he needed to do was hold onto the ball.

This sucks so bad and Jon really let the program, the fans, and players down back to back years. He just did.

Kharchenkov is 19yo and played for Bayern Munich, pro in Germany...more of a Sarr than a true Freshman. Peat and Burries are true FR for sure
Kharchenkov has been playing pro ball since he was 16. He's really good... Has a big body with skill, dribbling and shooting.

All that is true; my point is that he is getting hammered from a hot-seat perspective, and I think that is ridiculous. Are we really going to fall to the subterranean depths of Kensucky and Cheater U fandom? Not saying that's you or anyone here. But the media, several in the Duke media space, are calling out a lot and coming at him harder than I think he deserves. I think this will pass over time. But if we go 2-3 more years without a title, those voices will only get louder.

I said it earlier in this thread. Our fault last year was not getting the ball into our best free throw shooters hand. This year Jon learned from that mistakes and insisted on getting it into his best free throws shooter's hand. Problem was that the best free throw shooter was in the other end of the court. I don't know how you have him there and not right near the in bounds area.

yeah that’s the ugly of sports. If people don’t like your team, they are going to talk junk when your team loses. Karma always has a way of finding people though Bleed.

im definitely no coach, but after watching the video I didn’t understand why all of Cameron, Cayden, and Evans weren’t in the backcourt. The Boozers and Evans were Duke’s Best Free Throw Shooters.

Jon is NOT GOING ANYWHERE... he is Duke basketball. There isn't even a chance he goes anywhere. But he does deserve to be criticized and analyzed of and on his failures in the big moments... Coaching K the greatest of all time was not over being criticized so neither should Jon... Learn from it and dont make the mistakes again.

Especially that we didn't even need to advance it. Should've been Cam or Evans. As big and strong as Cam is, no one is getting the ball out of his hands without fouling.

Bull, you're right. But only sometimes do these people get their comeuppance. I have seen some really crappy people live wealth-filled, happy lives. My ex is one of the worst humans to walk the planet. Liar, cheater, and a thief, and she's out there living her best life. Nothing bad ever happens to her.

There's plenty of blame to go around. We played the first half to win, the second half to not lose. Adjustments or lack of by Jon. Uconn had way too many easy buckets in the second half. Whereas, it seemed we had to work hard for every point.

What I do feel, and it's what I have constantly preached since 2017, is our **over reliance on our superstar.** Do we get so dependent on that guy, that on the Big Stages, the rest of the team become bird watchers? Even though it works great for the season in general, I feel that's a HUGE problem, especially when the pressure mounts, and it's win or the season is over. Ngongba had constant pressure on him defensively, yet how many touches did he get down low? Outside of Cam putting pressure on them, and scoring, who else did much of anything the last several minutes? Nik is the only guy I can think of. For the game, Evans took 6 shots, and when he did have the ball late, he fumbled it straight to them for an easy fast break.

I know we have a good case to make about Caleb and Pat not being 100%, but the end of games in big games seems to be a trend.

He isn't, but the talk will only intensify until he gets #6. Fair or not that's the world we live in.

I won’t dig deep into your personal life Bleed. Keep Your Head Up Brother. Focus on You and doing the things which make You the Best Version of You.

we only get 1 opportunity in this life. We have to make the most of it!

You’re right.
Not only that, but why did all three pass to the open player ? Not only Cayden. The correct strategy is to keep the clock moving with possession rather than getting FTs and stopping the clock. They each did the right thing, or tried to.

Folks saying Cayden should have held onto the ball to get fouled are 100% wrong, not to mention UC had the possession arrow.

Right, keep the ball moving and/or try to get the ball to your best free throw shooter (Evans). I would have been ok with either Boozers going to the line as well. It sucks what happened, we found a way to lose…just like last year.
