Yep. This is why posters were upset over the running game early this year while others were saying who cares since Clifford was throwing for 300 yards. You need to be able to gain 1-2 yards, especially late in the year when weather is more an issue. You may be able to get away with it against Indiana and Rutgers types early in the year- but not against the OSU/ MSU/ Michigan teams later.

53 very good at knocking QBs down once out of bounds.

It improved last season, but this season....oline, running game....nada

Get a 5 man box on the 1st down, handing off with just an average line should be 4 yards minimum. Throw/sack.

We're going to get a big dose of Michigan running game now. They have tenderize our interior line...and now ready to feast on it.

Almost every team has to have their backup QB play some snaps. Especially as a running QB, with the run an integral part of the offense, the PSU QB will be getting nicked and sometimes injured. And the play that Clifford got injured on was a pretty much normal tackle that just ended up going wrong for Clifford as he hit the ground. Not having a competent backup QB is not the result of poor line play.
