Last I checked, Vrabel is at the top level of coaching with no indication he wants to cater to teenage primadonnas. How much can you regress from going 4-21 against top opponents? Do we drop to 0-25 with someone new? Is the fear of dropping from 4-21 to 0-25 worth paralyzing ourselves over? The narrative wouldn't change from "can't win the big one". So why not do something bold?
Roll the dice. Hire someone young or outside the box. D'Anton Lynn (sp?)? Vrabel? Jeff Nixon? Bobby Ingram? Joe Brady?
We were a big boy last year. We’re a big boy this year. So Franklin is set.I’ve said many times be a big boy every 4 years or so. Play OSU 3-7 and sell out on our hot years. You see senior laden nobodies make runs all the time (Harbaugh 23) yo
wut? Don’t get it at all what u sayWe were a big boy last year. We’re a big boy this year. So Franklin is set.
My bad I meant Patricia.Last I checked, Vrabel is at the top level of coaching with no indication he wants to cater to teenage primadonnas.
At best we are headed for a first round road playoff game. I see a classic Big Game James loss in Tuscaloosa (or name an SEC road venue) coming with Allar once again crumbling at the worst moment. That's not what I said--I said it wasn't bigger than the playoff games
We lost--we're still very much alive for a playoff spot. If anything tonight put us in great shape because it was competitive.
The offensive scheme is trash--we have to fix that as we get ready for the playoff
I stayed up and watched bama TiVo. I like their qb a lot. I think he’s 15 too lolAt best we are headed for a first round road playoff game. I see a classic Big Game James loss in Tuscaloosa (or name an SEC road venue) coming with Allar once again crumbling at the worst moment.
Hmm. That’s interesting. I was shocked OSU hired him. The overall sentiment when he was the HC at the Lions was that he was a prick. Maybe that debacle humbled him?My bad I meant Patricia.
Yes, at the worst possible moment. Staring down the receiver just in case Oregon did not know where the ball was going. But we all can all be comforted that he is elite. We can also all look forward to another game losing pick.He threw into triple coverage. Let that sink in.

If we're 10-2 we're probably hosting a playoff game.At best we are headed for a first round road playoff game. I see a classic Big Game James loss in Tuscaloosa (or name an SEC road venue) coming with Allar once again crumbling at the worst moment.
So Allar lost the game on one play? It's adorable how little people actually comprehend about sports yet continue watching.Yes, at the worst possible moment. Stop cherry picking yoSo Allar lost the game on one play? It's adorable how little people actually comprehend about sports yet continue watching.
I agree. That is on Knowles. $3 million and this is what we get. Defense folded like a cheap tent when we needed them to step up. But with that, the offense lost the game in the first 3 quarters.Yes, Allar has to take the blame at the end, but the defense needed to keep oregon out of the end zone in the 1st OT. PSU had all of the momentum and was defending at the student end of the field. Didn’t make the plays.
IMO, we need a young hot shot OC HC to stabilize the constant turnover. The only goal for 3-4 years is go 9-1 vs blue hens and build a culture. Today we go 10-0 v blue hens and lots here are fine with it so why not. In what world do you think we struggle v MD if we fire big game? A in no world
Did you know the coach who smoked us last nite in 2020? A no u didn’t. Why so scared moogy. Don’t live like thatSo, laka's solution is to bring in someone else, so we can consistently lose more, because that will build a culture of winning.

Yes, of course I knew of Lanning back then. Lanning immediately came in to Oregon and matched the success of the previous regime, and then improved on it each year. He didn’t come in and have the organization take a step back for 3-4 years.Did you know the coach who smoked us last nite in 2020? A no u didn’t. Why so scared moogy. Don’t live like that
Wait, so after you’re told that your plan to hire someone to change the culture to a winning one by losing is crazy … and after you’re corrected that Lanning didn’t come to Oregon and make them lose more than they had previously (in fact, they quickly went the opposite direction), your reply is to assert that someone didn’t know who the DC of the national champions was? The DC of the national champions, who had been rumored to be up for other HC positions. And you base this assertion off … absolutely nothing.Of course you knew him . I don’t believe you.
I recently took the given advice to ignore him. Trust me - it makes reading and participating on the board much better. No more debating with a drunken fool who acts and talks like a 17 year old for attention but just comes off like a tool and a troll.Yes, of course I knew of Lanning back then. My 17 year old doesn’t talk like that. Please, don’t insult 17 yr olds.I recently took the given advice to ignore him. Trust me - it makes reading and participating on the board much better. I’m sure she’s a fine young lady and happy for you. if she sees even a touch of 1 n 2s success, you’ll be super happyMy 17 year old doesn’t talk like that. Please, don’t insult 17 yr olds.
I didn't realize the level of insult. My apologiesMy 17 year old doesn’t talk like that. Please, don’t insult 17 yr olds.
I’ll give you someone that someone else suggested a few months ago that intrigued me. Brian Hartline. I’m not sure if he would leave OSU, but he has a footprint in the B1G already with the landscape of recruiting, etc. and has been in a wildly successful program as a player and a coach. How much can you regress from going 4-21 against top opponents? Do we drop to 0-25 with someone new? Is the fear of dropping from 4-21 to 0-25 worth paralyzing ourselves over? The narrative wouldn't change from "can't win the big one". What an incredible reply. WOW!!By the team that scored the same amount of points we did in four quarters…got it.
Take it to the test board.Good god, you’re quoting Newt Gingrich. WTF? Newt is largely responsible for the political environment we have today. Slimeball.
So toss in an occasional loss to Purdue and lose all real games? Is that really that much different?Or, we make a change and end up like Nebraska.
I'm not saying "don't make a change". I am saying that it might not give the expected results.
Because while undermanned- totally Jones’s fault in recruiting, they were tough.PSU was 5-6 in 2001 but somehow managed to beat OSU.
For some reason Franklin's sphincter gets tight in these games. Seriously, what kind of offensive game plan did PSU have for 3 quarters last night? Oregon predictably stacked the LOS and forced Allar to beat them and it's as though our staff was surprised. They didn't open up the offense until we were behind by 14 points. By then the defense was gassed.
Very, very well-stated!Why would you say that about Robert Michel, which was who I quoted? He was the son of immigrants and a veteran. He ended up in Congress for over 30 years, with the last 14 as the leader of hundreds in his party.
He admitted that he'd gotten comfortable with and used to losing. As the LEADER and main constant of an organization which loses and gains new members of the team every 2 years.
Don't make this political because you don't like the new coach that came in after him.
My point (if you read the post I was replying to) was that sometimes a cultural change has to happen at the top of large organizations (see the parallel?) that are lead for over a decade (see the parallel?) by someone who lost so often that he'd apparently gotten used to it (again, parallel?).
Organizational momentum says a body at rest will stay at rest until an external force is applied to it. We've tried how many different OC's and DC's? We will have spent nearly a billion dollars upgrading facilities by the time the stadium is done. I'm told we have the highest paid staff in CFB.
There seems to be one constant.
The main difference between our team and the example I cited is that our leader hasn't yet admitted to getting used to it, whether he is or not.
So you want a 100% guarantee of success? If it were that easy, all teams would do it. Or do you think only Penn State tries to win games?I’m open to change if is a likely improvement, but that is not a guarantee. If you think there are coaches out there that would get PSU over the top without regression, I’d love to hear your list?
Better than the second worst big game record in college football history? No where to go but up!Franklin can't get where? Where does he have to be, to be "there"?
Nattys? Lanning doesn't have one. I mean, they went undefeated into the playoffs last year, and then got curbstomped. Should they be looking to run him out of town? Who cares if he beat teams in the regular season/Big Ten championship if he can't get his boys up for a playoff game?
Or, have we fixated on this "big game" thing? Would it be OK if we won 6 games v. OSU/Mich/Oregon, but lost 6 more games against the Hawkeyes, Illini, etc.?
Again, we were a play away from the Natty game last year, and we're still clearly in the playoff picture this year ... where else do we need to go?
The year ain’t over…We were a big boy last year. We’re a big boy this year. So Franklin is set.
How about 8-4?If we're 10-2 we're probably hosting a playoff game.
Have to pray Indiana is 10-2.If we're 10-2 we're probably hosting a playoff game.
Indiana's record is irrelevant. See last year.Have to pray Indiana is 10-2.
