Singleton has had higher yards per attempt thru their full careers...is that indicative of anything, or does today's game tell the bigger story? We’re four years into this RB duo era and by this point it should be apparent that Allen is the superior threat out of the backfield. Their yards per attempt today are indicative. Singleton obviously has the better speed, but the reality is that Allen reads the lanes better, is more elusive, and doesn’t as often get taken down by the first tackler. We need significant doses of both in order to slow the wear and tear on either guy, but in the biggest of moments I need to see more of Allen.
We need both. All great teams have two backs. I do think Allen is the more complete back. My only issue is Kaytron not touching the ball until halfway through the 2nd quarter. I'd fire AK for that. But in many games last year our offense moved better with Singleton….it depends on the game.
Rocking the semi-mullet too.Reynolds looking more and more like Warren.
I agree they are fine, as long as they beat one of Oregon or OSU. Unless this offense has just been asleep at the wheel, the defense is going to have to take over and win those for us. Unfortunately, those defensive games are also when I see Franklin pull out his bag of tricks like going for it inside our own 30 on 4th down and asking the defense to hold. We will see.PSU is fine. Look at these scores. Texas beat UTEP 27-10. Clemson lost to Ga Tech 24-21. Oregon beat NW 34-14. Tulane beat NW 23-3 2 weeks ago. Ohio State is up 6-0 over Ohio with 5 mins left in the half.
Was that AK's decision or Coach Drayton? Are the RB reps pkg dependent; if so, then I guess it was AK's problem. We need both. All great teams have two backs. I don't really disagree with what you wrote. Like you, I acknowledge that they are both heavily needed for the long-haul. Where I am coming from is that if we are in a critical moment of a drive when we need some yards on the ground in order to keep the offense balanced, then I trust Kaytron a little more at this point given his vision and ability to make guys miss.Singleton has had higher yards per attempt thru their full careers...is that indicative of anything, or does today's game tell the bigger story?
Personally, I like how we use them as 1A and 1B to keep both of them fresh, with the occasional packages with both of them.
When we need a yard, I still think the tush push is our best option, but think that's another area where we've stayed vanilla to keep Drew healthy, and it will be brought out more often in 2 weeks.
If their QB, Haines King can stay healthy then Georgia Tech is a dark horse in the ACC race.PSU is fine. Look at these scores. Texas beat UTEP 27-10. Clemson lost to Ga Tech 24-21. Oregon beat NW 34-14, but Tulane beat NW 23-3 two weeks ago. Ohio State is up 6-0 over Ohio with 5 mins left in the half. Georgia beat Tenn 44-41. Georgia put up 45 points against Marshall and 28 against Austin Peay, and still managed 44 against Tenn.
Yikes, firing is a little strong. Maybe constructive criticism first? We need both. All great teams have two backs. I do think Allen is the more complete back. My only issue is Kaytron not touching the ball until halfway through the 2nd quarter. I'd fire AK for that.
There is no room for progressive discipline. LolYikes, firing is a little strong. Maybe constructive criticism first?
AK IMO because Singleton was in on the first series, Allen the second--on the second we didn't run the ball once. Was that AK's decision or Coach Drayton? Are the RB reps pkg dependent; if so, then I guess it was AK's problem.
Allen is the more complete back. Nick doesn't break many tackles and is lacking in the elusiveness & vision categories.
I think CJF hit the concern @ the half: still struggling with 3rd down conversions.
That has to be fixed for this team to meet their goals.
If I had to rank B1G @ this time, I'd go
1) OSU
1a) Oregon
3) Illinois
4) PSU
I am concerned the PSU offense Is unable to consistently impose their will. Oregon & OSU are doing it and Illinois is perhaps the most physical team in the B1G.
There are a lot teams that wish they were 3-0, but we deserve better.I didn’t see the game but we are 3-0, most def gonna crush O.
Other teams are allowed to struggle, we’re the only one that has to be perfect every quarter of every game….if we don’t win every quarter 21-0, then we suck.Illinois was up 10-0 at the half against lowly Western Michigan. OSU was up 13-9 against Ohio in the 3rd quarter.
Relax.
No burst, no power, no elusiveness, no balance, no vision. Besides that he is really good.
I guess no one will draft him then. I’m sure all the NFL teams will get your opinion before they make a decision. No burst, no power, no elusiveness, no balance, no vision. Besides that he is really good.
I agree with this. The good from this game is they moved the ball better on offense in the second half. The starters on D were relentless. The offense looks competent with Allen in there…big difference. And they won’t be overconfident in two weeks! They should be pissed off on offense and hopefully it motivates them!
I dunno. Singleton got twice as many touches today, and was half as effective as Allen. I think Allen needs to be the featured back at this point, and Singleton should be used primarily as a passing target. We’re four years into this RB duo era and by this point it should be apparent that Allen is the superior threat out of the backfield. Their yards per attempt today are indicative. Oh no. How will we survive the week with your personal scouting report???I didn’t see the game but we are 3-0, most def gonna crush O.
Totally correct. Georgia “only” put up 28 points against Austin Peay last week. They just dropped 44 on Tennessee.Other teams are allowed to struggle, we’re the only one that has to be perfect every quarter of every game….if we don’t win every quarter 21-0, then we suck.
Totally right. Ludd said people think PSU has to be perfect all the time or it’s all over.Illinois was up 10-0 at the half against lowly Western Michigan. OSU was up 13-9 against Ohio in the 3rd quarter.
Relax.
I think today was a planned effort to get Nick more carries and try to get him out of his own head. Last week his vision was terrible, I thought he was a bit better today. It's very unusual, based on 3 years of precedence, for Allen not to get a touch until as late as he did today. The coaches have treated these first 3 games as an extended practice in some respects. They are intentionally working on things in a real game knowing we are going to win regardless, and are putting things on tape that they want Oregon to see, such as the unconventional formations on the 2 point conversion attempts. Was that AK's decision or Coach Drayton? Are the RB reps pkg dependent; if so, then I guess it was AK's problem.
