As for Pena ... they're using that to set up a play, or a series of plays down the road. They ran that same play at least 4 times. They're getting it on film so they can use it as a misdirect later, when they need it. He's not going to be a consistent jet sweep option, or otherwise used as a running threat ... sure, they'll pull it out when it fits the scenario, but based on Kotelnicki's history, that's the start of one of his gimmick trees. We'll likely see reverses, fakes, laterals, etc. off of that.

Pena has 5 rushes for 46 yards on the year. It's actually been an effective play. I agree, it will setup another wrinkle in the offense (or 3).

I also noticed they started switching Ross and Pena more between slot and outside. We ran a play that setup like the Jets to Pena, but ended up a Shovel to Ross. We even ran a quick screen to Pena for a 2 pt conversion. I think we see more of those vs Oregon and later. AK just didn't spam them in the OOC.

These three games were basically glorified scrimmages. In these type games, the score is meaningless. What you look for is execution. The defense looks good and ready to go. The offense however, not so much.

But the D is completely untested. The offense looks grossly overrated. Exception is Allen…but he dropped two passes on Saturday.

Let me put it this way. I wouldn't be surprised if Oregon puts 30+ points against this defense. I'd be totally gobsmacked if PSU put up 30+ against Oregon.

Singleton has had higher yards per attempt thru their full careers...is that indicative of anything, or does today's game tell the bigger story?

Personally, I like how we use them as 1A and 1B to keep both of them fresh, with the occasional packages with both of them.

When we need a yard, I still think the tush push is our best option, but think that's another area where we've stayed vanilla to keep Drew healthy, and it will be brought out more often in 2 weeks.
When you are at the game, you really see the gap widening between Allen and Singleton. KA has elite vision and ability to operate where there is little room. NS has poor vision, no elusiveness, and goes down very easy.

A shame that KA is not quicker. But nevertheless, PSU will need to lean in him if they expect to compete in real games.

I do wonder what the hell was going on on Saturday. Nick gets 19 touches to KA's 9?

It could be any number of things, but part of me thinks CJF might have gone to them and said, "Look, the simple fact is that KA's shown us more. We're going to lean on him in week-5. Nick... we're gonna give you prime touches today, see if you can get something going. See if you can show us something better than what we've seen. But right now the plan is for KA to be the guy vs Oregon, so we're not gonna use him much today."

Again, this is pure speculation. It certainly did not appear that KA was injured, though, so...

One can hope. It’s is becoming more obvious every passing game.

The potential is there for Oregon to score at least in the mid to high 20s. However, if you look at the scores of Oregon's road Big 10 games last season and their road game last week against Northwestern, especially at Wisconsin and a 1 win Purdue team last season, they weren't the same explosive team that they were at home. The PSU game also will be the first game that they’ll will have played on natural grass this season, which could have an affect on them.

My point was that their offense, even last season with a qb who had started the most games in NCAA history, wasn’t as explosive in several of their Big 10 road games, and it took them a while to shake a Northwestern team last weekend that probably won’t finish with a winning record.

Regardless, most of PSU’s starters already have played against Oregon in a big game, so they should know what to expect. Also, although it wasn’t a conference game, Oregon was demolished by OSU in the Rose Bowl last season, and needed a brain cramp by Will Howard to avoid losing to them at home.

Anyone else notice that Keon Wylie is getting more snaps at LB? Good to see him healthy.
