We have to make the tourney first. It is a real possibility we dont get to 20 wins. Take a look at the schedule, unless things change it is going to be tough
Last time we didn't make the tournament (1994-95) was because Coach K was out from coaching. I'm not too worried about this.

We'll make the tourney. I guess if you've been a Duke fan for as long as some of us on this board, you add up all the domination and subtract a couple of sub-par seasons and it really doesn't cut that deep. A lot of us here made it through 95 with flying colors, we'll make this one also. We'll still have some quality wins this season, we'll also have some games where we just can hardly bare to watch. I'll try not to get in anybody's face, so to speak, as long as we can stay away from the absolute ignorant comments like K not being a good coach, recruiter or just plain ridiculing players. For me, a 3 game skid would be a lot harder to take had we not won it all just months ago. But we did. You also have to tame your anger a bit when you peek ahead and see players like Harry Giles, Jayson Tatum and Frank Jackson waiting on the wings. I know he won't be the end all be all of saviors , but Jefferson could end up being a big boost for us if things go right. You just never know. We've lost some close one's, just need to get over that hump a bit.I will add to the vent section, sure seems to me we got hacked at the end of that game and should have been shooting free throws. Sucks. I'll be right here, pulling for them with my last breath, even if we lose every game the rest of the season. Go Duke.

I just saw where Coach K apparently blew by the handshake line of Syracuse players after the game and then stopped to yell at the head of officials for the ACC about the end game no calls on court. I can't link it for some reason from my iPad...its @247 sports on Twitter. I get he was upset about the no calls but you can't not shake hands with the opposing team...that s a mistake.

Losing stinks.

I was mad after our first 2 losses but I'm okay with last night.

Maybe I'm blind and stupid (quite possible) but I really liked the effort last night....

Thought crowd was MUCH better. I thought our boys really played their tales off as hard as they could, just didn't work out.

Thought at times we played pretty good defense, thought Grayson for the most part was sensational on his defense, looked like he was taking the game very serious. Sure he missed the last shot but sometimes you get Christian's miracle shot and sometimes you get nothing.

Marshall poured his heart into the game and I'm proud of the young man who many said was a worthless scholarship.

All I ever ask is just give your very very best and if we still lose after that, I'm alright with it. So losing stinks but our boys tried their best.

I love Duke!

I'm not that bothered by the current state of the program. I mean we are the current national champions. We have a crazy good recruiting class coming this summer.

This is a rebuilding season. I have been alive long enough (I'm only 36) to see Duke win 5 national championships. Most college fan bases would kill to see their team win just one. Whether this team ends up with double digit losses or not... I will be there supporting them all the way!

Yeah, I think K kind of set himself up for people to go after him. I watched him do it live and I knew there would be people talking about it. And there should be.

I think everyone is making more of a deal about it than what it should be! I'm sure the Duke haters love talking about it! I think Coach K was furious and was wanting an explanation for the no call. After all he and Boeheim and their families are really close so I think K meant no disrespect. I knew this issue would come up eventually

We're gonna lose some games, get Amile back in mid Feb & improve immensely. Enter tourney as 7 or 8 seed & top seeded team will not be happy. Remember UK few years back?

I agree 100%

As for te handshake thing anything can look bad of taken out of context just consider that

There's no doubt in my mind that K meant no disrespect....but that doesn't always pass for an excuse. K shouldn't have went about it that way. Those of you who know me, know I'll defend him up and down when I feel it's deserved. Last night was a little tacky, IMO.

That said, I don't feel it's the end of the world, either.

I just read an article with an interview from Jim Boeheim and in the article he said that he was told by someone that witnessed it that the reason Coach K left the handshake line before he finished shaking the rest of the Syracuse players hands was because Coach K saw some Duke students yelling at Syracuse players.

No, he made a mistake not finishing the handshakes, but his anger was driving him, he was trying to catch that ref before he got off the court. They blew that no call and k knows damn WELL we probably win that game if we get that whistle. He was mad, he's human. Go figure.
On the bright side, I don't have to kiss your keyster.

K was wrong, and I'm sure he regrets it.
But I tell ya I've got a long memory also, and I remember Boeheim flapping his jacket like an angry bird running down the court a couple of years ago when he didn't get a call at Cameron. And he continued complaining in the press conference. So, I'm not losing any sleep over it.

I just like that you can see the gears turning in our coach's eyes. You can't say that for every coach.

On another note, do you think it was Cuse's plan to force us to shoot threes off of lateral passes? As in, they gave us open threes off swing passes in the interest of preventing driving and kicking. This would prevent catching the ball facing the basket before shooting, which is the easiest way to make a shot IMO. If so, it worked beautifully. I will keep an eye on this moving forward. I wish there was a stat for that.

I legit couldn't give a rat's *** what people want to say about the handshake ordeal. Really don't care one way or the other to be perfectly honest. People can grow up and move on. He got half way down the line and then you can see his head pop up when he heard what he allegedly did. Who cares. move on.

No. This is really important. It's a matter of national security.

In the long term Ingram will benefit from playing out of position, albeit next year in the league when guys get physical with him.

And how will playing another big man help????the spacing will be terrible and Duke will have a hard time scoring....duke scores a a bunch of points based on the small line-up...guys might not be playing great but they are creating space and driving lanes.

Duke has had a chance to win all 3 games, just did not...close games even when resulting in a loss can teach valuable lessons to a young team as long as they keep their confidence and I don't think these guys will shy away from anything.

Really proud of the effort the last 3 games. These kids are giving everything they have. I salute Marshall Plumlee. To echo DukieJay, a few plays here and there and Duke is undefeated in league play. Hopefully, these lessons will help them later on this season.

, and I'm getting married in June. Don't sweat things that don't affect you personally. ....never thought I'd feel this way during a Duke loss...:)

Congrats!

Coach K is the best in the business, I am sure he is staying up late at night trying to figure something out. Our joy and agony are for our own entertainment and distraction only. They do not really matter to anything in the big scheme of things.

Or Kentucky vs Wisconsin last year. Talk about a snub! Some of the players just walked off the court and didn't shake hands with anyone. Also, the little temper tantrum one of the Harrison twins threw during the press conference after the game, so yea my point is the same as yours on that issue. Not losing any sleep over it, that's for sure!

I did an article for Duke Report on how spoiled we are as a fan base. Check it out below.

http://dukereport.com/duke-basketball/step-back-from-the-ledge-duke-fans-fhodges/

Excellent article, Skee, and right to the point. Us Duke fans are very spoiled. 5 NCAA titles...are you kidding me? Tons of Final 4's, ACC championships, etc. And we didn't have to cheat for 20 plus years to get it. Yeah, I'm proud to be a Duke fan, and will always be a Duke fan...no matter how many games we win or lose. Duke fans are so very fortunate.

Thanks ODD!

After reading some of the posts on social media sites over the past 3 losses, I knew I had to write this article. I mean it's been since 2007!! that Duke has dropped out of the top 25. All the other Blue Bloods (Kentucky, UNC,, and UCLA have dropped out of top 25 multiple times since 2007. Now Kansas... I'm not sure on.

But yeah, all the ACC Championships, Final Fours, and National Championships that Duke has won under Coach K makes us a very blessed fan base!

My take is that Coach K was pissed at his team for not finishing the game again because he is probably frustrated as hell 10 times more than we are and as successful as he has been who can blame him. I don't know if I believe Coach Jim B about his defense of Coach K looking at Duke fans who were being disrespectful. I think he's just showing respect to K. Many people get angry or mad when they suddenly can't accomplish as usual. I know I have done many things when I was mad that I wish is could take back and I feel K probably does also. Coach K hates to lose and who would like him if any different. Its not the end of our season yet, we can still regroup and who knows what can happen. What would we be saying right now if Duke would have won the last 3 games as they could have and should have? We would be saying they are pretty amazing for finding a way to win close games.

I can just about guarantee you how practices have gone this week. All things have been looked to the positive and everyone is working as hard as they have all you. The problems are clear to the whole team and staff. Everyone needs to step it up a little higher and the opportunity to earn pt is there and has been there for a while. One doesn't have to have a double/double to be effective and to contribute. I feel the game with NCSU is now indeed our most important game of the year and not only do we need to win but we must play very well just from a confidence stand point. I still believe in this team and feel players like both Jeter and Obi can be effective. They have to believe in themselves and prove it by their play on the court no matter how little it may be they both need to take advantage of it. Plumlee is just flat out playing his heart out and is setting the example for these two. I'm optimistic about Amile's return but until then others simply need to step it up and prove why they are at Duke . OFC

As someone has said this is a bump in the road. Duke has Coach K, lots of young talent that is gaining experience and a healthy Amile Jefferson coming back. The recruiting class coming in looks great. One of the the biggest positives is that MP3 is emerging as a star, something that looked remote even last year. When Jefferson returns that ascendency in his game should continue. Coach K doesn't waste disappointments.

On the one hand, I think we're 18-1 and ranked top 3 if Amile hadn't gotten hurt. I could be wrong but I think Amile would have been enough to have swayed each of those games by enough points for us to have won.

On the other hand, even with Amile hurt we shouldn't have lost these last three games. Thornton and Matt J seem to have lost some confidence. We have huge holes defensively. We seemed to lack a gameplan to combat the Syracuse zone (I was yelling to my girlfriend the whole game about how Ingram should be at the foul line making plays). And our rebounding and transition defense range from below average to awful.

But I'm hopeful. These kids are good and there's lots of potential there to turn things around this season. We need some resume wins and we'll have lots of opportunities to get those.

Eh, I think its fair that we would have dropped at least another game or two even with Amile. Its not like this team was a national contender before Amile got hurt. The main reason to be optimistic about a deep NCAA run is that I think everyone other than UNC is very beatable and the committee will never put us in UNC's bracket. And yes, unfortunately I think UNC is the best team in the country (mainly due to no one having an elite team) and could run away with it.

Still don't think UNC is a dominant team. They might be the best team, but they've lost to two unranked teams as well. And don't forget, Georgia Tech (at home), Syracuse and Florida State all led over them late in their games. UNC is just doing what Duke hasn't....they're finishing. That's also a sign of a veteran team. I have no problem labeling UNC as one of the favorites, or even the favorite. They probably are....but I don't think they're running away from the pack at all.
