Kansas and Baylor, both in Big 12, won the last two March Madnesses. Both didn’t make Sweet Sixteen.

By all national measurements, including NET, etc., Big 12 was by far toughest conference in country because it played tough, in-your-face basketball and Kansas had one of the best passing teams in America.

What showed up in March Madness was Barney Fifes with bullets in their guns thinking one-man dribbling offense was better than what got them into the Big Dance.

Purdue did the same thing: Out-muscled its away to a 1 seed, then their feet became stuck in quicksand, or so it seemed.

Big 12 a major bust with only Texas and Kansas State in Sweet Sixteen and 6 seed TCU facing 3 seed and perennial power Gonzaga.

It’s a puzzlement, even given the history of March Madness.

Only half the 1 seeds and 2 seeds are in the Sweet Sixteen field. FIVE 5 seeds or worse are in it with more games left!

My crystal ball has been shattered into a zillion shards!

OK, time to pile on the insults and nasty posts!

Pitiful performance from the Big 12. I get grief from my friends as I am very vocal about not rooting for the other teams in the conference. Perfectly fine with the other teams getting spanked. Wasn't like that with the Big East or A10

Wouldn't it be weird if Kansas and Baylor, national champs the two most recent March Madness, are not in the Sweet Sixteen but TCU, 5th in the Big 12 standings and facing Gonzaga, DID make it to the Sweet Sixteen, joining Texas and Kansas State? The worm turns . . . in both directions, I guess. TCU is up barely at halftime, but who knows? I've given up predicting. Too busy wiping the egg off my face!

The big 12 is overrated it's not that tough of a conference and anyone who has watched basketball knows that it's what you do in March that matters. Even when a conference lives up to the hype there is only 3 maybe 4 that make the sweet 16. Thinking that 4 teams from the same conference will make the final four or 6-7 making the elite 8 is stupidity to the max. Not exactly the thinking of a Pulitzer Prize sportswriter more like the thinking of a delusional homer.

A one game elimination tournament is not a way to judge strength of conference. It's really next to impossible to make any assessment due to how teams match-up against each other and the determination of an opponent to win.

Just look at mini me from KSU making jolly giant Oscar and Kentucky look silly. It's about match-ups and talent. It has nothing to do with conference affiliation.

The big 12 collectively did not meet the expectations of the blowhards in the media. There are always going to be upsets but in the big 12' nobody exceeded expectations. Ksu was the higher seed then Kentucky. Once January hits there aren't that many ooc games so you can't really judge how good a conference is either. The majority of the ooc games come in November and December when teams haven't hit their groove. The Tournament is showing that in March when it really matters that there is nothing special about the Big 12.

You stated that the tournament is about match ups and talent and it's pretty clear that the Big 12 has neither the match ups nor the talent to make noise in March. The only pile of **** was the Big 12 being this juggernaut of a conference. Jesus Christ Allen you're sounding the like the blowhard CFE.

You lack knowledge of difference between Tournament / Conference. I am not Christ nor am I CFE.

So Allen how should a conference be judged? There is very little ooc games on the schedule once January arrives. When you mentioned talent and mismatches the good teams have the talent to create mismatches and it's pretty clear that the Big 12 lacked that for the most part. The good teams also can turn it up a notch in the tourney that wasn't the Big 12 either.

Here's my take. Big 12-2 conference teams beat up on cupcakes during the preseason. Thus, the media proclaimed them "king of the hill." Then, during the conference season they beat up on each other. No conference team stood out from the others. Come post season they are competing with teams that have a real pulse and only 2 of the teams remain. Not what I would call king of the hill. But I could be wrong. Texas or KState could surprise.

It's always match-ups of one team against another. It has nothing to do with what conference one is affiliated with. Only time conference matters is when they face each other.

Pretty sure Kentucky has tons more talent than Kansas State. Pretty sure Kansas has more talent than Arkansas. I'm 100% sure Purdue is better than Fair Dick. It's a one game elimination tournament and teams get hot or cold or underestimate their opponents. There is no way to determine what conference is better than another.

Pretend all you want. Good teams still lose.

Overrated teams lose and that pretty much sums up the Big 12 this year.

Both of you make decent points over conference being strong or not. Best case to use is the eye test when attempting to compare one conference against another. It's much easier to do when looking at football than it is basketball though. If for example, the Big XII teams played multiple basketball games a piece against say, the Big East, then you could better define which conference is stronger. Unfortunately, you only have sporadic games when one conference competes against another. With the field of 68, it's a one & done scenario. It's all about matchups, and they all occur with a few days notice of who you are playing, with some days only allowing a single day to prepare. Allen mentions FDU beating Purdue. In a one and done scenario, that can certainly happen, and it did happen. If FDU were playing Purdue ten times over the next month, who believes FDU would win a majority of those games? Purdue likely wasn't preparing much for FDU, took them lightly, and took an *** whipping. Same thing has occurred multiple times within this tournament. Does anybody believe the Big East is the strongest conference, due to their performance in this year's tournament? I guess you could make the argument, but once you dive deeper into the conference as a whole, you may have to think otherwise. On the other hand, the Big XII is living high on the hog, due to recent dominance by a couple of their conference teams. Does that mean the conference as a whole is head & shoulders above the others? Who knows, but it appears they are, based on the minimum eye test available.

Hey CFE...there's no one in your family proud of your language, or anything else about you.
Well, my family disagrees with your nasty comment. 3 children, 7 grandchildren, 6 (7 in September) great-grandchildren and a wife who was the fantastic glue that held us all together with nearly all of us living within 20 miles of me and had us build a swimming pool that drew the grandchildren to our home every week of every summer. Laughter and love for hours every time we gather and about 25 of us together every Christmas Eve while I read The Night Before Christmas as I have for more than a half-century. I'm a legend as the patriarch and they make me feel richer than a billionaire! I'm living 7.5 years longer because of my fantastic family that includes a doctor, a worldwide project director, FIVE CPAs, overseer of medical marijuana dispensaries in 2 states and everyone a success in their careers because of their brilliance and ability to think outside the box. Our family individually has traveled to a combined total of more than 100 countries, too. And we love each other unconditionally. I am proud of them and they are appreciative of all I have done for them. It's an American dream come true. Would make one helluva movie.
